We have all enjoyed a very nice stay at Crab Apple Cottage. We were very happy with the hamper upon arrival, it contained some lovely items which we have enjoyed all week. The cottage was spacious, very comfortable and cosy. Everything we needed was provided. We have enjoyed lots of local eateries; The Running Fox for breakfast which is highly recommended and The Joiner’s Arms in Low Newton. The weather has been kind to us. Thank you for a wonderful stay. We look forward to a return visit.Escape the ordinary read our guest book

Visit the historic Alnwick Castle
A fun day out for the whole family – A visit to Alnwick Castle is an absolute must, especially if you have any Harry Potter fans coming with you! The castle was used when filming scenes in The Great Hall and for many of the external shots. There is a fun tour around the grounds and you can even join in for a broomstick flying lesson too! The history of the castle is fascinating, and with members of the Percy family still residing in the castle, the rooms open to the public are beautifully preserved.
David and Alison Weddell
Owners of Crab Apple Cottage
We asked David and Alison what they love about Crab Apple Cottage:
“We originally acquired the cottage because it is on the farm where we work in the family business, and the location was perfect. It is a lovely old cottage with bags of character and thick walls to protect us from the wind and weather, being so close to the coast. It is away from the road and has good parking, but still has a sea view, so it suited us perfectly and we loved living there.
We spent sunny afternoons on the decking with a glass of wine and a BBQ going, but eventually, a bigger house came up in the village to we took the opportunity to convert this property to a holiday cottage for everyone to enjoy. We named the cottage after the Crab Apple tree which is always covered in fruit in the autumn and looks really amazing in the garden.
As we work in farming, leisure time is a rare thing, but we manage to walk the dog on the beach every day, and we have spent our lives in Boulmer, so we have seen it change throughout the years. It is now very popular with visitors, but we can remember when the sea was just a place for the fishermen to work, and all the cottages were filled with families who had lived here for generations. When we do get a night off, we love to get together with friends in our local pub, the Fishing Boat Inn – come and join us!”
