Camellia Grove is a beautifully renovated period property on a quiet street, yet just a stone’s throw from all amenities in Amble. Jasper’s Bistro, The Old Boathouse Restaurant and Lilly’s Landing Café and Bar and just a couple of minute’s walk from the front door. With the harbour, pier and beach just a few hundred yards away too, Camellia Grove is the perfect base for exploring this quirky and vibrant little seaside town.

Camellia Grove can accommodate up to four guests in two bedrooms and 1 family bathroom. With an open-plan living room and dining space, separate kitchen and gorgeous conservatory, the property is cosy yet very comfortable for a family break or friendly getaway.  The sun-trap south-east facing garden is very spacious with pretty lawn area and large patio and BBQ provided for guest use. Two small-medium sized dogs (no bigger than a Labrador) are welcome to stay at Camellia Grove.

Overview

Camellia Grove is a bright and spacious property with plenty of period charm and beautifully renovated with all the modern, luxury facilities you could want during your stay. Camellia Grove sleeps up to four guests in one king size bedroom, and one twin bedroom that can be converted to a super king bed on request. Two well-behaved small or medium size dogs (no bigger than a Labrador-size) are very welcome. Free WiFi as standard.

 

Ground Floor

Entrance

The main entrance into the property is through the front door, into a pretty hallway with hanging hooks and console table. The entrance hallway leads into the open plan lounge and dining room to the right, ground floor WC to the left and the kitchen is at the end of the corridor to the rear of the house. The staircase also leads up from the entrance hall.

 

Open-plan Living and Dining Room Area

Living Room

The living room is at the front of the property with a large north-west facing bay window looking over the front flower beds and street outside. The lounge contains two gorgeous two-seater sofas and an additional chair, coffee table and side cabinet. There is a wall-mounted Smart TV with Netflix account provided and Nintendo Switch (games included).  The room is focused around a pretty, electric fireplace and feature mantlepiece. The living room is beautifully decorated with pastel green wall panelling and oozes luxury and comfort. A selection of games and playing cards are provided for guest use.

 

Dining Area

The lounge flows open-plan in to the spacious dining area, with a stylish table and four chairs. The dining space also contains a quirky built in display cabinet where you’ll find some lovely kitchenware, and in the lower cupboard, the hoover and an electric fan for use in the warmer months.

 

Conservatory

Patio doors lead from the dining area into a bright and spacious conservatory. Stunning flooring, stylish rattan lounging chairs with a coffee table and views looking out to the gorgeous back garden make this room the perfect spot to kick back and relax with a book and a cup of tea.

 

Kitchen

There is access to the kitchen from the main hallway and from the conservatory. The kitchen is well equipped with all the essentials: electric fan oven with 4-ring gas hob and extractor fan above, sink, free-standing fridge/freezer, microwave, kettle, 4 slice toaster, Tassimo coffee machine (with small initial supply of pods) and integrated dishwasher. The kitchen also contains a washing machine, and there is an electric heated clothes airer as well as a standard folding airer provided.  Patio doors lead from the kitchen out to the spacious back lawn and patio garden.

 

Ground Floor WC

Located in the hallway, there is a handy WC with toilet, wash basin and wall mirror situated under the stairs.

 

First Floor

The staircase leads from the entrance hall up to the landing of the first floor, where you’ll find the family bathroom, king size bedroom and second bedroom which can either be set with twin single beds, or a super king bed upon request when booking.

 

Family Bathroom

The family bathroom at Camellia Grove is beautifully decorated with striking pastel pink tiling and bold black fixtures and fittings. There is a shower over the deep bath with a rainfall shower head and additional attachment, WC, wash basin with drawer storage underneath and an illuminated mirrored cabinet above, and a heated towel rail. Handy hooks on the back of the door and luxury complimentary toiletries provided.

 

Main Bedroom

The main bedroom contains a king size bed (5ft wide), two bedside tables and lamps, wardrobe, chest of drawers and a full length mirror with a storage drawer below and a shelf and lamp to the side. The main bedroom benefits from a Smart TV with Netflix account provided for guest use. The large window is south-east facing and looks out over the pretty back garden.

 

Twin/ Super king Bedroom

The second bedroom at Camellia Grove can either be set with full size twin single beds (3 ft wide) or can be converted into a luxury super king size bed (6ft wide) on request, for adults-only, when booking. The room contains a bedside table and lamp, a desk with a lamp, single wardrobe, tall chest of drawers and a feature built-in shelf. The decor in this bedroom is gorgeous with a woodland theme feature wallpaper and feature panelling behind the head of the beds. This room is located at the front of the house with a north-west facing window looking out to the residential street, fitted with blinds and curtains.

 

Garden and Parking

The garden of Camellia Grove is very spacious and pretty, with a large patio, lawn area and lovely flower bed around the border. There is an outside dining table and 4 chairs on the patio area, and a gas BBQ for guests to use (cannister provided). The garden can be accessed from the front of the house through the side gate, through the back gate leading in from the field behind, or of course through the house from the conservatory or kitchen. It is fully enclosed by fencing when the side gate and back gate are kept closed.

