Guest Feedback for The Old Manse
Our visitors’ book at The Old Manse is great to read through over a cup of coffee or a glass of wine and provide a wealth of recommendations on the best places to eat and visit, as well as some useful tips to benefit other guests. We also send Guest Surveys to all our guests after their holiday and some of their comments are listed here too.
Many guests have listed recommendations for the same lovely places, such as Warkworth Beach, Alnwick Castle and Gardens, Barter Books, Holy Island and the Farnes, but for the sake of avoiding repetition in this particular format, we have omitted these recommendations, but they can still be read in full in the visitors’ books in The Old Manse.
There were a variety of spaces to meet up or escape to at this property. The conservatory was lovely. We appreciated the en-suites and comfy beds. We enjoyed the BBQ house, which was a novelty and we spent a nice evening there. The gas BBQ was a bonus. We also loved the garden. There was a lovely beach nearby and found that the property was Well equipped with good quality items.
Wonderful family orientated property, which was full of character and charm. The owner was very attentive to ensure our stay went smoothly and felt special.
What a beautiful house! So spacious and very well equipped. Beds were super comfy, the bathrooms were amazing. The garden and BBQ hut were perfect. We absolutely loved our stay. Wow – what a welcome basket. Scones, Prosecco, biscuits, sweets – I’ve never seen a welcome basket like it.
Thank you very much for a lovely stay. The house is very well equipped, very peaceful and had a lovely garden. There is so much to see and do in the area.
We have enjoyed a lovely stay, the house was well equipped and very welcoming. The beds are very comfy and he garden is a wonderful space, perfect for two dogs and our little person to run about. Thank you to David for the courtesy call and the nice touches on arrival. It is perfect for a large multi-generational group and we’d definitely recommend it. Thank you.
We had a wonderful stay. The Old Manse is beautiful with stunning gardens, lovely patio areas, spacious accommodation which is impressing well equipped. Excellent host who answered queries quickly and was able to advise about attractions all of which were excellent. Lovely home which we would recommend to others. Thank you.
What a beautiful house! So spacious and very well equipped. Beds were super comfy. Bathrooms amazing. The garden and BBQ hut were perfect. We absolutely loved our stay.
The Old Manse has a cosy sitting room, nice (enclosed) garden, BBQ hut, within walking distance from town and beach. The Old Manse was a great place to stay and we loved exploring Northumberland. All my dealings with Coquet Cottages were great – very friendly and helpful staff. It may be a while before we come back to Northumberland, but when we do, will definitely look up Coquet Cottages again.
As always lovely accommodation, easy to locate, easy reach to the beach. It has plenty of rooms to escape too, loved the conservatory. Liked the dining room, had lots of puzzles and games.
Great property and location for a family holiday. Property had been very well cleaned and prepared. It has a large garden, all rooms are en-suite and its within walking distance of the beach.
Have just returned from spending a week in this lovely property. We were a party of 9 of mixed ages, old & young. On arrival the house was warm & cosy with the wood burning stove already set to light which we did! In the kitchen we found the most amazing & luxurious welcome hamper filled with local bread, cake, scones etc also in the fridge, butter, milk, chocolates & Prosecco! the best we have experienced and very very much appreciated by all. Onto the property itself, all five bedrooms are on-suite with good quality bedding & very comfy beds. The living room is cosy with ample seating, dining room large with it’s wood burning stove was great for meals & gathering round the table of a night for games. Kitchen was well laid out & equipped with a great utility room just off it. The wrap round conservatory was really nice but as it was cold we only managed one lunch it on a nice sunny day, it would be fantastic in the summer months. We used the Kota one evening to toast marshmallows which was great fun, again would be fab in the warmer months. We had one dog with us and were amazed that even she was well catered for too with a doggy welcome pack of treats, blanket, drying towel etc The house is in walking distance to the Main Street which has a Co-op, bakery, newsagent & choice of restaurants (Indian x 2, Fish & Chip shops x 3, we preferred Neptune’s lol) great walks along Bamburgh beach, again only minutes from the house. We’ve been to Seahouses many times over the last ten years or so and this by far has been the the best property we have had the pleasure to stay in, a credit to the owners David & Caroline who have lovingly renovated this beautiful property. I highly recommend booking with Coquet Cottages too, this was the second time I had booked with them and the process was smooth & friendly with excellent communication throughout. Thanks for a great holiday!
