Map & Local Area
The picturesque village of Bamburgh is within walking distance of Curlew Cottage and has a range of great pubs, restaurants, shops, the renowned Grace Darling Museum, Bamburgh Castle and Bamburgh beach. You can also walk to Budle Bay along Bamburgh beach too, which has an abundance of wildlife to observe at all times of the year.
It will take approx. 20-22 mins to walk into Bamburgh village along the footpaths, but these aren’t lit so it’s not recommended in the winter with dark nights unless you have torch. The footpath is between the fields, rather than along the road. Otherwise, it’s no more than 3-4 minutes in the car.
Seahouses is another great vibrant little town which is another 5 mins’ drive south from Bamburgh. Whilst there’s an element of kiss-me-quick seaside charm, there’s some great little gift shops and of course, the famous boat trips that visit the Farne Islands that leave from the harbour.
You can explore the location of Curlew Cottage on the map below which gives you a good idea of the area. The postcode of the property is NE69 7AW. Clean and modern in peaceful location. Easy access to Bamburgh. We are Nespresso coffee fans so the machine was a nice addition to have. Luckily we saw the machine in the photos and brought our own supplies with us. Excellent! We will make Coquet Cottages our first choice for our annual Northumberland stay.Escape the ordinary read our guest book
Tips from a local
You must visit Carters Butchers on Bamburgh main street and sample the famous ‘Bamburgh Banger’. Carters butchers is family-run and has been in business since 1887, famous for it’s divine pork pies and other meat pies, baked fresh that morning so once they are gone – they’re gone!
Tips from a local
Take a boat tour out to the Farne Islands with Billy Shiel’s boat trips. This is a must when you come to Northumberland, especially as you are so close to Seahouses. The tours leave from Seahouses harbour and sail all around the Farne Islands. Some stop at the islands where you can get off the boat and have a tour by one of the local rangers, and each boat tour differs depending on the season and what is nesting/breeding around the island. Billy Shiel’s tours are the largest operator in the town, still ran by all the members of the Shiel family who are the most knowledgeable about the area. Make sure you book in advance as they are incredibly popular, especially after being featured on the TV series ‘Robson Green’s Tales from Northumberland’!
David and Nicola
Owners of Curlew Cottage
We asked David and Nicola, the owners, what made them fall in love with Curlew Cottage:
“We bought Curlew Cottage following our own fantastic experiences at Dovecott Cottage (our own private holiday home next door). We are really passionate about Bamburgh and the North East coastline and whilst biased, we believe it is the best in the UK. We have had so many wonderful times here that when we got the opportunity to buy Curlew Cottage we could not resist in order for other couples to enjoy this unbelievable coastline.
We hope all of our guests enjoy their time in the North East as much as we do, as there is something for everyone to enjoy including cycling, great walks and beaches, as well as fantastic golf courses and restaurants. We are sure your visit won’t be your last to this great location.”
