Guest Feedback for Wood Cottage
Our visitors’ book at Wood Cottage is great to read through over a cup of coffee or a glass of wine and provide a wealth of recommendations on the best places to eat and visit, as well as some useful tips to benefit other guests. We also send Guest Surveys to all our guests after their holiday and some of their comments are listed here too.
Many guests have listed recommendations for the same lovely places, such as Warkworth Beach, Alnwick Castle and Gardens, Barter Books, Holy Island and the Farnes, but for the sake of avoiding repetition in this particular format, we have omitted these recommendations, but they can still be read in full in the visitors’ books in Wood Cottage.
Wood Cottage couldn’t have been better. The view was lovely and we liked how clean and comfortable it was.
We really can’t pick out any single aspect to highlight the property, as it is the perfect cottage in a truly breath taking location. Playing chess with my daughter in the bay window overlooking the Simonside Hills was just magical! Please don’t change a thing.
>h2>The things we liked the most about the cottage was the fact it was spacious, peaceful, had access to wood behind the cottage and had stunning views. We enjoyed the property being rural, and that it had a large garden, was detached and dog friendly.
Had a lovely stay, beautiful views and lovely walks. The cottage was lovely and clean, the dog also had a great time too! Thank you.
This is our first time in the North and we loved it, we will be back. Please walk and visit The Cross Keys Pub, which were very hospitable and gave us a warm welcome. Cragside, Alnwick Castle, Craster Kippers, Brinkside Priory, Wallington. The Ale at The Granby in Longframlington. Visited Lindisfarne Priory £14.30. The cottage was great, comfortable, well equipped. The butchers in Rothbury was very good, and we will be back!
A great fortnight in this lovely cottage. Surprisingly dry and great walking was done in splendid isolation. W will miss the views , the sense of calm and the every boisterous crows.
Lovely house with fantastic views of the hills. We walked around Simonside, Cragside and Rothbury river. Rail, hail and a bit of sun! Loved the house and the books at the property. Thank you.
Lovely stay, thank you. Great views and a wonderful stay was had. When can we come back? We loved it here so much that we didn’t want to leave. Gorgeous views, beautiful walks, this is a perfect cottage and we got lucky with the sunshine too! Thank you. Defiantly check out the place down the road which does lovely cakes.
This is a wonderful cottage with fantastic views. We have enjoyed every second of it and cant thank you enough.
Loved our return visit (x3) now! A very windy ridge this year when we visited Simonside and Breamish Valley, where the walks were beautiful. We will be back again! Thank you.
A very restful week in your lovely cottage. We enjoyed the walk out the back over to Rothbury and a day visit to Wallington.
Amazing cottage with incredible grounds. It has been an enjoyable experience.
Gorgeous location. Beautiful property. Well equipped, open plan but still cosy. Views were fabulous. Nothing more was needed for the first day, as the welcome basket had all the essentials. We enjoyed the location, warmth, and thought the property was well equipped with lovely views.
Beautiful cottage in an excellent location, with wonderful views across the valley to the Simonside Hills. We enjoyed the welcome pack it was fulsome and had some really useful (and tasty) items in it.
The location of the property was great for walking and there was lovely views. The Coquet Cottages website was easy to use and had lots of information available about the cottage and surrounding area. There was a really generous and useful selection of things in the welcome basket we could use to make an emergency dinner/breakfast if needed, not just posh chocolates! I loved the fruit and the wine. We really appreciated the overall approach of the company, everything very slick, including the phone calls a few days before the holiday started. We also had some lovely texts from the owner on the days we were arriving and leaving.
Lovely cottage in a great location with brilliant facilities. It was spotlessly clean and the views are just beautiful. The Scandinavian burner is great, the decor is lovely and the cottage is situated in very relaxing surroundings.

Really enjoyed our stay – lovely house, location and the view is fab. We enjoyed the lounge with the view and the welcome basket. Really loved the personal touch with phone calls from both Coquet and Vanessa the owner’s daughter-in-law.

Wood Cottage was really fabulous. A great location, with views and everything we wanted.
Delightful position, with spacious rooms and fantastic views. There was a big garden, and immediate access to the moors above. It had a very large reception room. The welcome basket had a great variety. The outlook and the peace and quiet of the location was ideal for us.

