Bamburgh Five is a luxury apartment situated within Castle Garth, an art deco-inspired house overlooking iconic Bamburgh Castle. Each of the two bedrooms has it’s own bath/shower room. We regret children are not permitted, however an infant is welcome, sleeping in a travel cot.

This ground floor apartment has an open plan kitchen/lounge. Originally designed as a 3 bedroom ground floor apartment, the ‘3rd bedroom’ has been furnished as a separate dining room which capitalises on the view of Bamburgh Castle, so you can enjoy the amazing outlook while you dine.

There’s private parking for 1 car in the car port and for visitor parking for a second car in the private gated car park. Bamburgh Five is pet-free, so we regret dogs are not permitted.

Entrance & Parking at Bamburgh Five

Castle Garth has a private, gated car park with private parking under a car port for 1 car. There are 3 visitor parking bays in the same area but we can’t guarantee these will always be available. Additional parking is around 500yds away on the main street.

The entrance to Bamburgh Five is at the north end of the building. There are 5 steps down to the entrance doorway from the car park and entrance gardens, which then leads to 4 of the 8 luxury apartments.

As you step through the front door into the open plan entrance hallway, the kitchen and lounge are right ahead of you. There’s plenty of storage in the hallway for coats and shoes.

The Lounge at Bamburgh Five

The impressive and spacious lounge has French doors which showcase the view of Bamburgh Castle in all its glory. Mid-afternoon gives the best outlook of the castle when the sun illuminates the red rock and the castle appears to ‘glow’ red in the sunshine.

To capitalise on the breathtaking view, French doors lead out to a small north-east facing open patio area with seating for 4, which overlooks well-maintained communal gardens. The lounge has a 32″ Smart TV, wall-hung electric fire, 3 and 4 seater sofas and an additional occasional chair, so there should be no fight for sofa space. In addition there’s a further large north-west facing window framed with Plantation shutters for privacy.

The well-equipped luxury kitchen (slightly open plan to the lounge) has granite work tops and has a large, integrated fridge/freezer, electric fan oven, combination microwave oven, induction hob, dishwasher, washer/dryer, 4-slice toaster, kettle and filter coffee machine.

Dining Room

Main Bedroom with En-Suite Shower Room

This pretty bedroom houses a kingsize bed (5ft wide), and additionally has ample storage space via a whole wall of built-in wardrobes/drawer space.  A dressing table provides a view of the communal gardens, framed with Plantation shutters for privacy. There’s a bedside radio.  A hairdryer, luxury bedding and fluffy towels are also provided to make this room a lovely sanctuary.

The fully-tiled en-suite shower room contains a large shower, WC, wash basin, heated towel rail, shaver socket and mirror with lighting and ample storage space. Luxury complimentary toiletries are provided by Temple Spa.

Twin Bedroom with Bathroom

Twin single beds (each 3ft wide which cannot be converted to a superking bed). Plenty of drawer space and additional hanging space in one of the hallway storage cupboards is provided. The north-west facing window provides natural light and has Plantation shutters for privacy.

Family Bathroom

Communal Gardens

Castle Garth has very well-maintained gardens that primarily sweep around the front of the house which benefit the guests staying at Bamburgh Five.   The gardens lead down to a gate which opens out to the path that runs alongside the cricket pitch at the front of Bamburgh Castle, providing a direct route for a walk to the castle, dunes or beach.

You’re welcome to have a BBQ (no BBQ provided) but it must be in the designated area at the south gable end of Castle Garth.

Map & Local Area

Bamburgh Five couldn’t be better positioned within Bamburgh village. The view is breathtaking and it has lots to explore from the doorstep. The magnificent beach, just a few minutes walk away is perfect to enjoy the sweeping sands of a beach so beautiful and unspoilt it’s often used as a backdrop for Hollywood blockbuster films.  Bamburgh Castle stands majestically proud above the beach; well preserved and very well maintained and fascinating to explore.

The main street of the village is just 3 minutes away on foot, where you’ll find a fine selection of restaurants such as The Potted Lobster, pubs including the Lord Crewe Arms and quaint gift shops, a good green grocer, the famous ‘Carters’ butchers, several cafes and delis.

Bamburgh village is also home for the superb Grace Darling museum. Grace Darling was a famous local heroine who saved several souls from a shipwreck in stormy seas just off the coast of Bamburgh. Entry is free and it’s worth a pop in to get a sense of local history.

There are plenty of walks from Bamburgh, as well as the obvious beautiful beach walks on your doorstep. A walk northwards to Budle Bay will show you a wealth of interesting birds on the sweeping sands of the bay.  Three miles south is Seahouses which you can reach by walking along the beautiful sand dunes or the beach – or drive. Bamburgh Five is very welcoming, clean and comfortable. The location is great along with the spectacular views and well equipped apartment in a tranquil setting. The service from the team was faultless from start to finish, excellent! The welcome basket is a nice touch. Having stayed in a Coquet Cottage property before we knew what to expect and we were not disappointed.

Tips from a local

A stay in Bamburgh isn’t complete without a visit to Carters Butchers on the main street to sample their famous ‘Bamburgh Bangers’ and pies. Carters Butchers is a family-run business and has been in existence since 1887.

They’re most famous for their divine pork pies and other meat pies, baked fresh that morning.  Once they’re gone, they’re gone so don’t expect the shop to be open late in the afternoon as they close once all the fresh food has sold – go in the morning!

Tips from a local

Visit The Copper Kettle Tearoom which is located right in the heart of Bamburgh village. This popular tearoom serves delicious home-cooked lunches, sweet treats and a wide selection of hot and cold drinks. Either soak up the sun in the courtyard or cosy up inside the tearoom – either way, you’ll receive a warm welcome from the staff.

Tips from a local

Take an educational and very interesting visit to the Grace Darling Museum located in Bamburgh village. This museum tells the tale of Grace Darling who was born in Bamburgh in 1814 and moved to Longstone Lighthouse alongside her family, which is located on one of the Farne Islands which you can see just off the coast.

Grace Darling was the daughter of the lighthouse keeper and one stormy evening in 1838, the steamship SS Forefarshire ran aground onto rocks and broke in two, so Grace and her father set out in a rowing boat and as a result of their bravery saved the lives of 9 people.

The museum holds many of Grace and her family’s possessions, including the rowing boat she used to carry out the famous rescue.  The museum tells the story of Grace’s life and untimely death in a fascinating and animated way.

Tips from a local

Experience a relaxing, well-earned pamper day at Beau Monde in Lucker. Beau Monde is the ideal place to relax, unwind and rejuvenate whilst on holiday and is located just a 10-minute drive from Bamburgh.

There’s a range of spa packages and treatments available to chose from or you can just enjoy a drink and unwind on a lounger by the pool.

Tips from a local

Head over to Budle Bay if you have an interest in bird-watching, it’s located a few minutes drive north of Bamburgh.

Budle Bay is part of the Lindisfarne National Nature Reserve and is an important bird sanctuary with huge mud flats that are exposed at low tide. This nature reserve is particular popular for bird watchers in the winter when thousands of wildfowl and waders spend their time on the mud flats. If birdwatching isn’t your thing, you can always visit Budle Bay later in the day to watch the impressive sunset on a clear evening.  Eitherway it’s a beautiful and unmissable place to see while you’re staying in Bamburgh.
