Ground Floor

Entrance

There is designated parking for two cars on the private driveway of Harebell House. Additional parking bays are available nearby for a 3rd car, however these are used for visitors of the neighbouring houses too so a space cannot be guaranteed. There is a pretty lawn at the front of the house, and initial entry is through the front door.

The light and spacious entrance hall is furnished with a console table and lamp, and there is an umbrella stand with a few umbrellas provided for guest use – meaning you can dash to and from the nearby pub in any weather!

Ground Floor WC

Just off the hallway is a ground floor WC with wash basin, towel rail, mirror and shelf space.

Living Room

Off the entrance hall to the left is the bright yet cosy living room, containing a 3-seater sofa, 2-seater sofa and comfortable armchair. With a large bay window looking into the back garden and additional window above the sink and bench area, the room is bright and airy. Utility Room and Garage Space

The handy utility room is just off from the kitchen and contains another full-size sink, washer/dryer, shoe rack and coat hooks. The access door to the back garden is from the utility room and as there is side access around from the front of the house, this is a great space to enter with muddy boots and sandy feet! You can access the garage from the utility room too and offers storage space for bikes and other sporting equipment. The iron, ironing board, clothes airer and hoover are stored in the garage. The garage door at the front of the property is electric, so you don’t need to bring bikes and other equipment around to the back of the house.

Map & Local Area

The village of Ellingham has the benefit of a superb Northumbrian gastro-pub called The Pack Horse Inn, which is just a few hundred yards walk easy stroll from the cottage. There are lovely walks from your front door, both around the pretty village or into the nearby countryside.

5 miles from Harebell House is Embleton Village. A bit of a hidden gem along the Northumberland coastal route, Embleton has some fantastic pubs and restaurants such as The Grey’s Inn (with a fabulous beer garden to the rear) and The Dunstanburgh Arms. A walk past the village Golf Course takes you onto the award-winning white sand beach, with views of Dunstanburgh Castle in the distance. The beach runs right the way along to Newton by the Sea, where you’ll find The Ship Inn pub and restaurant, with its own brewery next door!

The beautiful coastal village of Bamburgh is just 6 miles from the cottage, where you will find a dramatically beautiful castle stood proudly on the headlands. Bamburgh is a vibrant little village, with an art gallery, gift shops, renowned butcher, delicatessen, grocers and greengrocer, several pubs, cafes and excellent restaurants – including the highly recommended Potted Lobster. There is also a very good museum dedicated to the local heroine Grace Darling and a very interesting Church.

You’ll also find the coastal village of Beadnell just over 10 minutes easy drive from Ellingham too. Beadnell is most well-known in Northumberland for it’s south-facing bay (the only one on the east coast), the watersports from the old harbour and the great atmosphere in the summer with both locals and tourists.

Other gorgeous villages within an easy 10-15 minute drive of Ellingham are Craster, Alnwick, Low Newton, and Seahouses, or inland you can reach Rothbury, Wooler and the Cheviots in half an hour.

Tips from a local

Head up the A1 and visit Holy Island. Experience the serenity of Lindisfarne Priory, cut off from the world on the beautiful Holy Island, then explore Lindisfarne Castle to discover the interesting stories behind the 16th Century building. The castle is looked after by National Trust, and Lindisfarne Priory is owned by English Heritage, so remember to bring your cards with you if you are a membership holder.

We just ask you to be extra careful with checking your tide times for the causeway, and don’t underestimate how fast that tide comes in!

Fiona and Paul Runcorn

Owners of Harebell House

We asked Fiona and Paul what they love about Harebell House:

“Harebell House is our ‘Happy Place’ for quality family time. We love the beautiful village surroundings and walks and that it is only minutes from fabulous beaches. We have been coming to this area for many years, as a good location for family spread between Scotland and England. Harebell is a Scottish equivalent of a bluebell, which fill the woods around Ellingham in late spring. One of our favourite places to visit is Beadnell Bay, where we often body and paddleboard. The water is usually crystal clear and the sands are immaculate. A winter favourite is a walk along Embleton Bay to Dunstanburgh Castle and on to Craster, followed by a hot chocolate on returning at Embleton golf club. Harebell House is loved by our whole family, with something to keep everyone happy. A place for us to relax, enjoy water sports, walking and cycling but above all recharge.

We hope you have a wonderful stay and enjoy Harebell House as much as we do!

Fiona, Paul, Katherine and Anna”
