Our visitors’ book at Kirkstone Cottage is great to read through over a cup of coffee or a glass of wine and provide a wealth of recommendations on the best places to eat and visit, as well as some useful tips to benefit other guests. We also send Guest Surveys to all our guests after their holiday and some of their comments are listed here too.
Many guests have listed recommendations for the same lovely places, such as Warkworth Beach, Alnwick Castle and Gardens, Barter Books, Holy Island and the Farnes, but for the sake of avoiding repetition in this particular format, we have omitted these recommendations, but they can still be read in full in the visitors’ books in Kirkstone Cottage.
Great location, comfortable and well equipped cottage. There was plenty of space for 4. The property had great showers and the best washer/dryer I’ve ever used.
Another of several visits to this beautiful part of the country with its expanse of fabulous empty beaches. We enjoyed some great walking around Craster, Druridge Bay and Dunstanburgh. Bertram’s in Warkworth is excellent, very dog friendly and now does evening bistro tables, however pupster’s are not allowed in the evenings. We were really pleased with the accommodation and can’t wait until our next visit!

Perfect cottage for a family, lovely touch with the welcome packs including one for the dog.
We had a nice weekend and enjoyed the area with great walks and beaches and Alnwick Gardens is a great visit. We walked from Seahouses to Bamburgh and had delicious fish and chips at Pinnacles. We enjoyed the peace and quiet of Alnmouth South beach, beyond the Estuary. The Cook & Barker pub in the village served delicious food and provided great service. We look forward to a return visit.

Lovely property, it was so comfortable and just what we needed for a short break away. All the little extras like flowers, the welcome pack and toiletries were so appreciated. Thank you we will be back!

This was our second visit to Northumberland this Summer. We love the area and have walked Bamburgh, Alnmouth and Warkworth beaches. We have been blessed with great weather too, which is always a bonus. The Cook & Barker pub in the village was very welcoming and a great find. Fortunately Bertram’s in Warkworth re-opened on Saturday so we stopped for a small slice of cake and great hospitality. The house is in a great location to explore the local area, we will be back.

We have had a lovely week at Kirkstone Cottage, it was very comfortable. The walk from Dunstan Steads to Craster, via The Jolly Fisherman, was well worth it for the chips. Wooler golf course, which is 9 hole, is good for all the family and is dog friendly. Bamburgh and Holy Island are always worth a visit, thank you.

A return trip to Northumberland after many years. As beautiful as ever especially the beach, castle and village of Bamburgh, loved the riverside walk at Warkworth. The cottage is in a fantastic spot to visit Cragside, Alnmouth, Barter bookshop in Alnwick and coastal settings. The welcome pack for us and Monty had a great selection of treats. Comfy beds, well laid out cottage and very cosy, thank you.

We liked that the cottage had an enclosed garden, a washing machine and extra bathrooms. The welcome basket was helpful, as it had everything to make a cup of tea which was great for breakfast time.
Lovely location and very cosy cottage with everything you could need provided for. The Welcome basket for us and our dog was lovely, i.e. milk and welcome hamper along with the flowers make it an extra welcome. We looked for a pet friendly detached cottage with secure garden, hopefully with walks close by this met the criteria. A good location and the back garden was pleasant with a nice seating area to sit outside.
The bottle of wine, cake and milk bread in the hamper were all very welcoming. Very well equipped, the beds are exceptionally comfortable and we appreciated the quality bedding and towels. Thank you for great quality cottages keep it up, you have it just right.
Had another wonderful stay in the most beautiful county in England, and not a single drop of rain or snow = just sunny and dry days. Celebrated Christmas a few days early so we could all be together, and we all felt at home here. Enjoyed the walk from Foxton to Alnmouth via the beach. Christmas ‘light show’ at Alnwick Garden and the town’s decorations, Rothbury and walks from Craster to Dunstanburgh. The chef at The Coach Inn in Lesbury kindly delayed our meal whilst half our party made their way up via plane and train from Southampton – Edinburgh- Alnmouth following delays, whilst our dog enjoyed the warmth of the fire. The welcome pack was very well stocked, and we much appreciated all the gluten free goodies for our coeliac. Probably our last stay with Coquet Cottages as we are buying our own little place here as retirement starts to get a bit closer, but we’ve stayed in some fantastic houses over the past few years. Who needs to go abroad?!

We have had a wonderful week in your beautiful cottage. It has been the perfect location and there are lovely local walks for the dogs which has kept them happy too!
We have had some brilliant days out at Cragside, Holy Island, Alnwick Castle (flying broomsticks was great fun!), Warkworth and the beaches at Alnmouth and Newton by the Sea.
The Cook and Baker has been great ad they do the most amazing puddings! Thank you for the fantastic welcome hamper – the children loved their Easter eggs.