The Old Manse is lovely and cosy, really well appointed, and is absolutely perfect for couples as all rooms are en-suite. Despite being on the edge of town, It’s really quiet and has great access to dog walking paths and the fabulous beach. Lots of eateries in Seahouses, we had a great meal at St Aidan’s Bistro and also loved the Apple Inn at Lucker. (and they take bookings with dogs) We couldn’t fault this property and would highly recommend it.
Really lovely stay at The Old Manse, you can tell a lot of thought has been put into this property for its guests. Really appreciated the spread of welcoming gifts and the layout and en-suite to every room made for a perfectly relaxed break. Great Location, setting areas with fires and en-suites/bedroom layouts. The welcome hamper was full of lovely treats!
The magnum of prosecco was a lovely touch. It’s an extremely well stocked house, dishwasher tabs, toilet rolls and especially logs! The Christmas decorations were a really lovely touch too! We loved the BBQ hut too! We had a wonderful stay – thank you!
An absolutely fantastic few days. This house is lovely, perfect for our two young families. We will be back.

A very successful stay. Really appreciated all the welcome hamper, plus all the other extras – cheese scones ‘to die for’ – Thank you for a lovely holiday at The Old Manse.
Excellent house!! Wonderful welcome pack – way beyond expectations, especially wit cleaning materials provided. Very helpful. Lots of garden toys, DVDS, games ect. Lovely location near to the beach and Seahouses and the BBQ hut garden in general was fabulous. Thanks, what a place for a get together with friends – all 3 families have had a great time. Maybe/hopefully we will be back!
Lovely homely house for the 9 of us. We were walking the Northumbrian coast path all week but also visited Lindisfarne and Bamburgh. – Great places. Lewis Fish & Chips were fab. Beds very comfortable and plenty of room to sit in. Really well equipped. Thanks very much.
We had a fantastic family gathering in your very comfortable house. Three generations, nine people and two dogs. We loved Your comfy beds, your big garden, sitting in the conservatory, walking on the beaches – Beadnell has easy access and good firm sand for the less able. Running fox at Shilbottle for afternoon tea. Seahouses golf club for lunch with new and great friendly service. Barter Books at Alnwick. Walking by the river with great views of the castle at Alnwick. Easy access over the road for walks into town of the beach. Thank you for the welcome hamper too.
Spending a family weekend celebrating mams 80th and my 50th. Fab cottage, very comfortable, warm and cosy. We have had a lovely weekend with all the family. Celebrating my 80th Birthday. This is a fantastic place to stay and we have been very comfortable. Thank you.
Eight Adults and one dog, a fabulous place to come together as a family group! The house was warm, comfy and a real home from home. Went to the local pub “The Longstone Hotel!” for Sunday lunch and it was fabulous. Visited Cragside, ford and Etal, Seahouses, Bamburgh! All well known to us, but always worth a visit! Thank you so much for the welcome pack and courtesy call – very much appreciated!
For walking and wildlife. We loved seeing the hare family coming in the garden every day! Will definitely book again. Thank you.
A lovely week with the family. Great location for exploring local castles and the fantastic beaches. Had good food in and out. Cosy cottage with the log burners. Well equipped rooms and kitchen. Thank you. PS the hamper of goodies was a lovely touch. Thank you for a lovely week, cottage in well equipped and very nice. Bamburgh castle and beach in a highlight – also try the Copper Kettle in Bamburgh for evening lunches and cakes. Warkworth castle and village is beautiful.
Long weekend away for a family members big birthday and this house made it very special indeed! Wonderful property, excellent facilities and the BBQ hut made it so much fun. Hit and miss with the weather but it didn’t matter to us one bit. We’ve had such a fantastic weekend and all of us have said we wish we could stay longer.. Maybe next time! Thank you for an excellent stay which will make this birthday one to remember.
We have had a wonderful week in this superbly comfortable house! Amazing walks along the beach, excellent lunches and castle visits!
Dear David. We had a wonderful Pre-Christmas weekend! Thank you for the lovely hamper. Our favourite part of the weekend was walking along Low Newton by the sea, the beach and hot chocolate in the Ship Inn. The horse was very very comfortable. Thank you.
We had a lovely weekend to celebrate my 60th birthday. Great house to sleep the whole family and nice and comfy and warm with the wood burners. Thank you.
Fantastic time had by all in Northumberland again. Thank you for your friendly welcome and fantastic home, so nice to have a real home from home. Also thank you for the fab welcome pack and doggie treats for Roma. So nice to have comfy beds and such good quality linens. We loved the BBQ hut!! Many thanks.