Everything we could have possibly needed was provided in the cottage. It has great views from the terrace and was so peaceful. We had a really relaxing break. We loved the location which was ideal to head to the coast and going inland.
We loved the views and the style of the property, we enjoyed watching the birds at the feeders – providing bird food was fantastic. Welcome basket was also fantastic. Having the essentials so we didn’t need to shop immediately on arrival – milk, butter, bread, eggs etc was great.
Absolutely fabulous in every way. Our dog is now 15 and we need to consider him first and foremost, so we are now looking for properties all on one level. Wood Cottage was just as amazing as the photos suggested. The kitchen and living space is outstanding and the views from this area were fantastic. The dog hamper included a birthday cake, card, present and treats for him as we celebrated this while we were in the cottage. Us humans were well taken care of too, gluten free goodies for me and gorgeous chocolate biscuits for my husband. The champagne in the fridge was the icing on the cake. Everything was perfect.
This was our second visit to your beautiful cottage. We come to relax and recharge our batteries. Such a lovely place to do it! Perfect. We’ll be back again, thank you.
Booked into the cottage to celebrate our dogs 15th birthday, than you for his card and treats 🙂 Despite the weather – 60mph winds, torrential rain and even snow. The sun managed to shine through and we’ve enjoyed a fantastic stay even though our walks are somewhat limited now. We’ve cooked, baked, danced, read, played chess, just relaxed together. Just what this fabulous cottage was made for.
Fabulous property. Beautifully decorated and equipped and great family and dog friendly layout. The welcome basket was all brilliant. Haribos for kids a great touch as was the full pack of butter in butter dish. First time we’ve stayed with a dog and we were really impressed by all that was provided. Fresh flowers too. You’d done a brilliant job. Views, fire, layout, comfortable beds, location, very well equipped with cleaning products, toilet rolls etc. Useful information provided and easy to find.
It was superb. The cottage was beautiful. A mix of modern and traditional that worked. The communication has been excellent receiving emails and phone calls before staying. The owner Vanessa also phoned to offer information about the cottage and the local area. The virtual tour was really helpful too. The directions we were given were brilliant too. The photos were attractive with stunning views of the valley below. They showed the strengths of the cottage. We were looking for 3 bedrooms, king size bed walk in shower and good kitchen as we like to cook rather than eat out. The cottage was warm spotless and very welcoming on arrival. There were light on timers and the heating was on so that was a bonus. There was enough for a breakfast if needed and of course the wine was a nice touch. It was clean and very comfortable. It was extremely well equipped right down to tea, coffee, sugar, toilet rolls, sharp knives wood for the wood burner, nuts for the bird feeders….- all things that have been lacking in other cottages that we have stayed in. We were very impressed.
We’ve had a wonderful time, beautiful views from the cottage and fantastic walks over the moors. We will be back – its been fabulous! Thank you.
Very well stocked cottage with good position for exploring, lovely views from excellent picturesque windows, peace, privacy topped with very good weather for the time all made for an excellent and relaxing holiday. Walk up Simonside – long, walk Harbottle via Drake Stone – short lots of beach walks – all good. Would recommend, Ship Inn, Low Newton and The Fish Shack in Amble.
Lovely Stay. We liked the views, quiet rural location and the speedy WIFI. The wine in the fridge and fresh flowers were a really nice touch.
Absolutely wonderful holiday cottage! We loved our stay here from start to finish! Could not be bettered! Stunning views- we never tired of looking at the incredible Northumberland countryside at its best! The cottage was immaculately clean! Jean, the housekeeper, clearly works very hard and was very obliging when providing us with a mid stay change of bedding etc. The bedrooms and bathrooms are perfect in size, comfort and re. the latter, always provided us with lashings of hot water! The open plan kitchen, dining and seating area is perfectly proportioned and so funky, yet welcoming and comfortable. The big screen TV and Netflix were much appreciated after a long day out and about! The utility is an ideal space for a doggie, hanging coats etc, storing shoes and boots and also offering the essential washing facilities when needed. The garden is fully enclosed! What a blessing when sheep are in nearby fields and you have an ‘enquiring’ doggie! Nearby Thropton and Rothbury provided us with everything we needed. Finally, the walks to the back of the cottage, across the heather covered moors are sublime! Such magnificent views too!
Fabulous cottage, stunning location, typical bank holiday week weather (can’t have it all!)

