Our visitors’ book at Hermitage at Bamburgh is great to read through over a cup of coffee or a glass of wine and provide a wealth of recommendations on the best places to eat and visit, as well as some useful tips to benefit other guests. We also send Guest Surveys to all our guests after their holiday and some of their comments are listed here too.
Really lovely cottage, so typically Bamburgh. It had everything we needed, we cant think of anything that could have been better.
The property was in a good location and the right size for our family group, as well as being dog friendly.
Absolutely gorgeous cottage, perfectly located and we had a great time. It was so comfortable and perfect for our dog as well
Weekend with friends, what a wonderful stay in the most perfect cottage. Comfortable, well equipped with those special touches to make you feel welcome. Feel so relaxed and rejuvenated after our visit to The Hermitage – Thank you!
Had a lovely family weekend for dads 70th birthday. Bamburgh is lovely and the cottage is a great location and really well equipped. Thanks for a lovely visit.
Great accommodation for family of four where two of the kids are teenage girls. Very comfortable cosy and rustic with amazing views. Location. We’ve explored much of Northumberland but this was our first time in Bamburgh. Ideally situated for the pubs and restaurants with the local Pantry right next door.
Thank you. Lovely cottage.
Thank you very much. What a wonderful place!! Brilliant beginning for adventures!
The cottage was nice and homely, It had a great location with a cosy nature to it. The Christmas tree was a nice touch. The Welcome Basket was very comprehensive, with milk, butter, plenty of biscuits and wine!
An absolutely beautiful cottage in an amazing place. Right in the village so everywhere close and accessible but just nicely tucked away to be peaceful. Absolutely lovely inside, tastefully decorated and the extra touches for guests were lovely. I will definitely be back. The quality of the cottage was amazing and the helpful but not intrusive contact from Coquet Cottages whilst booking were lovely. I genuinely loved everything.
A lovely cottage in a perfect location.
The cottage was perfect for us – excellent location, lots of room, great views and equipped with everything we needed. We wish we’d booked a week & not 4 nights but hope to return! The fact that it was in Bamburgh itself so that we could walk to the beach (we came with a toddler and it was great not to have to get in the car sometimes. Oh – he loved the selection of toys too! Much appreciated!!). Wine is always welcome!! & the cheese scones looked lovely but unfortunately we weren’t in enough to eat them!
Beautiful week of weather! This cottage has been a great place to base our adventures! Alnwick Castle, Holy Island, Cragside and a boat to see the seals all a great trip out. We will be back.

Great cottage, we all fitted in comfortably. Lots of choice for meals out and treated ourselves to sausage and bacon rolls from the butcher for breakfast. Walks on the beach and castles to visit. What more could we want!
Here for a 50th birthday collaboration, we all had a great time. Lovely to find the hamper waiting for us. Managed to sit in a visit to Alnwick, walks on the beach and enjoyable local meals out.
The Whittakers, May 2019
Had a wonderful short break here – Bamburgh as lovely as ever and the cottage was ideal – great locations, lovely view and everything we could have needed. Thank you especially for all the toys! We could hardly tear our son from the ‘red chest’. Fabulous weather was a great bonus.

