A Romantic Village Cottage Full of Charm and Character
We’re delighted to welcome Fuchsia Cottage to our collection of luxury holiday homes in the best locations in Northumberland. This beautiful, romantic retreat is perfect for couples, small families and friends looking to enjoy a relaxing holiday together close to the coast.
Fuchsia Cottage is especially idyllic for couples looking for a romantic and quiet break away. Put your feet up in front of the wood burning stove or relax in the pretty garden overlooking the tranquil fields. There may be the odd sheep or a horse that pops their head over the fence to say hello!
Fuchsia Cottage is in the pretty little village of Christon Bank, less than 2 miles from Embleton with it’s gorgeous sandy beach, which takes around 30 minutes to reach on foot or just a few minutes by car. Christon Bank has a small pub and a small but well-stocked village store.
This single-storey pretty cottage is perfect in every season; great for curling up in front of the fire after a long walk on Embleton Beach or the famous and illusive Sugar Sands, or enjoying dinner ‘al fresco’ in the pretty, flowering garden.
Fuchsia Cottage sleeps 4 guests in 2 bedrooms; 1 double room with a 4ft 6″ size bed and 1 twin bedroom with 3ft single-size beds that can be converted into a superking size upon request. The cottage is single storey and has a family bathroom, lounge with a wood burning stove and a large, light and airy dining kitchen.
This pretty country cottage is also close to the coast and has an enclosed, lawned and furnished garden too which is ideal for hazy summer afternoons.

The cosy lounge has been lovingly restored, retaining the wonderfully rustic exposed-stone inglenook fireplace. The wood-burning stove emits a great amount of heat to this small and cosy room, but the stove isn’t necessary as a main source of heat as full central heating warms the cottage. There’s a Smart TV, DVD player, Bluetooth sound system, books and plenty of board game to occupy a wide range of ages.
The kitchen is large for the size of the house, the owner loves to cook, so you’ll find it particularly well-stocked for dining in! Bedroom one is located at the front of the house with a window looking out to the front. In the summer, Fuchsia flowers grow at the front of the cottage so you can see these from the window depending on the season. The bed is double (4ft 6″ wide) with hypo-allergenic duvet and pillows, plenty of storage and a hair dryer is provided. Luxury linens and fluffy towels provided. If you require a travel cot, it can only be erected in this bedroom due to space.

The pretty garden is well-cared for and has a patio with a table and chairs and a lawned area beyond. There’s a lockable shed in the garden which is perfect for storing bikes, as the garden can be accessed from the front of the property too so you can wheel them round. The garden is enclosed, but the garden overlooks a field with livestock, so you may have the occasional horse or sheep pay you a little visit by sticking their head over the fence!

The moment that we walked through the door of Fuchsia Cottage we were so impressed – it exceeded expectation on every level – total perfection! Everything we needed was provided. We have had a fabulous week exploring Northumberland in Autumn. We have enjoyed coastal walks at Low Newton, Bamburgh and Craster. We loved visiting Cragside, Alnwick Gardens and Berwick Upon Tweed. However the best times were spent in front of the fire in this fabulous cottage – enjoying a glass of wine! Sorry to be leaving but we hope to come again soon. The hamper on arrival was a lovely surprise treat too. Thank you to Bob, Sarah and Coquet Cottages for a smoothly organised stay and a wonderful Cottage.Escape the ordinary read our guest book

Take a trip to Eleanor’s Byre
This hidden gem is a converted farm full of gorgeous things, serving loose leaf tea, exquisite hot chocolate and tasty homemade cakes.

Enjoy a boat ride with a view!
Take a boat tour out to the Farne Islands with Billy Shiel’s boat trips. The tours leave from Seahouses harbour and sail all around the Farne Islands. Some stop at the islands where you can get off the boat and have a tour by one of the local rangers, and each boat tour differs depending on the season and what is nesting/breeding around the island. Billy Shiel’s tours are the largest operator in the town, still ran by all the members of the Shiel family who are the most knowledgeable about the area. Make sure you book in advance as they are incredibly popular, especially after being featured on Robson Green’s famous ‘Tales of Northumberland’! TV series.

Visit Howick Hall & Gardens
This beautiful stately home and amazing gardens are a hidden gem in Northumberland, north of Alnwick. Howick Hall (locally pronounced, ‘Hoick’) was originally the home of Earl Grey.
The Earl Grey tearooms are very well-known to be exceptionally good for a cream tea, so a walk around the gardens, a visit to the house to stock up on your history, finished off by a fresh fruit scone, jam, cream and a pot of Earl Grey tea of course, makes for a wonderful day out.
