Guest Feedback for Border House
Our visitors’ book at Border House is great to read through over a cup of coffee or a glass of wine and provide a wealth of recommendations on the best places to eat and visit, as well as some useful tips to benefit other guests. We also send Guest Surveys to all our guests after their holiday and some of their comments are listed here too.
Many guests have listed recommendations for the same lovely places, such as Warkworth Beach, Alnwick Castle and Gardens, Barter Books, Holy Island and the Farnes, but for the sake of avoiding repetition in this particular format, we have omitted these recommendations, but they can still be read in full in the visitors’ books in Border House.
Lovely cottage with a wealth of original features. The electric blankets were great! Beautiful little village with great walks from the door and a community shop with all the basics which was helpful in such a tucked away location. Would definitely come again. Quiet location. The Welcome Basket had sweets for Will and treats for the dogs, bread, butter, milk and teabags. All great.
Absolutely beautiful property which was very well appointed. The welcome hamper was complete with homemade goodies, which was a lovely surprise. Everything you could possibly need had been thought about and provided. It was just like being at home.
Three generations are hard to please under one roof but it fit the bill. The cottages was central to things we wanted to do such as Kielder and Alnwick plus it was in the heart of Northumberland National Park. The wood burner earned its keep as we arrived with torrential rain and flooding in the surrounding area.
Lovely, practical, spacious house that worked well for us. Loved the bedrooms.
We had a brilliant stay at Border House. Plenty of space, superbly equipped, comfortable beds, lovely welcome basket, I would highly recommend booking through Coquet cottages for a holiday or short break. Easy to use website with plenty of brilliant accommodation to choose from and staff are very helpful, they even rang before holiday started to check we had all information we needed and to let us know if we needed any further assistance to contact them. First cottage company to ever do that despite having used several over the years. A+ service and accommodation. Would highly recommend to anyone wishing to visit Northumberland, which is beautiful with fantastic beaches, forests and rivers to explore.
Lovely cottage. Brilliantly equipped, peaceful, relaxing and large rooms throughout. Coquet Cottages are the only cottage company to ring and check before you go on holiday to ensure you have everything you need and to reassure they are there if you need them. Wonderful welcome basket – superb and appreciated, thank you.
Border House is a very well prepared house with such a thoughtful welcome basket that included wine, flowers, chocolates and more treats!
This house has been perfect for us and our spaniels. Really! Everything has been thought about.
I began to quickly think ‘well such-an-such’ is bound to be here if I look, because Mrs Carnegie has thought of every little detail. That is so rare! Thank you! The house is also well located for the forest and beaches. Fabulous.
What an amazing house, we’ve loved the antiques and quirky homely bits and bobs. The beds and pillows were specially comfy, we all slept like logs. The area is beautiful and we’ve thoroughly enjoyed everywhere. We had extended family and the huge table seated all of us for several chaotic meals. We seemed to have everything, including lots of fluffy towels and the welcome basket. The AGA was just great.
We really enjoyed our stay at Border House. We have rented many holiday cottages over the years and this has definitely been the best equipped. Little things like tea and coffee to tide you over the first evening are really appreciated. Thanks for a great holiday.
The one thing we needed badly was peace, quiet and rest which this wonderful old house and the village gave us in spades. There is love in every corner of Border House which washes over you especially if you are in need which we were. We are so sorry to be leaving but we will be back as soon as we can. Thank you for sharing Border House with us. With much love.
Many thanks for our very enjoyable stay at Border House. The views from the castle of the snowy scene were fantastic. The lounge is super cosy and the kitchen is stocked like a home from home. The perfect new year’s getaway.
Thank you so much for sharing your fascinating home with us, and for all your kindness in making us so welcome. We have so appreciated this week. We have greatly valued the friendliness of so many local people. A very special week we shall long remember.
Everything we needed and very comfortable. Delightful characterful house, great for family holidays – can’t wait to come back again, thanks very much.
Best holiday we have had in a long time, despite the rather dreary weather. Beautiful countryside and so much to fit in that we didn’t have time to do all the walks we had planned. Oh well, we’ll just have to come back! Great house and it felt really homely. Excellent food at the Cross Keys. We live in Somerset and thought that nothing could beat it for beauty – well its met its match in Northumberland – we’ll be back! Thank you for a lovely holiday.
Another brilliant stay in Border House! Wonderful walks in the glorious countryside and always the cosy warmth of the aga to return to! A really lovely time – thank you.
Thanks again for a fabulous stay in Border House. Always had a great time and as an addition the weather has been great. The home always has been comfy and cosy and the fire has been on in the chilly evenings. Hope to return soon for another week here.
We have been very comfortable. The large dining room has been brilliant for entertaining friends and the weather too has been kind. The fire in the evenings was cosy and BBQ was useful, thanks!
What a warm welcome to such a lovely cottage. Home from home! Ideal location for so many walks and magnificent views. So much more to see in another trip!
We have had a lovely week exploring this side of Northumberland. Some lovely walks and beautiful scenery. It was lovely coming back to this lovely house after a day out walking. Dogs are shattered and so are we! Many thanks.