 

Parking

There is on-street parking outside the front of the property. The street is residential so it is usually no problem to get parked in front of or very close to Camellia Grove.

Dogs must be over 1 year old and are not permitted upstairs or on any soft furnishings, or be left unattended at the property (dog-sitting service available, see the guidebook app provided when you book to arrange or contact us direct).

Bike Storage
There is bike storage available in the secure shed in the private, enclosed back garden of Camellia Grove.

The garden at Camellia Grove is fully enclosed with fencing when the side gate and the rear gate are shut. There is a lawn area, large patio space and pretty, planted borders. A dining table with 4 chairs is provided and a gas BBQ available for guest use.

Smart TVs in the lounge and both bedrooms. All Smart TVs have a Netflix account provided for guest use. Nintendo Switch console with games. Radio with Bluetooth Speaker. Free Wi-Fi throughout.

Parking
There is public, roadside parking at the front of the property. The road is residential so it is usually not a problem to get parked in front of or near to Camellia Grove.

Accommodation over 2 floors; the kitchen, open-plan living room and dining area, conservatory and WC are on the ground floor. On the first floor, access by a staircase, there is a king size bedroom, a twin single/super king size convertible bedroom, and a family bathroom. Please note, there are 5 steps from the pavement to the front door of Camellia Grove.

Bedrooms
Two bedrooms; one king-size bedroom, one twin bedroom that can be converted into a superking-size bedroom on request when booking. Luxury bed linen is provided. All duvets and pillows are hypo-allergenic, non-feather.

Bathrooms
There is one family bathroom containing a shower over the bath with rainfall shower head and additional attachment, WC, wash basin, illuminated mirror, heated towel rail and drawer and shelf storage. There is also a ground floor WC containing a toilet, wash basin and wall mirror.

Camellia Grove is in the heart of Amble Fishing Town, tucked away behind the town square and historic clock tower.

This family holiday home is a stone’s throw to the Little Shore, White House Sands Beach, Amble pier and the fascinating working harbour. Everything in Amble can be reached easily on foot from Camellia Grove, including some of the best seafood restaurants and cafes in the county.

The coastline and harbour are very interesting in Amble as you can watch the fishing boats come and go.  The views of Coquet Island from the pier are beautiful, as they are from the house too! A mile south along the coastal route is Hauxley Nature Reserve which has a whole host of different wildlife to spot all year round.

One mile north you will find the medieval village of Warkworth with its impressive castle towering over the centre of the village. Warkworth is very easy to reach on foot, following the walk along the Coquet estuary from the harbour until you reach the castle. In Warkworth you’ll find a great selection of village pubs (no less than 4 to choose from!) and a five-mile long golden sandy beach accessible from the north end of the village.

Amble is a great place to be based to enjoy the excellent choice of eateries and the beautiful coastal landscape on your doorstep, as well as visiting a host of other popular places in Northumberland such as Rothbury country village and the nearby Simonside Hills and Ingram Valley, the traditional coastal villages of EmbletonCraster and Bamburgh, to the central market town of Alnwick. Everywhere in Northumberland is easy to reach from this gorgeous holiday cottage in Amble.

Tips from a local

Take a walk along the estuary from Amble to Warkworth, and continue on to The Mill Walk around the magnificent castle, along the river and back to Amble. There’s lots of wildlife to look out for along the way – and you’ll likely see the herons perched along the River Coquet. If you’re lucky, you may be able to spot a seal in the river too! Break your walk up with a stop at Bertram’s on Warkworth’s main street for a coffee and cake by the fire.

Tips from a local

Take a Puffin Cruise from Amble dock to Coquet Island, and discover the island’s nesting sea birds! There are over 40,000 birds including Puffins, Kittiwakes, Artic Terns, Eider Ducks and more during the summer months. Plus, you may even spot the grey seal colony who stay at the island all year round, or if you’re lucky, a dolphin!

Book a table at The Old Boathouse, an award-winning restaurant that is just a four-minute walk from Camellia Grove. They have a fantastic menu offering quality, fresh dishes, and their outside area is the perfect spot to sit and admire the marina views in the summer.

We asked Leanne what she loves about Camellia Grove:

“Although I currently live in London with my husband and two daughters, surrounded by constant hustle and bustle, this hasn’t always been the case. I grew up in Australia, where I spent my evenings walking along the beach, listening to the sea and birds. Over the years, I’ve dreamt of finding a little piece of “home” in the UK. When we escaped lockdown over the summer of 2020 we decided to head to Northumberland, staying for a week in Amble. We immediately fell in love with the village, the coastline, the outdoors, the history, the quaint villages and local shops. Within weeks of that visit, we bought Camellia Grove. The following months were spent renovating and redecorating the house in a modern mid-century style.

The house is ideally placed to explore Amble and Northumberland. My daughters enjoy nothing more than carrying their bodyboards to the Little Shore for a play in the sea, followed by ice cream on the short walk back to the house. In the evenings they unlock the back gate to spot rabbits on the field directly behind the house; sometimes they’re even lucky enough to spot a hedgehog.

We love escaping to Camellia Grove, and hope you enjoy spending time at the house as much as we do.”
