Our visitors’ book at The Bridge Barn is great to read through over a cup of coffee or a glass of wine and provide a wealth of recommendations on the best places to eat and visit, as well as some useful tips to benefit other guests. We also send Guest Surveys to all our guests after their holiday and some of their comments are listed here too.
Many guests have listed recommendations for the same lovely places, such as Warkworth Beach, Alnwick Castle and Gardens, Barter Books, Holy Island and the Farnes, but for the sake of avoiding repetition in this particular format, we have omitted these recommendations, but they can still be read in full in the visitors’ books in The Bridge Barn.
We are regulars to Warkworth and as usual it has been a fantastic week. We enjoyed the weather, walks, views, food and the company. We think the Masons Arms keeps getting better and better each time we visit, and the staff are lovely. It is also dog friendly. Perfect accommodation we will be back.
We’ve had a super week. The cottage and its location is lovely. We took Cindy our dog on a daily walk to the beach, which was fabulous. A rainy walk to Dunstanburgh and a wet picnic at the castle. Another picnic, this time a sunny one at Cragside. We had a potter round Holy Island. It was all lovely, we have been coming to Northumberland for holidays since Betsy was 2 years old, now she is 12, we have lots of precious memories here. We stopped off at Bertrams for breakfast before we set off home.
A wonderful week, it was so lovely to be in a new place with new walks and views after the past year of lockdown. This is our first Coquet Cottage experience and will definitely use them again. We had everything we needed and were located in a great location. Waked along sections of the coastal path and saw dolphins twice. Our favourites were-Alnmouth beach which had a very sweet village, Craster (The Jolly Fisherman) and lovely meals in Warkworth. Bertram’s The Masons Arms. If you want to go fishing call James at Chasing Fins which made my birthday extra special. Thank you for a fabulous week, we will be back.
We got here the week before the so called ‘freedom day’
according to the local restaurants. If you are reading this it is probably too late to say book ahead. Excellent restaurants in Amble Jaspers and Sea and Soil not just for the food but the feel of the places were very relaxed, chilled and friendly. We had a fantastic week here, the beaches are stunning, one of our favourites was Warkworth. Im sure you will all love the area if you are due to come. Thank you for our glorious holiday in your lovely cottage, and stunning village.
This is our first trip to Northumberland and it is definitely worth the drive. The beaches are fantastic, so quiet and beautiful. We also did some paddle boarding on the river, we thought having this right on the doorstep was amazing. We ate out at The Masons Arms over the road, the pulled pork burger was the best. We also ate out at The Joly Fisherman and the Old Boathouse which did not disappoint, but booking is essential. We took a boat trip for Amble to see the Puffin sand seals and we also saw some seals on Holy Island. Knowing the tide times is important. The weather forecast was less important as Warkworth has its own little micro climate, it has been lovely all week. Fantastic stay, thank you and we will be back.
We have fallen in love with the Northumberland coast, Embleton beach and Dunstanburgh Castle we our favourites. The children have enjoyed body boarding at Bamburgh and paddle boarding on the river. It was a real treat to have some welcome goodies. Thank you, everyone has been so friendly and we will be back.
To the Brown family and Coquet Cottages, we cant thankyou enough for our amazing holiday in your beautiful Bridge Barn, as front line NHS Covid nurse, I was very generously gifted this stay by the Brown family as part of Operation Recuperation. My 3 year old daughter Lucy, my husband and I have loved our relaxing time in Warkworth. We have enjoyed the gorgeous Northumberland coast. We have done some lovely walks, visited Able, Alnwick and thoroughly recommend a visit to Morwick Ice Cream Parlour for their fantastic ice cream. Thank you so much, I will never forget the kindness and generosity at such a stressful and difficult time. We hope to return soon. Stay safe and lots of love.