Saw glimpses of the countryside and were impressed. Accommodation very welcoming and comfortable. This visit will be part of life’s memories.
Many thanks for a lovely stay – we were very comfortable indeed. Gale force winds did not affect the cosiness of the house. Thanks also for the lovely plum jam welcome – delicious, and a kind thought!
A beautiful house in a beautiful place – everyone is so friendly here. Can’t wait to come back, we have had a wonderful time.
Complete relaxation in a beautiful part of the world. Our second visit but hopefully not our last.
What a great house and garden. There is so much to do and see in this area. Used an AGA for the first time with spectacular results. Many thanks.
Thank you for a superb stay again (our third visit). We love the house and the weather has been great.
Have really enjoyed our stay at Border House. The House itself is lovely – a real home from home – love the AGA, we wouldn’t change anything. There is so much to do around here and the house is so lovely. I am sure we will be back.
The cottage looked amazing in your brochure and we were not disappointed… we could not fault it. It was beautiful and very clean, very well presented. We enjoyed everything about it. Facilities and equipment (kitchen) lacked for nothing. A beautiful base to explore Northumberland. A credit to the owner and Coquet Cottages.
We liked the fantastic location and the lovely family kitchen. We loved the quirky original furniture throughout the house – it made it feel very special. The kitchen and utility room were excellent and we have a really lovely week in Harbottle.
Catered for everyone! Tea was very welcoming as we forgotten to bring some!
Love the traditional look of the cottage and the AGA. We appreciated the homemade jam and of course the wine!
House of character with comfortable beds!
Spacious, good kitchen and quiet! It exactly fitted all of our requirements for a large family. It also had other features that appealed to us (wood burning stove, garden, stone built).
The dogs had space in a secure garden and because the kitchen was large we could keep them in there. Someone rang us to check we had settled in comfortably and had everything we needed – nice touch and appreciated!
The flowers and welcome pack was a very nice touch. It also included some homemade preserves that were very good!
Our week in Border House has gone too quickly! We enjoyed your comfortable cottage, its log fire and AGA very much! The weather wasn’t great but we got out and enjoyed the lovely setting. We think Northumberland is beautiful. Thanks for the welcome pack, we really enjoyed it.
Can only repeat what has been said already – clean, comfortable, wonderful quality of sheets and towels etc… All one could wish for!
Our third New Year here, and as always, we’ve loved it! The new sofa is much appreciated, as are the comfy beds. Rubbish weather, but it didn’t stop us from walking! Thank you, and Happy New Year!
Thank you for a really lovely stay with peaceful and relaxing surroundings. The welcome pack was extremely generous, and very gratefully received by all! The house was very clean on arrival (thank you!) and we felt at home straight away. We were all in need of some fresh air and peace, which Border House and it’s surroundings provided in bucket loads. The weather wasn’t brilliant, but that didn’t stop us from venturing out, both locally and further afield. Highlights this time included – Alnmouth, Druridge Bay, ice cream at Spurelli’s (Amble), Wallington House and Gardens, and some nice walks from the house. Unfortunately, we couldn’t access the castle ruins due to lambing season, but the lambs in the fields roundabout more than made up for the lack of visit to historical ruins! This is our second visit to Northumberland with Coquet Cottages, and we love it! Will definitely be back. Thank you to Sarah and the staff at Coquet Cottages.
The fresh flowers were a lovely Greeting, as well as the milk in the fridge and provision of tea and coffee with biscuits – made for a lovely cuppa on arrival… Wine was also very much appreciated! Inca & Jet (Black Labs) enjoyed very much the balls and also very pleased to find they also had treats to munch on!
Everything was stunning, beautiful big house, and very tastefully furnished it was a real home from home, we loved it. Loved the fact the owner had lovely collectables around the house, the old iron collection was fascinating, it really was a perfect place to stay. The village was lovely and we had a really wonderful time. I will definitely use your company again. We booked at short notice as our original cottage with an alternative company was cancelled, but I think it was a bit of luck, because I think this was a better cottage and location.
Second stay here – very cosy with the Aga, very clean and snug. Well provisioned and very quiet, plus a good base for days out. Plenty of walks locally if you don’t want to venture too far. Stunning landscape and sense of space. Interesting historic facts (The Drakestone, the Castle, the theme from Captain Pugwash composed in Harbottle).
The house felt like a home, with great photos and maps on the walls, character and good quality crocks etc. Loved the quilts on the beds too. Aga in the kitchen was home-from-home (the dogs loved it) and we used it for cooking/reheating. The kitchen through to the sitting room was great – we could leave the door open to see the dogs whilst relaxing ourselves.
The house was clean, everything well thought out, lovely extra touches like the hamper with dog treats and human treats! It was well-located and beautifully furnished. Really a home from home.

A lovely cottage in a stunning location. Very well thought out welcome basket and superb information on both cottage and the area. We really enjoyed our stay and would heartily recommend this cottage to friends.
