Guest Feedback for Lost Lobster Cottage
Our visitors’ book at Lost Lobster Cottage is great to read through over a cup of coffee or a glass of wine and provides recommendations on the best places to eat and visit, as well as some useful tips to benefit other guests. We also send Guest Surveys to all our guests after their holiday and some of their comments are listed here too.
Many guests have listed recommendations for the same lovely places, such as Warkworth Beach, Alnwick Castle and Gardens, Barter Books, Holy Island and the Farnes, but for the sake of avoiding repetition in this particular format, we have omitted these recommendations, but they can still be read in full in the visitors’ book in Lost Lobster Cottage.
Well it’s our last night in your cottage for now. The fire is roaring & Florence is glued to your very comfortable rug. We’ve had a fabulous time, great walks, ball throwing & good food. It’s been sunny & a little windy. We are so glad we’ve found a perfect place to stay. Thank you.
We’ve had a great week in your comfortable and well appointed cottage. It has a luxury feel and has everything needed for an enjoyable stay. We arrived Friday in preparation for our elopement on leap-year day to Gretna Green! So we had our honeymoon in lovely Northumberland, an area we love to visit! We enjoyed lunch several times at The Ship which never disappoints. We will be back.

Absolutely fabulous, just loved it. Great location and I loved the way the cottage had been decorated. It had everything we needed to be comfortable.
It is beautifully furnished, clean, cosy, very dog friendly with an enclosed garden in a great location. We loved everything about the cottage, the scones & sparkling wine. The best holiday company we have ever dealt with. Thank you.
Everything was absolutely perfect, as always. Thanks to you both for the lovely card and fizz – what a gorgeous touch that was! We are looking to come back later this year – there is nowhere else we would go in Northumberland!
This is a well appointed cottage with two bedrooms of a good size. There is a large kitchen well equipped. Nice living room with wood burner and wide screen smart telly. The interior decorating puts our house to shame with nice touches without being too seaside kitsch! The cottage is a nice walk to Embleton beach which has fantastic view to Dunstanburgh Castle and amazing light! Good walks to both Grey’s Inn (local) and The Ship in at Newton. We chose this property as it was Dog friendly and there was welcome treats for our beagle!
Another splendid visit to our favourite cottage! Thank you for a lovely relaxing break away from the everyday, or chance to experience luxurious comfort, beautiful dog walking experiences and an escape from reality! I’ve had a lovely Christmas Birthday. Thank you so much for all the thought. The Christmas tree is beautiful.
Well, weren’t we lucky, 3 dry and sunny days to enjoy a mini break in Beautiful Northumberland. Lost Lobster Cottages has been a real treat in every respect. Warm and comfortable. Especially the beds. Well equipped kitchen has meant we have eaten in 4 of the 4 nights – everything works as it should. A rare occurrence in our experience. Peg and Paddy have enjoyed each others company both outside on the fabulous beaches and snuggled up together in the kitchen over night – completely shattered! Thank you so much for providing this lovely accommodation.
Lovely relaxing break in a beautifully appointed and tastefully decorated cottage. The Weather was amazing so walks along the beach every day with Skye. Beautiful space – Thank you. Dog loved her welcome back!
We had a lovely stay. Good location. Dog friendly. We appreciated the consideration made for my gluten intolerance. Peace and quiet. Safe garden for dogs.
Beautiful, well equipped cottage. Lost lobster cottage was extremely comfortable in every aspect for both us and our dogs. Lovely area, near the coast, accommodated two dogs. Amazing to have a welcome basket for both us and the dogs. Both couldn’t have been nicer. Very comfortable and beautifully decorated.
We’ve had a wonderful week here. Only one wet outing to recall! Thank you for the lovely comfortable cottage! We love the decor, It’s a quiet location. And right on the doorstep of this fabulous coastline. Trips out Included: A walk to Craster past the lovely setting of Dunstanburgh Castle. A walk to Low Newton. Ship Inn for a brew and Crab Sandwich. A trip to Rothbury. Views across Cheviots and Coastline were breathtaking. And then a visit to Craigside house and tea rooms. A trip to Alnmouth and a walk up the beach to the Gold Club and returned along the Clifftop then to Barter Books. A 2nd trip to Craigside and a walk around the two lakes with a picnic by the lake. Evening meals were enjoyed at the Greys Inn and Dunstanburgh Castle Hotel. The Greys Inn is a good spot for Beer Lovers. Interesting locals. We will definitely be back as it is a great base to explore Northumberland.
Well what an amazing time we have all had. The cottage, weather and sightseeing were just fantastic. We have been up and out on the beach with the dogs watching the sunrise which was just spectacular, every morning. We’re all sad to be leaving and will be back soon.
This visit began with two days of rain so we had a quiet Saturday followed by a very wet walk on Sunday. Since then, Its been dry and sunny – Very lucky. Thank you Louise and Richard, I don’t need to say this but.. you know we’ll be back!!
We have had a fantastic week! This is our third stay with Coquet Cottages and definitely our favourite. The house is absolutely lovely and you can see how much effort has gone into making it a home from home. We visited our usual haunts – Embleton Bay, Craster, Bamburgh and Cragside (a must!) We also got the train from Berwick and visited Edinburgh for the day – which was a great day and so easy. We ate (and drank) at the local Greys Inn, The Ship at Low Newton, The Jolly Fisherman at Craster and The Joiners Arms at High Newton. All highly recommended. Thank you for a wonderful stay and the welcome hamper. We will be back and will recommend to others.
This is our first visit to your wonderful cottage. We have been coming to Embelton for 8 years and this is by far one of the best holiday cottage. It is truly is home from home. Plenty of lovely walks and lots of local places to eat. The parking worked well for our two cars. We will be back.
This is our third stay with Coquet Cottages and definitely the best! Lovely location to explore Northumberland. Just what we needed. We will certainly look to book Lost Lobster Cottage Next Year.
Fantastic location and comfortable property, our two dogs Sid & Reggie loved it and the garden! Did some great walks: Drove to Bamburgh and walked to Seahouses, cup of tea and then back for the best and biggest fish and chips at Victoria Hotel. Embleton to Craster tea at the dog friendly cafe. Embleton to Beanell and then back to the Ship Inn at Low Newton. Pubs/Food Musts: Greys Inn – great atmosphere and food, the dogs loved it. Joiners Arms – High Newton, fabulous food and very very dog friendly. The Ship Inn – Low Newton, classic but be aware it can be very busy. The Jolly Fisherman – Classic and weenjoyed a fabulous chowder presented in a cob!
Lovely cottage! Enjoyed our stay as always, great location and facilities for our dogs. The welcome basket was as good as the rest, It had everything you need.
Despite very variable weather we’ve had a great week. Managed generally to time our excursions to miss the worst of the rain. The dog loved the beaches and it was a treat to often have a beach to ourselves. The cottage is lovely and has everything one could really need. Also, thank you for the welcome pack of things – the best we’ve had anywhere I think. We had a grandstand view of the fireworks and were delighted that our puppy was very relaxed about it all! Had a brilliant roast dinner at the Grey’s Inn and It was fantastic value for money. Strongly recommended!

