Tips from a local

The freshest fish on the north-east coastline!

If you’re seeking to find the freshest produce possible and enjoy our locally sourced fish and seafood, then Alliance Fish is the best you’ll find around the area.

Situated on Amble Harbour, this fish merchant posts regularly on their Facebook page to let their followers know exactly when the day’s catch is going to land. You can’t get any fresher than that!

Deserted Beaches

Whilst no beach in Northumberland is ever overcrowded, it’s always nice to find the super quiet beaches, where you feel like you’ve got the whole bay to yourself.

Discover Boulmer beach and Sugar Sands which aren’t tourist-heavy even in the busiest seasons. Park at Boulmer village which wraps around the beach, and continue walking northwards to discover lots of hidden bays and quiet spots. You can continue onto Craster if you’re seeking a longer walk, and get the bus back.

Tips from a local

Walk to the train station to discover more north and south

Alnmouth train station is a mere 10 minutes away on foot, and is a pivotal transport link on the east coast mainline. You can reach Edinburgh city centre in 59 minutes, or Newcastle city centre in approx. 30 minutes, not to mention Berwick upon Tweed or Morpeth too.

This transport link is a great way to arrive at the cottage too, especially if you’re not relying on a car all week. Any friends and family that may wish to join you will find it easy to reach you by public transport too.

Tips from a local

Game of Bridge, anyone?

Lesbury Village Hall holds a Bridge Club every Monday at 6:30pm for any keen Bridge players or those who wish to learn/compete against new players.

It’s £2.00 a session and includes tea or coffee part way through. Click here to visit their website.

Tips from a local

The Whittling House, Alnmouth

The Whittling House comes highly recommended by many of our customers and team. Sitting in the centre of Alnmouth, it can be reached on foot from Alnmill Cottage or in just a few minutes in a car.

Diana and Jeremy

Owners of Alnmill Cottage

We asked Diana and Jeremy what they love about Alnmill Cottage:

“We chose Lesbury as it’s so near to Alnmouth (but quieter and without the parking problems) yet only three miles from historic Alnwick.  Our son works in London, so Alnmouth mainline station means it’s easy for him to come north for the weekend.

Alnmill is a typical Northumberland Estate cottage, which we have given a contemporary vibe.

Bruno, our Irish Terrier, loves his nearby beach walks and we love breakfast-on-the-beach at Howdiemont Bay, with a bacon butty from the Running Fox at Longhoughton!”
