Our visitors’ book at Hermitage Cottage is great to read through over a cup of coffee or a glass of wine and provide a wealth of recommendations on the best places to eat and visit, as well as some useful tips to benefit other guests. We also send Guest Surveys to all our guests after their holiday and some of their comments are listed here too.
Many guests have listed recommendations for the same lovely places, such as Warkworth Beach, Alnwick Castle and Gardens, Barter Books, Holy Island and the Farnes, but for the sake of avoiding repetition in this particular format, we have omitted these recommendations, but they can still be read in full in the visitors’ books in Hermitage Cottage.
Absolutely fabulous cottage, which exceeded our expectations. It was clean, well furnished and extremely comfortable. The welcome pack had everything we needed for our arrival, and a nice tipple (wine) which was a lovely gesture. I thought the local produce was a lovely touch. Huge thank you to the cleaning team, the home was spotless.
We had a great short trip.
Beautiful cottage ,comfortable & well equipped in a very peaceful location. We felt instantly at home. The beds were so comfortable. There was a very well equipped kitchen too.
We loved the size, location and the parking facilities at the property.
The cottage was great, it had everything we needed and was very comfortable. It is always a pleasure to book with Coquet Cottages, as we can always relax knowing that everything will be great.
Great biscuits and bread. We also enjoyed the local beer and wine which I’m sure is always appreciated. We loved the space and the internal courtyard was nice too. My son appreciated the Xbox and the WiFi. Victoria in the office was very helpful.
We have stayed here a number of times and love it. It is in a lovely quiet area. The property is a great size for a party of 6 and beautifully furnished.
This was a very clean property and had a wonderful welcome basket for us and our dog. The owner also kept in touch firstly letting us know the cottage was ready, and contacted us the day after to ensure everything was ok. Another wonderful holiday at Hermitage. It was so clean and comfortable.
We’ve stayed here before and liked the cottage and its location. The text and phone call from the owner were a nice touch. The property had very comfortable beds, was well equipped and plenty of space. Suitable for dogs which was an added bonus for us.
A beautiful cottage throughout. There were 5 of us so that influenced our choice, plus the fact we could bring our dog.
Beautiful cottage – clean, everything we needed. Welcome pack and flowers a lovely touch.
Our first holiday for 18 months and it was everything we hoped it would be. It was dry, sunny and incredibly chilling after what has been an absolutely awful year for us all. Monty and Rigsby had an amazing time too, covering miles of Warkworth beach every day before sleeping it off in the courtyard at Hermitage! Thanks to you and your team for making our holiday as safe as possible with your incredibly thorough Covid protocol. You gave us the confidence to enjoy our break. Once again congratulations to Coquet Cottages for being simply the best!
This property was home from home which was perfect! This is our fifth visit. It is always a pleasure dealing with the wonderful staff at Coquet Cottages. We are grateful for the manner in which you and the owners have worked during the pandemic to ensure 1) We didn’t lose our money and 2) The outstand Covid 19 protocols put in place, to ensure our safety.
Lovely property. The wine and scones were a nice touch, we would stay again.
Hermitage Cottage, has a homely look and feel to it. We really enjoyed the space, location and the scones! What a fabulous place!

Just returned from a wonderful week at Hermitage Cottage. We had everything we could ask for and so much more! Cottage was perfect, open fire and underfloor heating which the dog adored! The kitchen had everything we needed, including a wide selection of tea/coffee for when we arrived and milk. Also matching glasses, one of my little pet hates with other properties we have stayed at in the past. Toiletries in the bathrooms were a real luxury, as was the welcome basket and foods for both us and Billie the dog! Cottage was in a very quiet location, but a short drive from Warkworth which was lovely. We did lots of walks and nice area for running as roads very quiet. Cottage also not far from station where you can get into Newcastle if you have teenage girls who fancy some retail therapy during their visit!