Our second visit to this beautiful cottage where everything is perfect. Loved the new lamps…and the blackbirds! The location is ideal – no need to drive with fab walks from the door: to Low Newton (The ship for a pint) and Craster (The Jolly Fisherman for lunch – Moules, crab soup and devilled crab toasts – all recommended) In the car to our usual haunts of Beadnell, Boulmer (to Alnmouth & back) Parked along Druridge Bay and walked along the beach and back beside the lakes. As always, a visit to Swallows smoke – house at Sea houses for fish, shellfish and kipper pate. Our poochies prefer to return to their beds at this home from home for a well earned snooze… After all they are 14 & 12 years old! So we spend our evenings cooking lovely meals in this excellent kitchen.
This is our 3rd Coquet Cottages & definitely the best! Lovely location to explore Northumberland. Just what we needed. We will certainly look to book lost lobster next year! Lots of Love.
Thank you for a perfect cottage in which to spend our week together. So comfortable and cosy and so nice to find a cottage that allows three dogs! We’ve enjoyed spectacular walks around here; Bamburgh and Warkworth as well as a boat trip to Holy Island on the only rainy day this week. Favourite eateries have been Bertram’s in Warkworth, Pinnacles for fish & chips in Sea houses and Barter Books for a fat sausage sandwich. Thank you for the welcome hamper; it was much appreciated, as was the doggie hamper. It’s a long way for us, from Devon, but we will be back…
We have had a lovely stay in Northumberland, made perfect by the gorgeous cottage. We loved getting out and exploring but also enjoyed coming back to the Lost Lobster Cottage as it was so comfortable and cosy. We visited Amble, Bamburgh, Craster, Alnwick as well as the local beach. Best meals Fish Shack in Amble and Potted Lobster in Bamburgh – dog friendly and delicious food. Great place to stay. Thankyou
Our first visit in this beautiful cottage and hopefully not the last. A real gem on a jewelled coastline. Thank you so much for the added extras for us and our dogs – they loved the treats and the sheepskin rugs! We have been staying in holiday cottages with dogs for many years now and this cottage is by far one of the best. Thank you again.
This was our second visit to this fabulous cottage. The quality of the furnishings/equipment is second to none and the space really works for us if the weather is not too good. The location is great too with no need to drive on some days and the garden is fully enclosed for small dogs. And the treats for the dogs were much appreciated. It’s one of the best Coquet cottages we’ve stayed in. I think the attention to detail and quality of everything makes it hard to beat. We’ve already booked our next visit and recommended it to friends