This has been our first trip to the Northumbrian coast and it certainly wont be our last. The house and the welcome pack exceeded all our expectations. The kids had a great time playing in the garden with all the toys. The house was amazing and so comfortable – a real home from home. The phone call from David to give us some hints and tips about where to go was such a thoughtful gesture. Thanks again.
We’ve had a lovely time at The Old Manse. The weather wasn’t the best but the children had a ball. WE visited the ocean club on the wettest day and later had a walk on the beach. On our final day the rain cleared and we were able to appreciate this beautiful part of the world. On our final night we toasted marshmallows in the fire pit – The kids thought it was amazing. We had a great time in the evenings in front of the roaring fire. Thanks for the lovely welcome pack!
Just enjoyed a lovely long weekend for a family members special birthday. Everyone was very impressed by the wall presented beautiful house and extras like the Welcome Pack, excellent idea. Beds were very comfortable and I especially liked the en-suite in every room. Kitchen was fantastic, very well stocked and everyone was able to eat together at the large table in the dining room. We visited the beautiful Banbury Castle and Seahouses and also found a little jewel called Heatherslaw Mill. Where we boarded a little train to Etal where we enjoyed a lovely lunch.
We all had a wonderful weekend in The Old Manse, which was spacious and comfortable for all 10 of us and Coco the dog. Thank you very much for the welcome pack which was greatly appreciated by all. We all enjoyed the big garden for some ball games and badminton and made great use brilliant BBQ hub. The area offered many interesting attractions and we had an amazing time at Alnwick Castle and Garden where a few of us enjoyed broomstick training. We also had a fabulous time at the beach although the water was very cold. Thank you so much.
Thanks so much for letting us stay in your house. We had a wonderful time. Enjoyed the garden and had a BBQ in the evening. The rooms are so comfy and Its great that they all have a bathroom. Its a lovely house with a great atmosphere. Thanks for all the nice food and drink we appreciated at our arrival.
My family and I have stayed for two weeks and it has been delightful. We have had 9 of us staying here ranging from 3 to 70 years old and we have all been able to stay comfortably without being on top of each other. The house and garden are beautifully maintained and we would all quite happily live here if we could!
This is fantastic property in a great location. So well equipped with everything. Perfect for a large group of ladies annual get together. We especially loved the log fires and the fact that there is plenty of wood provided. Loved the BBQ hut but sadly never got to use it. So we need to return. Great parking spaces, amazing welcome pack. Nice welcome call and plenty of information on the area. We would definitely recommend and come back.
What a perfect house for our annual “girls” weekend away. Great location. Comfy, warm and welcoming. Would recommend Insieme, SeaHouses Golf Club and Greys Inn Embleton for good food and friendly service. If you need a taxi Dial-a-Ride has an 8 Seater which you can pre-book.(Go Mick!) Thank you from us all.
We’ve had the perfect stay, celebrating a 70th birthday with 3 generations, ages range from 2-70. The house is amazing with everything we needed. The welcome hamper was very well received! Thank you, our welcome phone call was a lovely personal touch! All generations made use of the fire pit and toasted marshmallows! Even though we had brought “entertainment” for the kids, the toy chest and books went down a treat and the teddy bear, well what can we say… our 2 year old little boy just adored him. We all wished we could have stayed longer but we managed a couple of walks on the Bamburgh beach which included a bit of sand sledging! Fun filled weekend and memories.
The house has been perfect for our family get together and served as a perfect base for days out. We found the rooms cosy, the kitchen well-equipped and the BBQ hut great fun! We also had some visitors in the garden…
We couldn’t have asked for more, beautiful home and surroundings. It was perfect for my partners surprise birthday (60th). The house had a warm cosy feel, with all the things we needed, including the complimentary scones cane and wine. Your rooms provided space (2 adults and 1 toddler), beautifully furnished and log fires added more to the atmosphere.. We will definitely be recommending this to family and friends. Thank you.
We had a lovely weekend at The Old Manse to celebrate my 50th birthday with my family. The house is lovely and full of character and made for a great celebration. My 3 year old granddaughter loved the ‘fairy house’ in the garden where we had a BBQ on Friday night for my birthday. Seahouses and the nearby beaches are beautiful and despite the weather we got out and about for lovely beach walks. Hope to return one day for another family get together.
We had a lovely weekend in your beautiful home. Enjoyed the location, the BBQ hut, the scones and more. Cosy interiors and ambient lighting served an idyllic respite from the biting sea air.
Eight friends from Yorkshire & Scotland met for a get together in your stunning house! It is so well equipped with everything you could wish for and more! Lots to see in the area, all within easy driving distance. We would return here without a second thought. Thank you so much!