Slightly mixed weather but still some lovely days and will miss the views upstairs. We did lots of walks down at the beach and along the coats at Craster and Bamburgh. We would advise booking any meals as a lot of the places were already booked in advance. Bertram’s for dinner was very good and cant recommend the Lemon and Courgette cake enough. We brought crab from the quay in Amble which had a lovely fresh taste. Scotts of Alnmouth was great. There is also a good food hall on the outskirts of Alnwick town centre. We visited Howick Gardens and would highly recommend the place as it had wild but manicured gardens and we would advise to bring a picnic. There was lots of space quiet spots. The Rose Gardens are stunning. Thanks for a lovely stay as always.
We have had a fantastic time here and have been extremely lucky with the weather. The Bridge Barn is very comfortable and we have spent a lovely few evenings cooking and looking out at the castle. We have walked several different parts of the coast, had a day in the Cheviots and visited several castles. Dinner at The Old Boathouse in Amble was excellent and ice creams from the chocolate shop in the village, was always a welcome treat after our days out. Walking on Warkworth beach in a sunny evening was one of our highlights or running along the river in the morning. Thank you for a lovely stay.
How lovely to be out and about again after such a long, dark lockdown. This is our 4th stay in Warkworth and a ‘Coquet’ holiday rental, as usual we were not disappointed. This is a lovely property and we felt very at home here. Lucky with the weather again(it has been good every time we have visited the area) We spent our time walking with our dogs along the beach and the river. We visited Alnmouth and Amble and were so pleased to see local businesses thriving. We had a beautiful evening tonight and enjoyed a Bertram’s takeaway in the comfort of our own lovely garden. We are sad to be leaving tomorrow but will be returning sooner rather than later.
We had a lovely stay and visited all of our favourite beaches. We has some great meals at The Fish Shack in Amble and at The New Whitting House restaurant in Alnmouth. We enjoyed ourselves as always in beautiful Northumberland.
A wonderful Sunny break with lots of fresh air after the winter lockdown, which is just what the doctor ordered. It was a comfortable stay thank you! We love Northumberland! We recommend the walk from Bamburgh Castle to Budle Bay, Craster to Dunstanburgh and then onto Embleton Bay. Alnmouth beach was also enjoyable, as we has yummy kippers from the grocers/deli and also from Craster. We recommend the gluten free fish and chop shop in Amble (The Queens Plaice) and ice creams at the harbour. We will be back! Thank you.
The Blochs April 2021
Sleeps 4 people, good location and lovely finishing touches. Very generous welcome basket, loved that there were things for both the adults and the kids – really thoughtful. Excellent communal living space, we could all be together comfortably in one room. Beautiful cottage, we had everything we needed and more! Excellent customer service, you were in touch with me regularly (not that we needed anything). Very much felt that if there had been any problems, they would have been resolved quickly.
Nicola October 2020
We have had a wonderful week in Northumberland, the weather has been perfect! Highlights of our trip (food related) – fish, chips and lobster at The Old Boathouse, Amble and Sunday lunch at The Warkworth House Hotel. The beaches are gorgeous for walking, loved the Craster to Dunstanburgh Castle circular walk and Holy Island. Thank you Bridge Barn for the perfect base to explore!
Emily & Chris October 2020
Lovely stay and very relaxed. We wanted for nothing during our stay and there was easy access to some lovely dog walks. We would highly recommend Miles (dog sitter), our girls felt relaxed the moment they met him. We had a great stay and will be recommending.
Claire & Sean August 2020
Our first time to Warkworth, we’ll definitely be back to try paddle boarding. We had a lovely evening on the beach and had a nice takeaway pizza from The Mason’s Arms. We went to the Joiner’s Arms in Newton by the Sea which is a lovely pub and as always we had a gorgeous walk on Bamburgh beach. Lovely barn with a gorgeous interior.
The Brown Family August 2020
Thanks for a lovely stay. Comfortable house, great living space, well equipped kitchen. Visited Druridge Country Park with its fab beach (our kids favourite, good walks around the lake too). Thanks for the great hamper – super local produce!