Lovely stay, everything home from home.
The Stewart Family, May 2019
A truly beautiful cottage, comfortable and furnished to a very high level in an incredible location with awesome views. Possibly the nicest cottage we’ve ever stayed in, we’ll definitely return. The welcome pack was very ‘welcome’, particularly the chilled white wine after a 5 hour slog up the A1 and A19!
Absolutely beautiful cottage. Didn’t want to go home. Attention to detail was amazing, everything we could possibly need was provided.. and the view left us speechless. Just perfect wish we had booked for longer. Great walks nearby too.
Lovely cottage, superb views everything as required in a holiday rental, really appreciated our welcome basket. Certainly wish to return and would recommend.
Fantastic cottage. Very well equipped and spotlessly clean. Vanessa, the owner was extremely informative prior to our visit. Would highly recommend this as a base as there’s fabulous walk to be had nearby.
The Dargue Family, April 2019
A wonderful windy long weekend. Climbed up Windy Gyle which was true to it’s name. So cosy and a lovely welcome pack. Loved it!
Charlie & Becky, April 2019
What a gem!! So relaxing we didn’t want to go out, watching all the different birds visiting the garden was amazing, views are breathtaking. We can’t recommend enough, but want to keep it a secret just for us. Until next time thank you so much for sharing your cottage with us. We will definitely be back soon.
The Charltons, April 2019
A perfect location for a girly week. The views alone would have kept us happy but as the weather was super we got out every day from Low Newton, Simonside and walk to Rothbury, Alnmouth to Warkworth were all good. We are already planning a ‘return visit!’
'Mad Merry Midwives!!' Jan, Angela, Myra and Pam, April 2019
Amazing views over the Simonside hills from wood cottage. The cottage is great and is maintained to a very high standard. It’s well equipped and comfortable. The owners are incredibly helpful and there is a very comprehensive folder guiding you around the area with maps etc of things to do. We found the good selection of OS maps particularly helpful.
There are great walks from the cottage if you so desire or within a 40 minute drive you can be at Craster, or Alnmouth in 25 minutes. Rothbury is a lovely place and we could recommend Tomlinson’s coffee shop. Well worth a visit to Wood Cottage. Thanks Vanessa for letting us have a stay in this delightful property, we will be back.
Absolutely beautiful, extremely comfortable and well equipped cottage. Views never to be beaten! The views are outstanding. The cottage is all on one level which is our preferred type of property. It’s in an area of Northumberland we hadn’t stayed in previously. It’s very spacious and there isn’t anything more that you could want! Everything was perfect for our arrival, the guest information file is second to non. We were also left flowers which is such a welcoming sight. The owner rang the day before our arrival and gave verbal information which was a pleasant surprise. We met the housekeeper on the evening we arrived. We had made a special request about heating and she called in to see that we were warm and comfortable. Lovely that people want you to be happy whilst on holiday.
A wonderful family week. Great views and the kids loved using the telescope they for Christmas. We were also delighted to find the toy box. Leg fracture meant Dad didn’t get any cycling done, very frustrating, so we’ll need to come back soon!
The Howies, Edinburgh
We arrived to 4 inches of snow and had to park half way down the lane. Lovely lovely Cottage. Blue skies, snow, sun, great walks, great food, red wine.. great weekend!

Had an amazing stay in your beautiful cottage. Plenty to see and do. Never a dull moment.
Very clean, everything worked, well equipped and obviously a very loved home. Jean the housekeeper has pride in her job and it shows.
Dog friendly, amazing space, outstanding views, immaculate kitchen, bathroom and all smart and modern! Very special. Liked the personal touch of the phone call from the owner the day before
Loved the cottage and the countryside. Weather was fabulous and we’ve all had a great time. Many thanks!

Wow! We love it here – thank you everything was just perfect and very well appointed. All the little touches were so appreciated like the home made marmalade and the chilled wine. We will be back!
We have had a fabulous week. Sunny views and some lovely walks – Simonside is a must do. This is a fantastic cottage! Thank you very much.
Lovely cottage, beautiful views – despite the gloomy weather! Lovely walks, the kids loved walking in the woodland at the back and spotting a deer, and watching the birds at the feeder!
Wonderful time up here walking and enjoying the amazing views. The cottage is wonderful and we had a great time, especially our visit to Dunstanburgh Castle!
Immaculate house and very comfortable. Loved the Scandinavian interior, the views and all the walks we could take our dog on. The welcome basket was great and contained enough for breakfast, we loved the wine and marmalade!
What a beautiful house – thank you for letting us share it! We will be back