A lovely cottage, well appointed and Within walking distance to the beach. It appeared to be what I was looking for. The price was right and the lady who took the booking was very helpful. We enjoyed the wine and biscuits. It was useful to have milk in the fridge. It’s a charming, comfortable, well appointed cottage. It’s quiet and nicely located.

I’ve previously booked a holiday with Coquet Cottages. We are a party of three with three dogs, so it’s normally difficult to get a property to suit. As this cottage allows three dogs it is perfect for us! There was a good balance of essentials and the alcohol and cakes were lovely extras. We liked The local beer from the Welcome Basket. Comfortable beds and sofas, Very well equipped. We loved that our dogs were so welcomed. The garden was safe and spacious. They all settled quickly, which ensured a relaxing time for us.

Excellent cottage furnished to a high standard in a great location for walking and taking the dogs to the beach. Love the wonderful welcome pack. The scones were great and the basket for the dogs went down a treat. Have been to the area many times but first time at this cottage but everything went smoothly.
Very comfortable. Beautifully furnished and decorated. Kitchen well equipped. We slept well in comfy beds and quiet surroundings.
A delightful quirky cottage, and a wonderful location – a very special place and a brilliant find! Poppy in your office was really helpful on our arrival day. The high quality of customer care – thank you! The welcome basket was great, tea, coffee, jam, beer and couple, bottles of wine a loaf and milk and butter in the fridge – oh and the lovely scones and biscuits – it was really all lovely. We also ordered the breakfast hamper – wow local smoked kippers and bacon, eggs we had everything we needed for our first few days! Just being here and enjoying the cottage and garden. Watching cricket from the garden Saturday afternoon – glass in hand of course! The bed was a dream and some long hot soaks in the tub after long walks was very welcome!

Its always a moment of holding the breath before walking into holiday accommodation. How wonderful to be utterly charmed by everything in Lost Lobster Cottage. This is our first visit to the Northumberland coast and we have been overwhelmed with the beauty of this part of the country. While the south (our home) has battles with torrential rain we have enjoyed sunshine every day. Thank you Louise and Richard for your spirit of generosity in providing a home to such a high standard. The welcome pack was delicious. We leave with wonderful memories.