Dog friendly and in a beautiful location. Quiet, hidden away. Comfortable and beautifully decorated. Everything we needed was provided. Thoughtful treats for the whole family, including the dog.
The Cottage was Perfect! Open fire, good quality furniture, looked great in the pictures and had everything we wanted. Best information file we have come across. House was spotless and the basket of goodies amazing. Roses were nice touch. Loved all the treats, nice to be able to have scones on arrival after a long journey and great having milk and all the teas/coffees while we were waiting for our food delivery. Lovely cottage and company, we would definitely use again.
A truly delightful and very well appointed cottage offering ease of access to the Northumberland Coast and surrounding area. Sleeps 6 comfortably and our stay exceeded our expectations in every respect. Highly recommended, but own transport at this location is absolutely essential when considering ease of accessibility A*****
Superb – stayed in lots of cottages and this is easily the best. Looking for something in the Warkworth area, as this village had been recommended, and it had 3 double rooms. I can’t rate this cottage highly enough and the Welcome Basket was fantastic. Thank you.
We keep returning, we love it. The location is beautiful and the cottage gets better every time we stay. It is immaculate. Beautifully furnished, comfortable and exceptionally clean. The lovely surprise bottle of champagne for our wedding anniversary and a card from the owners. We hadn’t realised we had mentioned it.
The Taylors, June 2019
Very comfortable cottage, excellent attention to detail and we felt very looked after. The description on the website was accurate and the communication from Coquet Cottages and owner was both helpful and considerate. The welcome basket was very generous particularly as we were only staying 3 nights. For 3 nights stay the welcome pack was exceptionally generous – it is the best welcome basket I have ever experienced in 20 years of renting cottages. We also liked the fresh flowers in the kitchen – nice touch. We will definitely use Coquet Cottages again and also return to Hermitage Cottage. We also liked the fresh flowers in the kitchen – nice touch. Keep doing what you are doing. We will be coming back. It was a very memorable 75th Birthday weekend, thank you.
The cottage had a lovely welcoming atmosphere with a very high level of fittings and furnishings. The kitchen was very well equipped with an excellent amount of plates, cutlery , glasses etc and were of a very high quality and complete sets – not just the odds and ends that one usually finds! Highly impressed with the organisation and information provided for all aspects of the house with manuals for appliances, explanations for all eventualities and all necessary equipment provided. The info folder was excellent – lots of tips for visiting and personal recommendations saved much time looking on the internet or through folders. I wish every holiday rental had one! The house is in a very peaceful location and we felt very much at home and as a result had an excellent holiday. It was very thoughtful of Susan to send a text to check if we had arrived okay and if all was in order. Would definitely recommend Hermitage Cottage and would be very happy to return to explore more of Northumberland.
The Sanchez Family, March 2019
This is the second time that we have stayed in this exceptional property. We will be staying here again next year. A real home from home!
Wonderful property surrounded by beautiful countryside and just a short drive into Warkworth. We thought the doggy basket was a thoughtful touch – much appreciated. Loved the fresh flowers too – it felt like walking into home.
Hermitage cottage is always our favorite house to stay at in Northumberland, it’s situated in a lovely quiet area just outside Warkworth village and the quality of the cottage and the attention to detail is great. We hope to come back again soon.
Stayed at Hermitage Cottage Sturton Grange and it was lovely. So cosy and homely and everything you need for your stay. They even left us a welcome hamper with wine, chocolates, scones, jam, bread, milk, butter and a bunch of flowers. We loved it so much we came home and booked it again for the same time next year.
Our third stay and as always lovely and clean and a great welcome basket. Just what you need after a long journey. The kids love this part of Northumberland and if they are happy so are we. See you again next year.
A very happy stay celebrating an 80th birthday, in this comfortable and well equipped cottage in a beautiful historic area. We even had good weather, with some of us having a swim in the sea as well as visits to castles etc.
