Christine and Alan
Owners of Horseshoe Cottage
We asked Alan and Christine what they love about Horseshoe Cottage:
“We knew when we came to view the mill that it was a special place (it dates back to 1539) and somewhere we wanted to retire to. We love the coast and county and as it is a quick drive to the most amazing beaches, whilst coming back to gorgeous countryside, we feel we have the best of both worlds living here. The mill and cottages are in such a lovely peaceful setting and a lot of time is spent outside looking after the gardens and just enjoying the outside space.
Horseshoe Cottage was once the stable block for the mill. It was dark & cold and used for storage before we decided to convert it in 2020. We took the name from the old horseshoes nailed to the beam in the kitchen and it is now a comfortable, cosy, light filled space.
There is a small seating area at the end of the cottage overlooking the stream, gardens and wood. The grounds always have something to offer no matter what the weather or season. Watch the dippers bobbing about or the trout rise in the stream, hares running down the drive or get a glimpse of a deer or red squirrel scurrying about in the wood opposite. Summers are filled with the noise of birds and in winter it turns magical with the snow and sometimes rare ice pancakes in the stream. At night, the dark sky is amazing for stargazing with a glass of something lovely in hand.
We hope guests will enjoy their time here as much as we do living here!”