Another wonderful stay at this exceptional cottage. We have so much enjoyed our stay here, which has flown by. The weather has been amazing (quite different from the cool and cloudy days that were forecast) and we have had a glorious week doing all our favourite things. Thank you once again to Richard, Louise and Katie for everything – we’ve loved it all and very much hope to come back again soon.
John, Linda and Bertie (the border terrier), May 2019
The cottage was very well appointed with an enclosed garden . Open views from the patio but within easy walking distance of the beach and local pubs. All Coquet Cottages we have staying are good but this one is exceptional
Excellent property, very well appointed. Location near the coast, dog friendly, secure garden, with luxurious fixtures and fittings. Loved the hot cross buns and chocolate biscuits! Super comfy bed, bathroom was amazing and loved the kitchen.
The Graham Family, April 2019
We have had nothing but compliments on our fabulous first time stay in Northumberland. The cottage is without doubt one of the most cosy, stylish and well thought out we have ever stayed in. All the little touches and details really do get noticed and make you feel at home. We loved the scones and doggie hamper. All the quirky Lost Lobster references too! Beds were outstandingly comfortable and the log burner a winner. We loved Embleton and the beach here. Perfect position to explore Northumberland. Had a great meal at The Greys Inn & The Jolly Fisherman and enjoyed a memorable day out to Lindisfarne and Bamburgh. Amble is definitely worth a trip too and we will be visiting Alnwick and Druridge Bay on our way home today. One of the highlights of our week was braving the alarm clock and heading down to Embleton beach for sunrise by the castle. Truly spectacular and would recommend highly. Thanks again for a wonderful stay. PS It was great not to have to bring bottles of shampoo and shaver gel etc.
Particularly dog friendly which is such a treat. We felt that our dog was positively welcomed rather than just tolerated. All good but we particularly appreciated the doggy welcome basket. Makes packing a bit easier if we don’t have to lug bowls, towels, poo bags as well. Very clean, stylish and well equipped. We had everything we needed. The bathroom was lovely and warm with the underfloor heating and towel rail – always nice to be able to dry towels effectively. Can’t think of anything we would have changed. We loved that the owners provided a fleece for our dog to lie by the fire. A really thoughtful welcoming gesture. In other cottages we’ve visited, dogs are confined to utility rooms and kitchens which doesn’t suit us. Our eleven year old well behaved rescue dog just wants to be with us and it was lovely being able to chill out together by the fire.
Our 7th stay with Coquet Cottages and we always try and find somewhere different. This time we found such a gem of a cottage, in a perfect location near the beach. The weather wasn’t wonderful, we did have some sleat, snow and a thunderstorm but stayed warm and snug at Lost Lobster! We will definitely come back next year to Northumberland and will be booking Lost Lobster again if not already booked up! You have done a fab job of the renovation and all in great keeping with the cottage. Great base, great cottage, great location.
Bev & Andrew, April 2019
This is a gem of a cottage! Stylish, immaculate, well-equipped, fantastic kitchen/diner, superb bathroom and everything comfortable – a home from home. The enclosed garden meant our 3 daschunds could play safely outside. Their welcome doggie basket was a wonderful touch. Thank you so much! Richard and Louise have put so much work into Lobster Cottage not ‘lost’ but a rare ‘find’! Super impressed with the guest information folder too! We’ve done many of the walks already mentioned. The beaches are brilliant here if you visit Druridge Bay Country Park (cafe, toilet facilities and parking) a path leads from the car park straight onto the dunes. Also took a turn out of the courtyard and then a dead end left turn to Dunstan Steads. At the end of the road there is parking for a few cars and you can be a the beach in minutes or take the footpath to Dunstanburgh Castle. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Thank you so much. Will highly recommend.
Chris & Lloyd (Zak, Amber and Alys the dogs)
Home from home. Stylish, immaculate, well- equipped, comfortable with excellent kitchen and bathroom, and secure garden. Loved it!Really dog-friendly. First priority is a secure garden. Then cleanliness and modern facilities. A wooden or tiled floor in kitchen diner is ideal. The lobby was a brilliant bonus. The doggie welcome pack much appreciated. Location ideal for the coast. The customer service from Coquet holidays was excellent. Clear instructions and photos helped us find a tricky location. The timing of the emails received was just right. The phone call from housekeeping just after arrival to check if everything okay was excellent.
The Clarks, March 2019
Excellent in every way. Can’t fault this cottage. We will return. Extremely dog friendly. Good location and very well kept property. High standard of care and attention to detail to make you feel welcome.
We have stayed at a number of different Coquet Cottages over the years and this has been the best! It’s beautifully decorated and is extremely homely. The welcome pack for us and our dog are always a lovely touch. We will definitely be returning later this year.
One of the best holiday cottages we’ve stopped in. We’ll definitely book it again for next year. Weather’s been kind to us all week. Visited all the beaches in the area – Embleton, Bamburgh, High and Low Newton.
We’ve had some lovely lunches in The Ship Inn, The Jolly Fisherman, The Lord Crewe and Bamburgh Castle Hotel (all dog friendly).
Thank you to the owners for the welcome pack and special touches for our daughter’s 20th birthday – she thoroughly enjoyed her holiday and birthday.
