Tips from a local

Visit Warkworth Castle, in the centre of the medieval village just 2 miles away from the cottage. The impressive medieval ruin dates back to the 1100’s, and is now looked after by English Heritage. The history of the castle and village is fascinating, and with its spiral staircases, towers and lawned grounds to explore, the castle provides an excellent afternoon out for all the family.

Tips from a local

Dine in Amble Fishing Town, just about 3 1/2 miles from the cottage, 1 mile past Warkworth. The small but lively town has a number of fantastic restaurants with excellent menus. In particular the seafood in Amble is spectacular as it is caught locally so is as fresh as it comes! Your spoiled for choice with The Old Boat House, The Fish ShackJaspers and Lily’s Landing. Just be sure to book as all of the above get pretty busy with locals and holiday makers alike.

Tips from a local

Druridge Bay Country Park is adjacent to Druridge Bay between Amble and Cresswell, on the coastline of Northumberland. At the country park you have a large play park for children, woodland walks, small nature reserves, a large lake, picnic benches, a visitor centre with refreshments and a beach. Druridge Bay Country Park has all the amenities you will need to enjoy a day with the family!

Tips from a local

Salt & Co is a handcrafted jewellery shop based overlooking the picturesque Amble Harbour! Here you will find sterling silver jewellery, handcrafted by British designer and silversmith Martha. Pop in and see what Martha has to offer, you will be amazed!

Tips from a local

Take a scenic walk from Warkworth to Craster, known as stage 2 of the coastal walk (13 miles). Please click HERE for more information and click HERE for a review of the walk carried out by others visiting the area.  If you want to treasure your memories apply for a Northumberland Passport pack online before you arrive in the area to tick off the stages of each walk you do.

Owners of Hermitage Cottage

A Little Note from the Owners…

“We loved Hermitage Cottage from the moment we set foot in it, probably because it combines all the benefits of modern accommodation with a cosy cottage feel.  Its location is fantastic too – wonderfully peaceful yet less than 5 miles from Warkworth, Alnwick, Alnmouth and Amble, all of which offer lots to see and do.

As a family we love getting out into the countryside, walking Northumberland’s beaches and coastal footpaths and exploring the local area by cycling the quiet country roads which surround Hermitage Cottage.”