Beautifully situated. Quiet and secluded, yet easy access to all of the regional towns, villages and historic landmarks. Thoroughly recommend walking down to see the sun rise over the valley, then short drive into Warkworth village the chance (whilst most local folk are asleep!) to view the castle and have a walk around the village. The cottage is a home from home, and the kids loved it.
Our 2nd stay at this cottage – didn’t disappoint at all – just as fabulous as the first ime. Very clean and well-equipped. Great location for all the beautiful coastal walks, beach, castles etc. Can’t wait to come back, a very relaxing place. Thank you!
Fabulous location and beautifully appointed cottage! Had a great time, mainly on the beach with the children.
No hassle, smooth running and so far the property booked is just as described and seen on website and more – home from home feeling as so clean and comfortable.
I love the idea of renting out a number of cottages as a large group – there is so much to do locally and I can see us coming to visit as family regularly.
Everything was great, we had a super holiday and will definitely re-book with Coquet Cottages again, the service provided is streets above any other cottage company, we are never disappointed with the cottage that is recommended to us by the friendly staff there and feel as if nothing is too much trouble. The cottage was lovely, we were all comfortable there. Thank you.
Coquet Cottages are far more helpful and efficient than others we have booked with in the past. We wish you had cottages in other parts of the country!
Our second stay at this fabulous house! Everything just as perfect as it was two years ago. Fresh sea air, good food, wine and a wonderful house – what more could you ask for – hope you enjoy it as much as we did.
Our third visit and it won’t be our last; it’s like coming home and it just gets better and better. The Hermitage – what can we say? It’s a home away from home – without the responsibility! We absolutely love it. As always we are very sad to be leaving but very grateful again for a wonderful week that has renewed us and done us the world of good.
This is our fourth time here but first time in this cottage – it’s gorgeous! We settled in immediately and have had another wonderful break from our hectic everyday life. There’s so much to do in this area and this is the perfect base to come back to and chill out. Thanks again!
Lovely cottage, well appointed. The bedrooms were great as were the bathrooms – Charlie our son took to reading on the nice warm bathroom floor. The kitchen diner was very well appointed too.
Sad to say we only stayed a few days with the rest of our group of friends but a wonderful place and fabulous scenery around here, must come back again in spring time.
The house is amazing, it’s huge and very spacious. We loved the welcome pack, it was a lovely touch. Everything was very clean and there were plenty of board games, DVDs and books to keep us occupied for hours. The stay was very enjoyable for all; we’d definitely come back again another time.
Superb accommodation. Very comfortable and everything you need – home from home. The boys loved the under floor heating in the bathroom! Thank you very much for the tasty welcome pack – a lovely touch. Excellent base for the tourist attractions. Embleton beach worth a visit. Also the Metrocentre, Newcastle – it has all the shops you could ever want! Thank you again and we will definitely be back.
We had a most relaxing time, we recharged our batteries. The house is modern, beautiful, bright and well stocked. We appreciated the generosity of towels. Everything comfortable and the view is great. Thanks for everything.
Our third stay, as always, lovely and clean and a great welcome basket, just what you need after a long journey. The kids love this part of Northumberland and if they are happy then so are we. See you again next year!
A very happy stay (celebrating an 80th birthday) in this comfortable and well equipped cottage in a beautiful and historic area.
Beautifully situated, quiet and secluded, yet easy access to all of the lovely regional towns, villages and historical landmarks. Hermitage Cottage is home from home, kids loved it.
Our second stay at this cottage – didn’t disappoint us at all – just as fabulous as the first time. Very clean and well equipped. Great location for all the beautiful coastal walks, beaches, castles, etc. Can’t wait to come back. Very relaxing place. Thank you!
Our second stay at this fabulous house! Everything just as perfect as it was two years ago. The week has come to an end all too quickly. Fresh sea air, good food, wine and a wonderful house – what more could you ask for? Hope you enjoy it as much as we did!