We were a party of 5 adults and 3 children, the whole experience was superb. Welcome hamper was a lovely touch. The house is excellent in a great location. The area is stunning and Seahouses and Alnwick were delightful. Would return in an instant.
We had a wonderful time. Lovely house! No issues. Went to lots of beaches (would recommend the Jolly Fisherman). The Kota was wonderful for a summer BBQ. There were 10 of us and we fitted the house perfectly. Very kid friendly especially for under 6s. Amazing welcome hamper to kick start the holiday. Thank you so much!
Beautiful house and so well worked. Cycling in Northumberland is amazing! Beach walks with the dogs too. Really special part of the world – Thank you so much.
Lovely welcome hamper and well equipped holiday home. Seahouses beach beyond beautiful at sunset. Enjoyed the Puffins and Kittiwakes at the Farne Islands and visited the national trust shop on the Holy Island, which rescued us when we forgot our dog lead! Many thinks.
The Old Manse is lovely and cosy, really well appointed, and is absolutely perfect for couples as all rooms are en-suite. Despite being on the edge of town, it’s really quiet and has great access to dog walking paths and the fabulous beach. Lots of eateries in Seahouses, we had a great meal at St Aidan’s Bistro and also loved the Apple Inn at Lucker (and they take bookings with dogs). We couldn’t fault this property and would highly recommend it.
Beautiful property which has a lovely welcoming feel. The welcome basket had personal touches including a cake, scones and local produce. The space and the home comforts everyone was catered for. Facilities were fantastic. The property has character, a secure garden and the Kota was an added extra.
Homely and welcoming rooms for the family – lounge, dining room. We really liked the Scones, bread, teas and coffee – lovely idea. The cottage had 5 spacious bedrooms, each with their own bathroom.
The Old Manse was a perfect house for a family weekend away. Five bedrooms all ensuite, lovely cosy lounge, very well equipped kitchen and large sociable dining room. Also, a lovely conservatory, barbecue hut and large garden with plenty garden furniture. Unfortunately, the weather wasn’t kind enough for us to have proper use of these things but, maybe next time..? We also appreciated the welcome hamper – a lovely touch and a chance to sample local produce.
I unlocked the front door and everyone spilled in, excited to explore this unique holiday home. The bedrooms are all nicely decorated, no one felt short changed, with comfortable beds and good quality linens. The conservatory was a big bonus with comfortable seating and a play area. We loved the large garden with its lovely furniture, so nice to be able to linger outside chatting on a warm Summer evening. When the Sun was strong in the afternoons we spread out rugs under the shade of the wonderful mature trees. The sitting room has a large smart TV which was appreciated by some of the family. The kitchen and utility room are well equipped and convenient to the outside dining area. We used the Kota a few times for cooking but as we were lucky most days with the weather we didn’t use it to sit in. The area around North Sunderland/Seahouses is beautiful and we visited the islands and castles and beaches but we’ll have to return as we couldn’t fit everything in during just one week. Seahouses has something for everyone, a big seaside shop for buckets and spades etc and some small, pretty shops to explore. The Co-op is a great shop and I have to mention the Independent Store for fresh fruit and vegetables. I can recommend the bakery for lunch time snacks especially the mini quiches and the butcher for tasty sausages. Bamburgh has a good deli and butcher too. The Neptune is good for a fish and chip takeaway. Our dogs had a great holiday too. I’d definitely recommend The Old Manse.
Lovely house with lots of room. We especially liked the garden. Very clean when we arrived and well stocked with everything we needed. The owner was very helpful and called to see if we had settled in okay. Once again, a lovely cottage from Coquet Cottages. We will definitely book again with you.
A lovely big house and garden with top quality linens, comfortable beds and furniture. I had heard that the area around Seahouses was lovely, The Old Manse was dog friendly and big enough to accommodate our extended family as well as being tastefully decorated. The garden was big and safe for the children. We were delighted with the house. We had plenty of space to spread out or all come together. Top class garden furniture. The kota was a novelty and we cooked in it a few times when the weather was warm/hot it was a bit too smokey to stay inside. We liked the big garden and the garden furniture. Some very nice holiday homes have garden ‘stuff’ as an after though ie not very nice but here we were able to enjoy a few warm summer evenings sitting outside chatting – wonderful! The large conservatory was great when it was raining and very child friendly. The TV in the sitting room was also pretty impressive. We also loved the area and visited some of the more famous sights. The beach at Bamburgh near that golf club was our favourite.