We have had a wonderful time at this cottage, in a fantastic location in the middle of Bamburgh. Thanks for the welcome basket, it had all the essential supplies. We’d recommend the local sits of Cragside, Alnwick Castle and Bamburgh Castle. The local pubs and restaurants are all good and worth a visit.
We have really enjoyed our stay in the cottage. Lovely comfortable beds, and the cottage is very well equipped. Great location, lovely days spent on the beach.
Lovely cottage in the middle of Bamburgh which suited us very much to stay in. Our son got married at Bamburgh Castle on the 16th June. Thanks so much for letting us stay, we enjoyed it so much. The butchers just up the road sells fabulous steaks and pork pies!
Thank you for a lovely stay! The welcome hamper was a really nice gesture and the scones were so yummy. Rooms were really comfortable and we had everything that we could need. Such a great base for exploring the coast and what a great view! I’d recommend both Lord Crew & Castle Inn for afternoon tea – dog friendly too! Great walk to Seahouses along the beach and interesting to visit Bamburgh Castle. Holy Island well worth a visit but Lindisfarne currently being renovated and has nothing in it which was a bit disappointing. Alnwick Gardens were fabulous and i can imagine the grounds would be beautiful in the summer. Unfortunately we didn’t have time to visit the castle – but we will definitely be back with Coquet Cottages soon too experience it then! We will definitely be back.
Lovely break! Enjoyed Bamburgh and all the beauty of Northumberland. We are frequent visitors to the country and we are never disappointed. Lovely walk in Seahouses followed by great food at The Potted Lobster in Bamburgh. We visit Northumberland annually and try different parts of the county each time, probably now just about completed the circuit and will start it all again!
A lovely cottage in a lovely part of the country. The welcome hamper was great appreciated and the guest information file was very informative and full.
Thank you for a lovely stay. The house has been so cosy and comfortable. We had a wonderful family reunion travelling from Edinburgh and West Berkshire!
Wonderful, well equipped base from which to explore the local area. Very welcoming touches such as the basket full of everything to get you started for your stay. Comfy beds and a warm cosy home. Overall we’ve had a wonderful stay in a holiday cottage which did not disappoint.
We’ve had a relaxing and joyful family holiday. Enjoying family walks along the beach with a very happy dog! One morning we enjoyed a sunny, brisk walk to Seahouses followed by a visit to Ellingham Castle in the afternoon. The house was so cosy and homely with a great view of the castle from the living room.
We’ve had a fabulous time at The Hermitage. We’ve been so lucky with the weather and enjoyed building sandcastles and splashing our feet on the beach! We’ve had a lovely trip around the Farne Islands on Captain Cranky’s boat. The cottage has been wonderful, with an amazing view of the castle and everything we could need! The dolls house has been a big hit with Ada.
Wonderful, well equipped base from which to explore the local area. Very welcome touches such as basket, milk, etc. Very much appreciated. A fabulous short break here in Bamburgh. Brought back memories of childhood days spent on the beach here and the weather has been fabulous. Highly recommend!
This is such a beautiful area. We have had a fantastic fortnight exploring. We can recommend the walk from Bamburgh to Budle Bay. The Hermitage has been a very comfortable base in a lovely village. Thank you so much for the welcome basket, it really was welcome after a 9-hour journey from Dorset! We will be back to this fabulous County!
The Hermitage is one of the best cottages we have stayed in. the beds are super comfy and it is so well equipped, clean and nicely decorated. And, of course, the location and views are brilliant! Thank you for the welcome basket and excellent visitor information.
Modern, luxurious with ideal spaces for relaxing and dining. We’ve stayed in self catering cottages for many years, Hermitage Cottage surpassed them all with fantastic accommodation and such a wonderful welcome pack, we felt quite spoilt the minute we walked in!
Well presented and everything we required e.g. Washing machine and tumble dryer. With two tinies essential. Upstairs lounge great for a night time sit. View fabulous. Will more than likely be back. My husband is a geordie so he loves coming back to Northumberland.
We have had such a lovely time staying at The Hermitage – love, love, love the view from the bedroom and the lounge! The cottage is so well equipped, clean and comfortable. Thank you for the welcome basket – that was a lovely touch (yummy cheese scones!). We have had great walks along the beach, climbing over rocks and playing in the sand. We had a gorgeous meal at The Potted Lobster and a yummy Sunday lunch at the Victoria Hotel. We are a family of 6 and have all had a totally fantastic time. I’m sure we will be back! Thank you.

The location was brilliant, and the view of the castle from the lounge and upstairs bedroom was fantastic! We were over the moon to find that the owners of Hermitage had left a Birthday present for my little boy’s 3rd Birthday! The hamper alone was incredible, let alone this extra gift. We were very touched. We had a wonderful holiday thank you, we’d love to come back another time soon!
