Luxury home from home experience. We walked into Earl’s cottage and could not have been happier with the accommodation, it is a perfect base for every season. We loved the log fire burning on winter night but can also imagine being sat in the modern, fresh kitchen on a summers night with the patio doors open, enjoying a glass of wine. The home is child friendly and extremely comfortable with everything you need for your break away. We did not want to leave. lovely comfortable king size beds, huge spacious bedrooms, everything is immaculate and maintained to an extremely high standard. The owners Dave and Norma have spared no expense on delivering a truly beautiful holiday home, attention to detail and quirky little extras really do go along way. Also thank you for the welcome hamper. We have already spoke about booking another stay in the spring.Escape the ordinary read our guest book

Have a trip to Alnwick Castle and Garden, and enjoy a spot of lunch at The Treehouse. Although not cheap to get into the attractions, the tickets do allow entry for a year so it’s an excuse to visit Northumberland again! Make sure you book up in advance at The Treehouse as it’s very popular.

If the weather is a bit rubbish, head up to Barter Books which is an old Victorian train station converted into the most fabulous bookstore, about 10 minutes’ walk from the apartment. Every book you can possibly imagine is here, even some very valuable first additions on display. They have a really lovely café converted from the old waiting rooms in the station if you wanted a nibble and something hot to drink. You can bring old books into Barter Books and exchange them for credits so you can buy something new (or old!) to take home. Pick a good book and get settled in front of one of their many open fires. Dogs and snoozing welcome!

Going to be cooking in whilst on holiday? Be sure to go to Turnbull’s butchers in the centre of Alnwick to get what you need. Not only are their meats the finest around, but they also do Asian inspired stir-frys, the BEST pork pies and other ready-made home cooked meals which are to die for. Click HERE for the website.

A Little Note from the Owners…
“We fell in love with a home that was in need of some love and tender care to bring it back to its best. We had booked a viewing the Saturday morning but we wanted to take a look at the outside that Friday night. I remember seeing the house late that December, Friday evening with snow falling. Take a minute and do what we did. Stand outside and look through the letter box. You’ll see the detail of the balustrade… we fell in love with 4 Grey Place there and then.
With the prospect of refurbishing a Grade II listed building that had an enforcement notice to remove UPVC windows that had been fitted for, at least twenty years and a roof so old it would probably have ‘nail rot’ we undertook a challenge that had stopped the house from being sold for well over a year. Well, the rest is history and that can be found in the visitors information file in the cottage.
On your first evening you’ll get a call from me or Norma, to make sure everything is OK… and we dare you not to fall in love with Earl’s Cottage.”