The Hughes Family August 2020
We have had a lovely stay at The Bridge Barn. We enjoyed a lovely walk by the river to Alnmouth where we saw salmon leaping which is something that we have never seen before, it was amazing! We would like to thank Coquet Cottages for the incredible service. Upon arrival we were greeted with a hamper full of goodies, the scones were delicious! Bridge Barn is beautifully decorated and has an amazing view of Warkworth Castle, we definitely recommend and can’t wait to come back soon. Thank you for the relaxing break, we look forward to coming back.
Purnell Family July 2020
Lovely little house which was very well equipped and in a perfect location in central Warkworth. The dog treats were appreciated!
Belinda September 2020
Loved it, My family use Coquet Cottages quite often. Dog friendly, great location, availability, décor. We loved the special touches like beer and wine!! And especially the dog welcome basket. We liked the location.
Looked cosy and comfortable and the price was good. Having a welcome basket was a bonus, Fresh bread. All round home from home and dog friendly.
We have enjoyed our stay at The Bridge Barn, regular visitors to Warkworth but never had such a view of the castle from our cottage windows. It’s been a relaxed visit and found the living space very calming. Sadly it was our first visit to Warkworth without our greyhound Violet, she would have liked it here. We visited friends near Wooler and had food at the Italian called ‘Milan’ would recommend. Also Joiners Arms at Newton is worth the drive out. These places you will need to book. PS. Jamie Scott the Hermitage Inn was closed for a refurb so be sure to go for tea time pints when you stay here.
We’ve really enjoyed our stay in your beautiful barn. It’s well equipped and as always, It’s the small things that make the difference, flowers, scones and a lovely hamper on arrival.
Phillipa & Ali, a huge thank you for the lovely artwork and other generous goodies for Christmas. Barney loved all his treats too. As a fledgling print maker I really loved your choice of artwork at The Bridge Barn. We have been blessed with fantastic weather over the festive period and all three of us have thoroughly enjoyed exploring the amazing coastline. This has been a fantastic base.
We have had a fabulous time here in beautiful Northumberland, our 2nd time here at Bridge Barn. Wow, its so gorgeous!! It’s great to find this area, so dog friendly too, our Lab ‘Sid’ feels like a celebrity! Bamburgh Castle now allows dogs on a lead into the grounds too. We’re already planning to return next year to Warkworth.
We have had a lovely week at Bridge Barn, our dog Ruby had great walks on the beach. Wonderful area and plenty to do. The beach at Druridge Bay is well worth a visit also. Lovely candle shop in Alnwick. Notes of Northumberland do hand poured candles, very nice.
Really enjoyed our week in Warkworth – lots of walking, eating and drinking. We normally visit this area once a year but never stayed in Warkworth before. Fabulous walks by the river and to the beach. Eddie (the dog, not the husbad!) couldn’t wait to get in the river and the sea. Think we have completely warn him out. Ate at The Warkworth House Hotel twice and would definitely recommend also went to THe Northumberland Arms at Felton – short drive and should book – food is fabulous. Tea & cake at Bertram’s also a must. Thank you for allowing us to stay at The Bridge Barn.
What an amazing week weather-wise! Hot Hot Hot! Lucky the bedrooms downstairs keep nice and cool and the dog has been in the sea all week to cool down (and the kids). The salmon have been leaping in the river all week catching flies and the herons have been catching the salmon! Seals also in the river this week again. Coquet Shorebase Trust does a fabulous night time kayak river safari up the river where you can see all the wildlife – we missed it this week due to tides but the next one is around the 9th/10th August 2019 so worth giving them a call. Also paddle boarding with Amble Northside Surf Schoool.
The Hermitage re-fit has done it a world of good – still a brewery owned pub so not as good range of ales etc as others (The Ship at Newton/Jolly Fisherman etc) and basic pub grub but they have updated the menu. The summer menu in The Mason’s Arms and the wood fired pizza oven and garden area is great – pizzas, nachos etc. We had a good meal at Seal & Soil in Amble, and the best meal is always at our favourite – The Old Boat House in Amble where Jemima has her favourite half lobster and chips, the rest of us go for specials board full of fish dishes. Book early through as they are always full. Even though it is the summer holidays, the beaches have still been peaceful – lots of good walks at Warkworth, Sugar Sands along to Craster, Embleton along to Newton etc. Enjoy!