Our third visit and it won’t be the last. It’s like coming home and it just gets better and better. We’ve enjoyed familiar walks and discovered a few new ones. Hermitage Cottage is a home away from home – without the responsibility! we absolutely love it. As always we are sad to be leaving but very grateful again for a wonderful week that has renewed us and done us the world of good.
This is our fourth time here – it’s gorgeous! We settle in immediately and have had another wonderful break from our hectic everyday life. There’s so much to do in this area and this is the perfect base to come back and chill out. Thanks again!

Our second visit to Northumberland and certainly not our last. Lovely cottage and lovely thoughtful touches – thank you for the welcome basket. Lovely animal neighbours too! Would recommend a visit to Ulgham Wildlife Rescue Centre, containing lots of British animals with heart-warming rescue stories. Opportunity to feed the very friendly goats, horses and donkeys – a must for animal lovers of all ages. Lovely walks and the beaches are the North East’s best kept secret – amazing! If you love good food, can recommend The Wellwood in Amble – the food is up there with the best we’ve had. Loved Warkworth Castle and the Medieval Tournament and Bamburgh is amazing. Thanks again for a lovely holiday.
A gorgeous well equipped cottage. Welcome basket was a lovely thought. Sad we were only here for a weekend. Can thoroughly recommend Whitehouse Farm Centre in Morpeth for little people – even on a rainy day there’s lots to see and do.
Fantastic cottage in an ideal location. Perfect for days out with the kids. Easily filled seven days and still much more to see so we will definitely be back sometime in the future! A wonderful time, the cottage is great and the surrounding countryside beautiful!
Bringing our children and grandchildren back to the places we enjoyed as kids. Alnmouth beach, Alnwick moor, Coquet and Ingram Valley, Warkworth Castle and the river and of course Amble Harbour. Great fish and chips from the quayside in Amble. Good food at Zecca in Amble and the Coach Inn at Lesbury. The Treehouse Restaurant at Alnwick Garden is well worth a visit. Hermitage cottage is the best we have ever stayed in and the kids enjoyed the space.
We have had a lovely week with lovely weather and to stay in a cottage like this has made it all the more enjoyable. There are so many places to visit, however we chose Holy Island – gorgeous! Alnwick Garden, Seahouses, Craster (bought kippers!), Warkworth Castle. We visited Alnwick and Alnmouth every day and our favourite place was Alnmouth beach which was beautiful! We also visited Amble for fish and chips. Enjoy your stay!
This has been the best cottage we have stayed in so far and we will recommend this to anyone who would be staying in this area. The cottage is very well equipped – even a set of scales so I could make some scones. We will return when we next stay in Northumberland.
Arrived on my birthday to find fabulous accommodation. We have never stayed in such a spacious, well equipped cottage as this before! We spent some glorious days on the beaches at Alnmouth and Beadnell. The children loved Alnwick Garden – especially getting wet in the fountains! We spent a lovely day at Cragside. We also spent a happy hour in Barter Books (managed to read some books, take them back and buy new ones!). The local leisure centre in Alnwick next to Sainsbury’s was enjoyable – large clean pool which the kids loved. The highlight of the accommodation was the peacock family, which entertained us on an evening. All in all a wonderful holiday – a week was not enough!
Our second visit to Northumberland and Hermitage Cottage, and just as enjoyable as the first! One wet morning but otherwise a fine, dry week enabled us to do a lot of walking and touring, plus our usual ‘hunt the best stone’ game. We recommend, for fantastic views, the walk from Craster to Dunstanburgh and back, Housesteads Fort on Hadrian’s Wall and the drive from Rothbury to Alnwick. For scones, cakes and lunch (excellent), The Shoreline Cafe in Craster, Pilgrim’s Cafe on Lindisfarne and the Ship Inn at Low Newton by the Sea. Roman Army Museum is very good and Hexham Abbey is wonderful! Enjoy!
Having been visiting the North East for many years, this has been the most superior property so far. Warm, very well equipped and very comfortable. Arrived in storms, followed by beautiful sunshine for the rest of the week. A wonderful week, over too quickly.