Great accommodation, very comfortable!

We needed a cottage to sleep six adults and the downstairs bedroom and shower were useful for a family member who has a mobility problem. Parking for three cars was also a bonus. We also liked the appearance of the cottage and where it was situated. The cottage is welcoming, comfortable and very well equipped. We felt at home as soon as we walked in.
The welcome basket was a lovely surprise and we enjoyed everything in it. We were pleased to find jam and marmalade because I had forgotten to bring any. Our holiday was very enjoyable and the cottage really made it for us. We would happily stay there again.
Kirkstone is a really beautiful place, and was so special for me and my Dad. Our dogs, Ted and Keith say a big thank you for their welcome pack and also for the extra touches! Such as the blanket and lovely cuddly bed.
Wow! What a beautiful spot. Have wanted to visit Northumberland for a long time and have not been disappointed. Kirkstone is superb. Everything we could possibly need and it was all beautifully furnished. Super welcome pack for us and the dogs also.
We loved Kirkstone and my wife is already planning to move in! We’ve had a great time, the cottage is beautiful and thank you for the very generous welcome pack. The beds were also so luxurious. Had a few lovely evening meals at Cook and Barker and The Northumberland Arms in Felton. Happy New Year and thank you again!
A lovely cottage in a great location- perfect for our half term break.
Had a really fabulous and relaxing stay. Loved the welcome pack, has to be the best we’ve ever received.
Fantastic cottage, home from home. We’ve had a marvellous week and when we’ve returned ‘home’ it’s been warm and cosy.
We’ve had a lovely holiday, great base for sight seeing and such a comfortable home. Thank you for everything.
Absolutely delightful cottage, so peaceful and away from it all.
Our second stay at Kirkstone. Felt comfortable and relaxed. We will be back. Thank you so much.

