Name: Nicole Fenwick
Job Title: Owner
Business: Fenwick Gallery
Describe your business in three words:
Individual, contemporary, unique.
What does your day job bring?
A lot of variety. Time is balanced between the studio and gallery, from finding new and exciting artists and makers, to meeting the many visitors who stop by. We also try and take time out to walk along one of Northumberland’s coastal paths, finding beauty in the landscape. Each day brings something completely different.
How do you escape?
I’m lucky to live in Warkworth, which offers up many beautiful places to escape, including dunes filled with wildlife and wildflowers, a golden sandy beach and peaceful river walks. I also escape to my own ‘secret’ walled garden, where I grow vegetables and wild flowers.
What’s a special place to you?
The Hauxley Wildlife Discovery Centre is a special place that fills me with inspiration every time I visit. It’s located right next to the beach and offers fantastic views across Druridge Bay. It’s also one of the best places in Northumberland for wildlife-watching.
Where do you take your visitors?
The Farne Islands. I’ve made the trip over there so many times, but I still feel the anticipation and excitement every time. I’m always in awe at the sights and sounds of the thousands of seabirds. Cragside is also a firm favourite – it’s the place in which my love affair with gardening began.
What does Northumberland mean to you?
It means everything to me. The inspiration behind my work comes from its striking coastline, the fresh air, the rough seas and the wildlife. Every season makes the county look completely different and each one brings fresh inspiration.