Really enjoyed our long weekend in Warkworth. Loved the barn, my wife is obsessed with the colour scheme, so thank you for the inspiration! Loved our morning dog walks on the beach and he other gems the Northumberland Coast has to offer. I’d recommend a cheeky kipper in Craster.
We have had a lovely stay at The Bridge Barn. It is so well equipped and comfortable with everything we needed for our stay. The dogs have had wonderful walks on it’s beautiful beaches and we enjoyed them too! We had a nice meal at The Fish Shack and can also recommend the deli in Berwick. Warkworth is so Pretty and a great base. Thank you so much for the doggy hamper and the welcome hamper for us, so thoughtful of you to include Easter treats! We’d love to come back again.
The Bridge Barn was lovely and very relaxing. Love the new outside furniture and the private garden. The welcome basket came with fresh bread, cake and beer for the other half! Really enjoyed the cosy fire and the views from the castle in the evening.
Really really impressed by Coquet Cottages. So much better customer service than any holiday cottage rental I’ve ever done before. The most crazily comprehensive visitor information too which was really helpful and shows how much you know your patch and visitors. Will definitely recommend you.
We felt a great deal of thought and care has been put into providing guests with a pleasurable experience.
Booking with Coquet Cottages is always easy and you know that you will get personal and thorough service from Julie and others in the office.
As ever, the quality of accommodation and service offered by Coquet Cottages clearly surpasses all others. For those of us keen to regularly visit the area, I don’t know what we’d do without them!
Dear Philippa and Ali, we stayed for 3 nights in October – and as I said on the phone when you called – OMG the Barn is gorgeous! By far the nicest place we have ever stayed at in Northumbria! Warkworth itself is gorgeous also. The beach goes on for miles! Already booked to come again!
We had a wonderful stay at The Bridge Barn, a beautiful cottage. All the little extras make it a real bolthole. Thanks for the fresh flowers! We particularly enjoyed Barter Books in Alnwick – great food by open fires, not what you would expect in a bookshop. Also great food at the Coach Inn at Lesbury and had a nice meal at Zecca in Amble. Michelle the babysitter was fantastic!
Have had a lovely mid-week break. So much to see and do in this beautiful part of England. Lots of choice for good eating, can recommend The Treehouse of Alnwick Gardens but only open Thursday, Friday and Saturday for evening meals, so it’s best to book. Will have to come back as there is still so much that we missed.
Thank you so much for a wonderful stay – cottage and local facilities are all lovely! This was a thoroughly relaxing weekend away – would love to come back and visit again sometime!
The cottage was to the usual high standard, the children liked the bunk beds and that the bedrooms were down stairs. The information provided by Coquet Cottages is always punctual and efficient.
Lovely cosy cottage. Children loved the bunk beds but I really enjoyed the cosy stove (yes used it in July!) and wonderful views of the castle from the chair! Excellent selection of toys, DVD’s, music on iPod, cookery books – definitely something for everyone here. Coquet Cottages are first class from start to finish – I would always trust their organisation and judgement for a great cottage holiday. The welcome pack a lovely idea.
The view from the dining room table of the Castle was amazing. The first time we have booked with yourselves but the whole experience was great, so it hopefully wont be the last.
The location of Bridge Barn in Warkworth and the layout of the cottage was excellent. The information file was exceptionally comprehensive and valuable.
I found everyone helpful at Coquet Cottages offering helpful advice when needed. The cottage itself was lovely. We feel very lucky to have stayed at Bridge Barn.
This was our first visit to Northumberland and Warkworth and thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience. Everyone was friendly and hospitable to the children, especially the Masons Arms and the Hermitage when we went out for evening meals. The cottage was fantastic and we are already planning our next holiday to come back to Bridge Barn!