Thank you for providing such a wonderful place to stay. We have all really enjoyed your home from home. Thank you for all the generous Welcome Pack it has really made a difference – very thoughtful.
We’ve had a lovely Christmas break in a wonderful home from home. The treats were much appreciated by us and the dogs. Thank you for the Christmas tree and the other decorations, every room looked so lovely and welcoming.
The cottage is wonderful, a real home from home. Everything was perfect from the lovely welcome basket and a basket of treats for our dog. Thank you so much for a perfect stay.
First class. Loved our stay. Keep up the high standards. We all loved the cottage and have had a lovely Christmas here. Thank you.
When we arrived Kirkstone Cottage was warm, the lights were on and it was beautifully prepared. Home from home. The guest information folder was probably the most comprehensive we have ever seen. All the furniture, appliances and fittings were of a very good quality which made Kirkstone Cottage extremely comfortable. There was always hot water on demand and the heating was very controlable. The rear garden was fully enclosed which made it safe for Monty our dog. We have rented a large number of cottages over a 35 year period and Coquet Cottages have been the best company to deal with and have prepared the best cottages. Thank you and keep up your high standards. We especially apprecite the number of your properties that invite dogs. We take cottage holidays in order to take Monty on holiday with us. He loves Northumberland and Coquet Cottages and is already looking forward to visiting again in spring next year.
Absolutely idyllic. Super cottage, extremely well equipped. This one will take some beating! Dog friendly and beautifully kept. We have stayed in self catering accommodation all over England. Coquet Holidays company is a cut above the rest. May we take this opportunity to thank your extremely helpful staff and hope that your exacting standards for accommodation grows from strength to strength.
Lovely house, very well equipped, nice location very handy for touring everywhere. The welcome baskets were a lovely surprise and especially the all the dog treats. We’d certainly come back and stay at Kirkstone. The dog basket was a lovely touch. We had fresh flowers on the table which again added that special touch.
We stayed in Kirkstones – Newton-on-the-Moore during the second week of September 2017. Just the two of us and our dog. Home from home! On arrival we received a splendid hamper of luxury goodies and there was a hamper for our dog too which was very well received! A beautiful vase of cut flowers in the dining room and the cottage was beautifully warm.
During the evening the owner text to welcome us and check everything was to our satisfaction. We had a wonderful week at Kirkstones and the neighbours were nice too! We cannot recommend Kirkstones too highly.
Brilliant location, just right being quietly tucked away, but 5 minutes from town & main routes. Cosy cottage with everything you need. Weather surprisingly good. Thank you for the welcome pack, after a 7 hour journey this was a lovely touch & very kind. We’ve had a great relaxing week, thank you!
Lovely cosy cottage, everything thought of. Even all of the doggy things were very much appreciated. Sadly we had dreadful weather, but we weren’t expecting the Med! Hope to come back soon.
Wonderful cottage, felt like our ‘home from home’. Such attention to detail was much appreciated by us all. Loved the individual glass work in different areas of the cottage.
Excellent location for exploring beautiful Northumberland. The house exceeded all our expectations, super comfy beds & lovely welcome pack which included an Easter egg for our 5 year old (which he was super pleased with!)
Excellent house, great location, loved the welcome pack. Beds were comfy. House is beautifully decorated. would definitely recommend & will come again.
I would class our family as professional cottage dwellers. We have stayed all over Northumberland with Coquet Cottages. This cottage was booked as a last minute break and what an absolute gem we have found. Great welcome pack, exquisite furnishings, every gadget for the kitchen, very clean and comfortable. The proximity to The Cook and Barker is priceless and great beaches a short drive away – thank you!
The standard of the cottage is excellent. It’s position was good and the garden was great for our dog.
We liked the space downstairs, great for a family and the feel of luxury with homeliness!
Thank you so much for a wonderful week at Kirkstone. Beautifully equipped home-from-home in an excellent village location for exploring Northumberland. We have really enjoyed visiting Warkworth beach and village, Bamburgh, Seahouses, Alnwick and Morpeth. We will certainly return to this beautiful part of England!
Thank you for a very comfortable stay in this lovely, handy cottage. The welcome basket was really thoughtful! We have had a fun and relaxing time in Northumberland. The cottage was spotless and super comfortable which made for a perfect holiday. We hope to return!
It was lovely to have the lights and heating on when we arrived in the dark! Thank you for the welcome pack too. A delightful place to stay – well done on the conversion.
What a gorgeous, warm and welcoming cottage! Immaculately presented and very well equipped; the welcome hamper was superb. Jean (the owner) called us to check everything was ok which was very much appreciated. We have visited Northumberland previously, it is a fantastic part of the country with castles to die for! A lovely break and we will be back.
Thank you for a great stay – Kirkstone is lovely! The welcome pack was very much appreciated and we will definitely return to Northumberland soon!
We’ve had a wonderful week in Northumberland, it was our first visit and we can’t wait to come back! The house has been amazing, every detail thought of. Arriving after a long journey last week to the welcome pack was lovely. With 3 young children, a granny and a dog there has been something for everyone!
Enjoyable, comfortable and relaxing stay here – have stayed at various places with Coquet Cottages and this will be among our favourites. Well situated for Alnwick and Morpeth and of course the Cook and Barker! P.s – the dogs enjoyed their welcome pack!
As a last minute booking this cottage was amazing and very homely, welcoming and cosy. Thanks to Kat at Coquet Cottages for sorting this cottage such last minute! The welcome packs for ourselves and our dogs were very much appreciated after a long journey from North Wales. The little details were great touches. Our dogs settled in really well, which made it a perfect stay! We love Kirkstone and appreciate the contact from Jean to check we were ok and if we needed anything to not hesitate to contact her. It was an amazing stay and we are sorry we couldn’t stay longer!
What a lovely week we have had! Real home from home. So cosy, comfortable and very well equipped. When can we move in?! We have been visiting Northumberland now for the last 20 years and the natural beauty of the area never ceases to amaze us. Beautiful coastal walks and the weather has been kind to us. Dog friendly pubs are always a bonus too. We will certainly be returning to Northumberland. Not ready to go home after such a restful and pleasurable week.
We have had a great week in Northumberland and enjoyed our time in Kirkstone! There was everything we needed and more! Libby (age 5) enjoyed playing snakes and ladders! We enjoyed a lovely meal at the Cook and Barker. Thank you for helping our stay to be enjoyable!
A lovely place to stay, with everything we needed! This is a comfortable cottage that is finished to a high standard. The local pub does lovely meals as do many places near by. We had an excellent stay.
Kirkstone is a real home from home. A great base from which to explore our fabulous Northumberland coast lines. Kirkstone is by far one of the best cottages we have stayed in. The village pub is an absolute must – the food is stunning. We will be back!
This has been a wonderful stay! One of the best we have found and we’ve stayed in many places. The weather has been perfect, almost wall to wall sunshine. Northumberland is stunning. Our dog has loved the beaches, our friends live in Swarland and have four whippets so a lot of fun has been had! We will definitely be back.
We have really enjoyed our stay in this wonderful home. The standard of the property is superb and has a great feel to it and is very cosy. Thank yo ufor the welcome pack that was a really nice touch and very welcoming on a Friday night. Pub down the road is excellent (nice food) and we can also recommend the Northumberland Arms in Felton.
Lovely house is a great location – and thank you for the very nice welcome pack! We have enjoyed eating at Bertram’s in Warkworth, the Cook and Barker in Newton on the Moor and the cafe at Beadnell!
Lovely conversion of a former chapel. Very well kitted out & comfortable. The welcome basket was easily the best we’ve ever had. We loved the jams/marmalade, fresh bread, coffee, butter & wine. Also loved the bouquet of flowers.
