5 of the best brunch spots in Northumberland
Looking for somewhere to fuel up before a day of exploring? What better way to start off your day than with a tasty brunch in a relaxed setting? Here at Coquet Cottages, we’ve compiled a list of the best brunch spots to visit on your next trip to Northumberland.
1.) The Running Fox, Shilbottle, Felton & Longframlington
First on our list of the best brunch spots is The Running Fox – a delightful little business with three buzzy coffee shops in Shilbottle, Felton and Longframlington. Set in pretty-as-a-picture, rural locations close to Alnwick, Alnmouth and Morpeth, it’s the perfect spot to grab a coffee and a bite to eat. Pop in for ‘The Foxy Breakfast’ – including bacon buns, granola pots, eggy bread and the full works. Love it? Book in and return for their ‘Foxylicious Afternoon Tea’!
2.) The Barn at Beal, Berwick-upon-Tweed
Overlooking the historic Holy Island of Lindisfarne, The Barn at Beal is the place to be for a picture-postcard brunch. Priding itself on its use of locally sourced ingredients wherever possible, this cosy restaurant is home to the finest selection of teas and coffees, which are perfect when paired with your choice of mouth-watering tray bakes and cakes that are made fresh every day. Brekkie favourites include artisan toast with homemade jam, crushed avocado on toast, bacon or sausage rolls, full English and veggie breakfasts.
3.) Bertram’s, Warkworth
The next brunch spot on our list is Bertram’s, set in the beautiful village of Warkworth. Go here for the finest Northumberland produce in a refreshing, dog-friendly cafe. Whether you’re a scone and a pot of tea kind of brunch buddy, or you’re seeking out the best fry up in town, Bertram’s is sure to tick all the boxes for breakfast. Warm up by the log burning stove in the winter or bask in the sunny courtyard during the summer months. Dogs and muddy boots are very welcome.
4.) Saltwater Café, Beadnell
If you’re in the Beadnell area, we highly recommend stopping by Saltwater Café for a tasty brunch. This relaxing café is open from 8:30am, serving a huge choice of dishes from homemade cakes and pastries to heartier meals such as omelettes and sandwiches. It’s a must-visit when you’re next in the area, and it’s just a stone’s throw away from our cottages in Beadnell – The Drift House or Mariner’s Cottage.
5.) The Strawberry Lounge, Alnwick
Those with a sweet tooth should visit Strawberry Lounge in Alnwick – a cute smoothie bar and cafe serving homemade treats from 9.30am-4pm Tuesday-Saturday. Go here for delicious cakes and scones, as well as savoury snacks including pies, quiches, sandwiches and paninis. Relax and warm up over a cup of tea or coffee or get your healthy smoothie fix before exploring the great Northumberland countryside. A great place for brunch and treats with a loved one.
