So beautifully designed and well equipped it has won awards and even been featured in a magazine, this superb property offers the chance of an unforgettable escape for couples or families, plus two furry friends. The house is set on the banks of the River Coquet in the delightful village of Warkworth. Here you’ll find a great selection of boutique shops, pubs and places to eat, all just steps from the cottage, while the spectacular Warkworth Castle sits just above the village. The beach is 1 mile away, a vast expanse of golden sand that’s dog-friendly and offers plenty of space for beach games or bracing walks. In the seaside village of Amble, 2 miles, you’ll find arty shops and award-winning fish restaurants, or head to Alnwick, 7.5 miles away, for the magnificent Alnwick Castle, often referred to as ‘the Windsor of the North’.
High ceilings, Georgian sash windows, cast-iron radiators and original fireplaces give this handsome house immense character, while sumptuous contemporary conveniences have been added to make your stay supremely comfortable. Push open the front door (two steps up from the pavement) and enter the stone-flagged hallway, from where you can stroll into the spacious lounge, where comfortable sofas are arranged around a wood burner in an inglenook fireplace. This fabulous room also has a reading area at the opposite end, with deep armchairs and an ornamental fireplace. There’s no shortage of entertainment here, in the form of books, guidebooks, map and magazines, an mp3 player with Bose music system and a Smart TV for streaming all your favourite shows. In the dining room you’ll find an antique oak table with plenty of space for six people to enjoy leisurely meals, unfold a map or set out one of the board games that are stored in the cupboard. Heading through to the back of the house, you’ll pass the elegant family bathroom and reach the impressive kitchen, boasting a range-style stainless-steel cooker, solid-oak cupboards and granite worktops. A breakfast table provides space for four people to enjoy snacks and meals while chatting with the book, and there’s even a digital TV in this room. Adjacent to the kitchen (but accessed via the courtyard) is the utility room, which has laundry facilities, a second large fridge/freezer and space for storing bikes. Take the turning staircase to reach the three bedrooms, the first of them a king-size room with gorgeous decor, including a cast-iron bed with luxurious linens. This room also boasts a spacious en-suite bathroom, with a shower over the extra-large bath and Travertine marble tiling. Two further steps up lead to the remaining bedrooms, both of which are decorated in lovely French Country style and have delightful river views. The super-king-size room has an en-suite WC, while the twin room offers two 3’ beds which can convert to a super-king-size on request. All three bedrooms have TVs and ample storage for clothes.
When fresh air and sunshine beckon you outdoors, throw open the French windows in the kitchen and step through to the spacious patio, where furniture is ready for you to bring out a meal or a drink. Admire the natural well (safely covered by an iron grate) and explore further to find a further garden with a large lawn that’s perfect for children and dogs who want to run around and play. Chairs and toys for indoor and outdoor use are stored in the summerhouse. As for parking, the quiet, riverbank roadside adjacent to the cottage has space for up to three cars (subject to availability – usually not a problem), with additional parking 50 metres away.