The decor of The Bridge Barn was far superior to any cottage we have booked before and it had everything you could possibly think of. We loved the novelty of having the living area upstairs, and particularly loved the view of Warkworth Castle.
We loved the luxurious and quality surroundings, the ease of booking and information sheets about days out. It was also an important touch to us that the owner rang. We like the boutique, top end of the market style afforded by Coquet Cottages and that you can take a dog.
A telephone call from the owner, Philippa, was a nice touch and of course the welcome pack is always appreciated. Continue to maintain your very high standards and you can be assured of a full order book. We will certainly return.
We thought the layout of the cottage was designed well. The children loved the fact the house was up side down. The main element for us as a family was the open living area that included the kitchen, dining area and lounge, with the view of the castle.
The cottage was very well appointed, clean and comfortable. The location was excellent and neighbours very friendly. We are on our third visit with Coquet and have come to know the standards set. It is a real bonus to be able to bring our dogs with us to such well appointed accommodation.
The cottage was perfect – brilliantly situated and beautifully furnished. The whole experience was both friendly and professional.
A beautiful cottage. This is our 4th visit to Warkworth and by far the nicest cottage. The view from the lounge window is breathtaking, the decor – Farrow and Ball colour scheme – is superb, we loved everything!
We had a wonderful supper last night with some locally caught lobster and the amazing view of the castle. It was all rather perfect! The beaches here are the best in the country and Rufus has had some super walks. We’ll definitely be back, hopefully for a bit longer next time. Thank you for a lovely stay.
This has been a great base for our holiday and we’ve been very lucky with the weather. You’ve thought of everything at The Bridge Barn – we’ll miss the view from the dining table.
Superb. One of the best cottages we have stayed in (and we’ve had many). You must try Holy Island – it’s magical. We love this place and will be back shortly.
A fantastic week in a beautiful cottage in a perfect location. The beaches are beautiful and lots of shells will be accompanying us home! All in all a lovely, relaxing week, we look forward to our next visit. A very big thank you!
Completely fallen in love with Northumberland. Warkworth is a fabulous base for exploring from, and what can we say about the cottage! Fab-u-lous! Home from home and couldn’t have wanted for anything more.
Like everyone before us, we too have found Northumberland to be exceptionally special. Wonderful scenery, fabulously empty beaches and for the best part, excellent food and great service. The cottage has been home from home and that makes a real difference during inclement weather, knowing you have somewhere cosy and comfortable to return to!
The Bridge Barn is exactly as described and more than met expectations. It is beautifully peaceful and yet a short walk or drive to lovely shops, pubs, etc. The castle (from the window) is amazing! The Bridge Barn is such a unique and peculiar property.
Bridge Barn is a cosy and welcoming cottage and we have really enjoyed our stay here. Our girls particularly enjoyed the bunk beds and are quite sad to leave. Thank you for catering so well for families as the games, books and DVD’s went down a storm.
We just wanted to say thank you for a magical (or as our son would say “epic”) holiday. The Barn is utterly delightful, cosy and contemporary (we are especially impressed with the corkscrew!!)… such thoughtful touches for kids and parents alike – you guys know what makes a holiday! It will be hard to leave! In the words of Arnold Schwarzenegger… we’ll be back!
Had a fantastic week here in this lovely barn. Have been to Northumberland a number of times but never to Warkworth which we all loved. The girls loved the barn and all the toys, books and games that came with it.
A lovely house in the best possible location. We went to Lindisfarne, it was wonderful – we did the island walk and saw basking seals.
We have stayed in many holiday cottages over the years but this one has to be one of the best! The flowers and welcome pack just one of the many lovely touches making the week so special.
The Bridge Barn was a perfect little escape for our wedding/honeymoon weekend. We were welcomed with champagne, wedding tea and rose petals, with a lovely chocolate heart from Cabosse. Thank you all for your help and kind little touches which made all the difference.
Ditto everyone else’s comments re. the barn and view and wouldn’t expect anything else from Coquet Cottages, which I recommend to everyone, although it may be to my detriment as they are now pretty much booked up months in advance!
