Places to Eat - Pubs, Restaurants and Cafés

There is an excellent range of places to eat in the area. Our visitors' books are ideal places to read recommendations from previous guests. Here is a selection of establishments in and within easy walking or driving distance of Warkworth. Please note that we have deliberately omitted opening times, as they can vary according to the season, so we have provided telephone numbers for you to check the establishment will be open when you wish to visit. We recommend making a reservation at any of the restaurants to avoid disappoint, as they are often busy all year round.

The Jackdaw

Castle Street, Warkworth. Tel: 01665 711 488

the Jackdaw Restaurant - Fine Dining in Warkworth Northumberland The Jackdaw Restaurant in Warkworth Northumberland - fine dining in this famous intimate restaurant on the Northumbrian coast The Jackdaw Restaurant in Warkworth Northumberland - Fine Dining in a beautiful coastal village

Very good quality food served in an elegant, yet homely restaurant. The owners take great pride in the quality and presentation of food and are really friendly and welcoming without being in the least intrusive. We can certainly recommend The Jackdaw, especially for a special Sunday lunch, a romantic occasion or just a lovely evening meal. They welcome children but you might find it harder with smaller children, as it has a quiet and slightly formal feel to it, which is nice for adults but kids may get itchy feet! Ring to check opening times and you usually need to book.

Topsey Turvey's

Dial Place, Warkworth. Tel: 01665 711 338

Tospey Turveys Licenced Restaurant and Cafe in Warkworth Northumberland - Pretty Coastal Village by the sea

A very popular cafe which also opens on an evening. Good quality home-cooked food with an extensive menu. Kids like it here not only because they have a reasonable kids menu but because Margaret, the owner, dresses the cafe up brilliantly at Easter, Valentines Day, Halloween and Christmas and it becomes a wonderful grotto of all things seasonal! Having said that, it's very popular with all ages and particularly the locals (which is always a good sign of course!). You'll need to book for evening meals and Sunday lunches to avoid disappointment.

Cabosse

Cabosse French Patisserie and chocolatierre in the pretty coastal village of Warkworth Northumberland

Fabulous French patisserie owned and ran by renowned Chocolatiere, Louise Frederique, who is famous for her gorgeous handmade chocolate creations, made with fresh cream and a range of imaginitive fresh ingredients. A large choice of her Selection Ecarlate, figurines and special occasion gifts are on sale in this unmissable little store. As well as chocolate creations, she also sells delicious sandwiches, savouries and pastries to take home (or eat straightaway if you can't wait!).

A perfect addition to this patisserie is the lovely little cafe situated to the rear of the shop, selling a range of excellent coffees, teas and of course, savouries and pastries lovingly prepared on the premises. Highly recommended by us and many of our guests.

The Tea Room at Roxbro House

Castle Terrace, Warkworth. Tel: 01665 711416

Previously only available to residents, Roxbro House Guest House has now opened their renowned tea room to non-residents. Offering traditional afternoon teas and a selection of light snacks, the setting is very traditional, with white table linen, sterling silver tableware and personal table service - just as it used to be before the dreaded 'self-service became so ubiquitous! Set in a pretty little conservatory, with French windows opening out onto a furnished terrace and sunny garden. Space is limited, so please book a table to avoid disappointment. Click here for more details of the extensive menu offered, which includes Traditional Teas and Champagne Teas with finger sandwiches and fresh cream scones, home made Crab Chowder, spinach and ricotta tartlets and Croque Monsieur. On the road to Acklington from Warkworth about 2 miles out. The cafe is very small with limited food however the ice cream is quite possibly the best you will ever taste - anywhere in the world! Housed in a converted part of the milking shed, it's lovely to see their award winning pedigree Ayrshire and Holstein cows milling around. There's a good little adventure playground for the kids too. Just around a mile south of Warkworth, in the fishing port of Amble is the recently opened and already highly acclaimed 'Zecca', specialising in traditional Italian cuisine with a modern twist and headed by former North East chef of the year Richard Sim, who trained under world renowned Marco Pierre White and more recently set up the Alnwick Garden Treehouse restaurant for the Duchess of Northumberland. With an open kitchen and traditional wood fired pizza oven, the restaurant is designed to feel relaxed and contemporary and offers quality food at a fair price - locally produced wherever possible - to Richard's high standard. Click on the link for their website which has details of open hours and the menu. Children welcome. I strongly recommend booking to avoid disappointment, as it's very popular all year round.

The Cook and Barker, Newton-on-the-Moor. Tel: 01665 575 234

A few miles out of Warkworth just off the A1. Very well recommended by a great many of our guests for the lovely, traditional, Northumbrian pub atmosphere, but with the added advantage of excellent quality cuisine. You need to book on an evening and weekends if you want to eat in the restaurant. Kids may not appreciate the adult style of the food on offer and they don't particularly cater for them, but they're welcome nonetheless.

Alnwick Garden Treehouse

The treehouse in Alnwick Castle Garden is the largest of its kind in Europe and is a sight worth seeing. There is an interesting cafe/restaurant housed in the treehouse serving good quality food (including lovely homebaked cakes). The atmosphere on dark evenings is magical, so definitely worth a visit if you can fit it in. On most Thursday and Friday evenings there is live jazz to accompany the delicious food being served.
