Whilst no beach in Northumberland is ever overcrowded, it’s always nice to find the super quiet beaches, where you feel like you’ve got the whole bay to yourself.
Discover Boulmer beach and Sugar Sands which aren’t tourist-heavy even in the busiest seasons. Park at Boulmer village which wraps around the beach, and continue walking northwards to discover lots of hidden bays and quiet spots. You can continue onto Craster if you’re seeking a longer walk, and get the bus back.

Diana and Jeremy
Owners of Alnmill Cottage
We asked Diana and Jeremy what they love about Alnmill Cottage:
“We chose Lesbury as it’s so near to Alnmouth (but quieter and without the parking problems) yet only three miles from historic Alnwick. Our son works in London, so Alnmouth mainline station means it’s easy for him to come north for the weekend.
Alnmill is a typical Northumberland Estate cottage, which we have given a contemporary vibe.
Bruno, our Irish Terrier, loves his nearby beach walks and we love breakfast-on-the-beach at Howdiemont Bay, with a bacon butty from the Running Fox at Longhoughton!”