We have had a wonderful week in this gorgeous ‘barn’. Very well equipped, so cosy we did not want to go out! Lots of thought has gone into everything here!
What a wonderful cottage in a lovely village. Locals were very friendly. We went to a movie being shown at the Memorial Hall and everyone made us feel very welcome. The personal touches are a joy. We had a lovely time and would recommend The Bridge Barn and Coquet Cottages to all.
Thank you for making us feel welcome at this lovely cottage. Village is very dog friendly which made meals out very easy and helped us enjoy our visit even more. Visitors book very helpful when deciding where to visit. Autumn colours really beautiful wherever we went. We will certainly return.
We always have a pre-Christmas break and the North East has been a much coveted destination for ages so we decided to make the Bridge Barn our base to explore. What a fantastic choice! A beautifully equipped home from home. I could go home and redecorate all over again.
We’ve had an excellent New Year’s Stay in Warkworth. Bridge Barn has been absolutely perfect and a really cosy home from home. Stunning scenery. Many thanks.
The Bridge Barn ticked all the boxes for us. Fabulous cottage, cosy and warm, walking distance to pubs and food (with rum babas from Cabosse super!) Another great experience from Coquet Cottages. Thank you.
Philippa and Ali – Thank you for letting us stay in your fantastic barn. We were brought up in the area and came back with our children to visit family and friends. This is the best accommodation we have ever stayed in – children loved the toys and the bunk beds. We will definitely be back. We miss the view!
A really wonderful stay at your beautiful property. We have enjoyed a very relaxing break and have found the home comforts and personal touches have made our stay really enjoyable.
Dear Ali and Philippa. Now we know why you fell in love with this cottage, Warkworth and Northumberland. You have added such comfort and luxury and we have so enjoyed being here. Particular highlights for us were golf at Dunstanburgh, Holy Island, Craster kippers, Howick Gardens and of course, being here when Warkworth Castle wears her daffodils.
It’s not often that following browsing the internet, the place you arrive at is actually better than the picture portrayed but this surely is. This was the first family break we have had together in Northumberland and it was made more special by the lovely home you have. We will be back again, thanks for everything.
We have fallen in love with Warkworth and will be back to the Bridge Barn to enjoy it’s luxurious comfort and stunning views.
This is our sixth visit to Warkworth and we have never been disappointed. The Barn is a lovely, comfy place to stay and we’ll certainly return.
Superb house – beautifully furnished and equipped and SO clean. Have had an exceptional holiday. Thanks too to Julie at Coquet Cottages for all her help and time. This has been so good and has indeed exceeded ALL my expectations I have booked again! Grandchildren are delighted!
We have had a great five days in this fantastic conversion, really love the decor and layout. Fantastic walking to be done along the coastal path in both directions. Overall a great 5 days – wish we could have stayed longer to explore further afield. Thanks!
Wow! What a lovely cottage. We have had a great week. This is our 5th time in Warkworth and we love it here so much we hope to return next year. Thank you again.
Beautiful cottage, beautiful village, beautiful beach. Thank you we had a wonderful holiday. Had a lovely lunch at The Jolly Fisherman in Craster – even spotted Robson Green in the restaurant!
We’ve had a great time here. The cottage is great and has everything and is a real home from home. We will be back and soon.
Thank you for another lovely stay at The Bridge barn. Whilst the weather has been ‘challenging’ at times, it was nothing that some waterproofs and wellies couldn’t fix. It was a pleasure to return to a warm, cosy cottage.
We have really enjoyed our stay here. The cottage is warm, comfortable, well equipped and well positioned for a winter’s holiday. We’ve walked up and down the coast, visited Alnwick and have eaten at the excellent ‘The Old Boathouse’ restaurant at Amble. The Star Wars DVD box set allowed us to spend the evenings doing some intensive revision prior to watching the latest film! Thanks for the welcome pack as well. We’ll recommend this place to our friends.