Came for a special birthday with invited friends – everyone was impressed by the cottage and the exceptional standard. We had great walks along the coastline and super evening meals together in the fantastic kitchen. Welcome pack a lovely idea and enjoyed by all.
Our first time in the North East and we have had a very good time indeed, helped by lovely weather for October and this fine cottage as a base. So much to see: Alnwick, Bamburgh, Lindisfarne, the National Park, good beaches, magnificent scenery. Cragside highly recommended as well. Domestically, a good Sainsbury’s in Alnwick. Membership of National trust and English Heritage a great bonus, since both are well represented here. Janice recommends the crab sandwiches at The Ship Inn, Low Newton by the Sea. Saw Red Kites, Red Squirrels and multitudes of Pheasants.
What a fabulous house and location – we’re frequently visiting Northumberland and it’s the best yet. Very pleased with the whole stay. Thanks for the welcome basket. Excellent beaches, castles, walks and weather! Good places to eat in Alnwick – the Art House is excellent, next to the Tower House which was also good. We would be quite happy to live here. Many thanks, we’ll be back.
What a fantastic week we have had. Superb accommodation in beautiful countryside. Warkworth and Alnwick, and their castles, are particularly lovely, and the coastline and beaches are glorious. Plenty of things to see and do, or just relax in the cottage. The welcome pack was much appreciated. We even got good weather virtually all week! One of our very best holidays, thank you.
Lovely weather, lovely cottage, everything we needed, the beaches were beautiful and Bamburgh and Warkworth castles spectacular. Many thanks for the welcome basket. Excellent cottage – a good base for seeing this part of Northumberland. Not many castles in Hertfordshire, so have made up for that this week! Can recommend the Coach Inn at Lesbury and Topsy Turvey in Warkworth. A very good week.
Excellent accommodation. Would love to live here permanently. Great weather despite the predictions. Lots of lovely beaches both Embleton and Alnmouth recommended and Amble provides great rock pools! The local station provided a great day trip to Edinburgh. The Alnwick Music Festival was a great bonus. We’ve all enjoyed the holiday with lots to do for all ages. Many thanks for a memorable stay.
The house is great and very comfortable. thank you for the welcome pack. The biggest surprise with the house was with one of the peacocks looking in the window. Our best day out with small children was at Bamburgh – excellent beach and the best castle we’ve ever been to. Lindisfarne was also spectacular.
Our first visit to Northumberland and everything – the landscape, the castles, the beaches, the kippers – has been wonderful. A real adventure, lots of lovely memories to treasure. The house made a super base, a real home from home. Many thanks for thinking of our every need.
We are regular visitors to Northumberland and this house is one of the nicest we’ve stayed in – nice and peaceful, but within easy reach of civilisation. Warkworth Castle was our favourite day out, the medieval pageant kept the kids entertained all day with a short break for lunch at one of the many local pubs! The welcome pack was gratefully received after our journey. Thank you for a lovely holiday!
Overall we thought the cottage was beautiful and more than suited our needs for holding a family get together after our son’s wedding and we loved the location. Definitely would stay again!
Had a fabulous couple of days at Hermitage Cottage. The cottage was well equipped and stylish. Perfect base for us to explore Northumberland. Good selection of DVDs & books – would easily be happy to stay for a week next visit. Beautiful views & great to have a private outdoor area too. Thank you so much for the hamper – a very nice welcoming touch
2nd stay with Coquet Cottages & it won’t be our last. Susan, you have a gorgeous cottage which was situated perfectly for our adventures. We loved the welcome basket and the flowers – thank you.
What a fantastic cottage, had a great time. Love the touches, food in Warkworth really good. Many thanks, the week has been brilliant.
A truly superb cottage, well equipped, extremely comfortable, all we needed for our week exploring the beauty of Northumberland. The welcome hamper and friendly calls from susan were both really nice touches. Thank You. It has been great to switch off & relax.
