In the Know: Your Local Recommendations

Looking for some recommendations for your next trip to Northumberland? Our local team reveal their favourite ways and places to relax and unwind…

“I never tire of strolling along beautiful Warkworth beach. Dramatically beautiful at any time of the year, it’s a real tonic whatever your mood and our Great Dane, Gracie, is in her element to have such a huge expanse of golden sand to race around on.”

“Hauxley Nature Reserve is a fantastic place to take a walk when you’re looking for some peace and quiet. The wildlife is beautiful and the views over the lake from the cafe are fantastic.”

“Everyone mentions Cragside as somewhere to visit, but there’s a reason it’s so popular. It really is beautiful – try to viit around June time when the Rhododendrons are out!”

“There is nothing more satisfying than taking my English Bull Terrier for a stroll through Hepburn Woods and taking in the breathtaking views over Northumberland, then finishing off the day with some hearty food and a local ale at the dog-friendly The Percy Arms!”

“As a keen cyclist, there’s nothing better than heading up the Northumberland coast early in the morning while the road are quiet, watching the sun shimmer on the sea and dunes, aiming for Bamburgh Castle or equally riding inland from Alnwick over the moors to Rothbury”

“An ideal day for me would be a crisp morning walk on Warkworth beach with my gorgeous rescue dog, Bella. After working up an appetite, we’d head to Bertrams for their smoked Craster Kippers, brown bread and butter. The length of the walk determines whether I’ve earned a slice of Lemon and Courgette cake for afters!”

“A popular attraction with both locals and visitors is Alnwick‘s Victorian Former Railway Station, Barter Books. They stock every kind of used book you can imagine and the tiny rumble of a toy train that runs along the tracks above your head makes the whole experience magical. The cafe’s hot chocolates are the best I’ve tasted!”
