Cowslip Cottage at Felton

A Divine Little Bolthole in a Country Village

We loved Cowslip Cottage at Felton from the moment we first saw it.   It has everything you could want in a country holiday cottage, from the honey sandstone and exposed beams, wood burning stove, open countryside views, a private enclosed garden and a lovely little village in walking distance with a great pub and restaurant – The Northumberland Arms – and a renowned Artisan Bakery, The Running Fox.

There is so much to enjoy on the doorstep of Cowslip Cottage, but if you wish to explore further and visit the popular sites of Holy Island, Alnwick Castle and Garden, the stunning across the Northumberland coast or perhaps Cragside National Trust site in Rothbury, these are all within very easy reach of Cowslip Cottage as the village of Felton is just 1 mile from the A1.

Cowslip Cottage sleeps up to 4 in 2 bedrooms and has been awarded 4 Stars by Visit Britain and also achieved the prestigious accolade of a GOLD Award for excellence.

It was very comfortable and well equipped and just ideally situated to explore Northumberland. The local facilities, the pub and bakery and a small grocery store meant that we had everything we could possibly need to hand. We have travelled to Northumberland for the last few years and this is the best cottage we stayed in. It is not often that I feel I can relax and feel at home so much as I did in this cottage and I would definitely book through you again.

Tips from a local

Have a trip to Alnwick Castle and Gardens, and enjoy a spot of lunch at The Treehouse. Although not cheap to get into the attractions, the tickets do allow entry for a year so it’s an excuse to visit Northumberland again! Make sure you book up in advance at The Treehouse as it’s very popular.

Tips from a local

Go to The Running Fox for afternoon tea, but be make sure you are hungry as their portions are huge! You will need to book in advance too as they get really busy. Their deli is great for taking goodies back to the cottage with you. It’s just down the road from the cottage – head towards the bridge in Felton and it’s on your left.

Show your Coquet Cottages key ring when you dine in the cafe and enjoy free coffee for 2 people.

Tips from a local

Cycle to Cresswell from Amble – it’s about an 8.5 mile route and the same again back. Park at the harbour and head south out of Amble, following the dunes through Low Hauxley and the views are just beautiful. When we do this route, we finish at The Drift Café behind the dunes at Cresswell, for a hot coffee and something sweet, then we head back to Amble.

You can hire bikes for adults and children Pedal Power who are in Amble too, in case you couldn’t fit yours in the car!

We asked Shannon for her top 3 favourite things about Cowslip Cottage:

“Cowslip Cottage is in the gorgeous village of Felton. The fact you can walk to the beautiful, artisan bakery, The Running Fox and The Northumberland Arms, in 7 minutes is a huge plus!

The dual aspect wood-burning stove is brilliant! It means you can enjoy the gorgeous fire from the living room and the kitchen. Seriously cosy!

I love the cosy feel that Cowslip Cottage has. As soon as I walked in, I knew it was perfect to enjoy whatever the weather. You can batten down the hatches, light the fire and retreat from the world during the winter or completely wind down after long sunny days exploring Northumberland.”
