Map & Local Area

Jolliffe couldn’t be better positioned within Bamburgh Village. It’s perfect for both adults and children, with lots to do and explore from your doorstep. For children, there is the cricket green, tennis courts and play area just in front of the house before you reach the beach on the main green in front of the castle, not to mention the shared garden of Castle Garth. Then of course you have the magnificent beach, no more than 5-7 minutes walk away from Jolliffe.

For the older children and the adults, the main street of the village can be reached in less than 3 minutes on foot, where you will find a fine selection of restaurants such as The Potted Lobster, pubs including the Lord Crewe Arms and quaint gift shops, green grocer, famous butchers, ‘Carters’ and other cafes and delis. You’ll be spoiled for choice!

At the top of the village you can find the Grace Darling museum, who was the local heroine that saved several men from a shipwreck just off the coast of Bamburgh. It’s free entry, so definitely worth a pop in to brush up on your local history.

There are plenty of walks from Bamburgh, as well as the obvious beautiful beach walks close by. Wildlife buffs can walk to Budle Bay heading north away from the castle. 3 miles south you will find Seahouses where you can easily reach by walking along the dunes or the beach. The rest of the Northumbrian coastline can easily be reached by bike or car, with some fantastic cycle routes around our county.

All in all, Jolliffe in Bamburgh is not only a luxurious base for a holiday, but a perfect destination all year round.

Tips from a local

Taste the most delicious, locally sourced seafood at The Potted Lobster positioned in the heart of Bamburgh village. The Potted Lobster has a real Mediterranean feel inside the restaurant with beautiful décor. Why not try it’s famous potted lobster starter which is a mixture of local lobster, brown shrimp, fresh crab and smoked salmon set in butter and served with warm toast (think post potted shrimp!) and wash it down with a local ale or glass of wine. Be sure to book well in advance as it’s a very popular restaurant!

Tips from a local

Experience a relaxing, well-earned pamper day at Beau Monde in Lucker. Located just a 10-minue drive from Bamburgh, Beau Monde is the ideal place to relax, unwind and rejuvenate whilst on holiday. There is a range of spa packages and treatments available to chose from or you can just grab a drink and unwind on a lounger by the pool.

Tips from a local

Visit Bamburgh Castle! This historic landmark is right on the doorstep of Farne View and is an interesting place to visit. You can take a tour of the castle and the grounds and the views of the village beach from the castle walls are spectacular. Please click HERE for more details and how to book.

Tips from a local

You must visit Carters Butchers on Bamburgh main street and sample the famous ‘Bamburgh Banger’. Carters Butchers is a family-run business and has been open since 1887, most famous for it’s divine pork pies and other meat pies, baked fresh that morning – so once they’re gone, they’re gone!

Tips from a local

Take a boat tour out to the Farne Islands with Billy Shiel’s boat trips. This is a must when you come to Northumberland, especially as you are so close to Seahouses. The tours leave from Seahouses harbour and sail all around the Farne Islands.  Some stop at the islands where you can get off the boat and have a tour by one of the local rangers, and each boat tour differs depending on the season and what is nesting/breeding around the island. Billy Shiel’s tours are the largest operator in the town, still ran by all the members of the Shiel family who are the most knowledgeable about the area. Make sure you book in advance as they are incredibly popular, especially after being featured on the popular TV series with Robson Green’s ‘Tales from Northumberland’!
