Tips from a local

Treat yourself to an Afternoon Tea at The Cookie Jar in Alnwick. Dine within the stunning, historic building of the former Convent of Mercy, in the cosy and stylish bistro. There is a full menu option, but the Afternoon Tea in particular is divine and very reasonably priced too! The Cookie Jar has a real luxurious feel throughout, and the staff are very friendly and welcoming.

Tips from a local

A fun day out for the whole family; visit to Alnwick Castle is an absolute must, especially if you have any Harry Potter fans coming with you! The castle was used when filming scenes in The Great Hall and for many of the external shots. There is a fun tour around the grounds and you can even join in for a broomstick flying lesson too! The history of the castle is fascinating, and with members of the Percy family still residing in the castle, the rooms open to the public are beautifully preserved.

Tips from a local

Explore Thrunton Woods by trying one of their exhilarating walks to experience some of the best loved views of Northumberland from the top of lofty crags, through miles of maturing forest and open moorland. The two most popular trails are Crag Top Walk and Castle Hill Walk. You can park your car in the designated car park at Thrunton Woods and take a picnic on a fine day. Thrunton Woods is just 20 minutes drive west from Alnwick.

Tips from a local

Described as ‘The Jewel in Northumberland’s Golfing Crown’, why not enjoy a round of golf at the Alnmouth links golf course at nearby Foxton? A mere 10 minute drive away from Alnwick, this well-maintained golf course offers something for everyone, and has a welcoming bar and reasonable breakfast and lunch menu too. They serve a Sunday carvery once a month which you need to book for, but please contact them for dates.

Tips from a local

Dine at the newly opened pub and restaurant, Adam & Eve, which is located in the centre of Alnwick. This beautifully furnished restaurant prides itself on serving local farm-to-food inspired meals and offers a selection of mouth-watering cocktails. Adam & Eve is also dog-friendly and has a pretty garden filled with plants and glowing lights to enjoy and evening tipple in!

Ryan and Sam

Owners of Hedwig House

We asked Ryan and Sam what they love about Alnwick…

“We are Ryan and Sam and we live in Alnwick with our 3 year old son Henry.

We are privileged to live in such a wonderful area and enjoy spending time at any of the spectacular local beaches and exploring local walks and parks, and of course the Alnwick Garden and Treehouse. We really are spoilt for choice when it comes to beaches, castles and stunning scenery.

On an evening we like to visit Alnwick Playhouse to watch a film or a local theatre production and often frequent the local bars for a quiet drink or to enjoy a family meal out.”

We are keen to share our lovely local area with visitors and decided to open our own holiday home to enable us to do this. When we saw this house we fell in love with its period features which we felt set it aside from other more modern properties making it a more interesting and fun place to create a holiday home for guests to enjoy. “
