Lavender House in Alnmouth is just a few minutes’ easy stroll to fabulous Alnmouth beach and the heart of the historic village and has a fabulous coastal vibe.  It has Ballamory style houses and a good range of friendly pubs, restaurants, shops, as well as the very popular Old School Art Gallery.

Lavender House is also centrally situation in Northumberland, giving easy access to all the attractions including Bamburgh with its iconic castle on the beach,The Farne Islands, Holy Island, the medieval and picturesque village of Warkworth and Alnwick, with its world-famous Alnwick Garden and Alnwick Castle, which was the setting for Harry Potter’s Hogwarts School and Braveheart. Lavender House is also a perfect base for a walking or cycling holiday.  There are many great routes in the area encompassing coastal, countryside and beach routes.

Lavender House in Alnmouth sleeps a maximum of 6 guests in 1 double and 2 twin/super-king rooms (convertible rooms are made up, as standard, as single beds but can be converted to super king size (6ft wide) beds upon request, please see bedroom descriptions below), with 1 bathroom and 2 shower rooms. The house has 3 storeys, with 2 of the bedrooms on the ground floor, the living space on the first floor and the master bedroom on the 2nd floor.

2 dogs are welcome at Lavender House in Alnmouth for a charge of £20 each. Free Wi-fi is available throughout the house. No children under the age of 8 permitted.


At the front entrance there’s a small porch for leaving shoes. The hallway leads to bedroom’s 2 and 3, the shower room, bathroom and utility room.

Bedroom 2

This pretty bedroom is made up as twin beds as standard (each 3ft wide). However, they can be made up as a super king size (6ft wide) upon request, as shown in the photo.  Please ensure you request this upon booking. Fresh, crisp linens and fluffy white towels are all provided. The shower room opposite serves this bedroom.


Bedroom 3

Facing the front of the house with large windows, this lovely bedroom is also made up as twin beds (each 3ft wide) as standard. However, it can be made up as a super king size (6ft wide) upon request.  Please ensure you request this upon booking. Fluffy white towels and crisp white linens provided. The Jack and Jill style bathroom serves this bedroom too.



Accessed from both bedroom 3 and the hallway, this Jack and Jill style bathroom is fully tiled, modern and spacious with a shower over bath, wash hand basin, WC and heated towel rail. Complimentary Elemis toiletries are provided for all adult guests.

Shower Room

This compact, fully tiled shower room has a walk-in shower, WC, wash hand basin and heated towel rail and is located opposite bedroom 2.  Complimentary Elemis toiletries are provided for all adult guests.

Utility Room

A great space for dogs to sleep and for storing extra coats and shoes.  This useful room has a sink, lots of cupboard storage, a washing machine, tumble dryer, iron and ironing board.

First Floor

Stairs from the hallway lead to the first floor, which is completely open-plan, consisting of the kitchen, dining area and lounge, and also leading out of the French doors to the patio.

This bright and spacious room has windows on 3 elevations and is perfect for a family to relax. The lounge has comfy leather sofas and an armchair you can sink into. The Scandinavian wood burner gives that touch of country cottage yet keeping the feel of the room modern and fresh.  An initial supply of logs is provided between October and April. Board games for all ages can be found in the lounge.

The Smart TV has access to Netflix and all the catch up shows. There’s a selection of music, books and films.


The kitchen is exceptionally well equipped, with granite worktops and a huge fridge/freezer. There’s also an electric double-oven, gas hob, dishwasher, microwave, toaster, kettle and coffee percolator. The light and airy kitchen looks out to the patio.

The dining area has a modern round glass table with seating for 6.


Patio Garden

Completely enclosed, private and a sun trap, the furnished patio garden is great for warm days and balmy evenings, relaxing with children and dogs after a day at the beach. The table and chairs provides enough seating for 6, with an additional cafe-style table and chairs. This garden area is gravelled.


Second Floor

The stairs from the open plan living area lead to the master bedroom on the second floor with an en-suite shower room.


Master Bedroom

Occupying the whole of the second floor, the master bedroom is bright and neutral, with a fresh interior. White, crisp linens and fluffy towels all add to the ‘hotel’ feel of the room. The bed is king size (5ft wide) and there’s plenty of storage space with a huge chest of drawers and wardrobe cupboards. There’s also a Smart TV.


En suite Shower Room

En suite to the master bedroom, the shower room has a walk-in shower, WC, wash hand basin and heated towel rail. Complimentary Elemis toiletries are provided for adult guests.


Parking is on a private driveway in front of the house for two cars. If you have a third car, it will need to be parked in the village car park. Camper vans, caravans, boats, vans or any commercial vehicles are strictly not permitted next to the house. These can be parked in the village car park.

The pretty patio-garden is quite a sun trap, part paved and part gravelled.  With a table and chairs and a charcoal BBQ, it’s the perfect space to relax and dine outside. Whilst the garden is at first floor level, you can get access from the front of the house via a side gate and up a flight of steps, it’s fully enclosed.

There is a BBQ provided at Lavender House, which is available all year round. Please bring your own utensils and charcoal. Please ensure the BBQ is cleaned prior to your departure. Alternatively you could bring your own portable or disposable BBQ to use responsibly at the beach.

One double bedroom with a king-size bed (5ft wide) on the top floor. On the ground floor, there are 2 bedrooms. Both bedrooms are twin rooms with 2 single size beds in each (3ft wide), that can both be converted into super king size beds (6ft wide). Please ensure you request this upon booking  – must be requested 7 days before arrival or request will not be possible. Hypo-allergenic synthetic bedding and pillows are provided on each bed. There is no alternative available.

The twin bedroom en suite bathroom has a shower over the bath, WC and basin with heated towel rail. The other 2 en suites have a shower cubicle, WC and basin. Towels and luxury complimentary toiletries by Noble Isle.

Up to 2 dogs welcome.  Booking Conditions apply, see more details on our Dogs page.  Dogs are not permitted on furniture and strictly not to be left in the cottage unattended.  Dog sitting service available, contact us to request.

Please be Aware

We regret we cannot accept children under 8 years of age at Lavender House, but children age 8 and over are welcome. If we receive a booking with a child under 8 years of age we regrettably will not be able to accept it.

Lavender House is situated in a quiet area of Alnmouth and just a minutes’ walk away from the interesting ‘Old School Gallery’.

Alnmouth is a pretty coastal village with a great range of places to eat and drink and quirky little independent shops to browse.

Alnmouth beach is a beautiful golden sandy beach which is dog friendly all year round and just a short, pleasant walk away from Lavender House.

Alnwick is just 10 minutes’ drive north, where there are many restaurants and shops; the world-famous book store ‘Barter Books’; Alnwick Castle and the world class attraction of Alnwick Garden and Treehouse.

The delightful medieval village of Warkworth is just 4 miles south of Alnmouth, where there is a good range of pubs, restaurants, cafes, lovely quirky shops and art galleries. The magnificent castle is fascinating to explore and there are lovely riverside walks, where the River Coquet encircles the village before meandering out to sea.  The magnificent sandy beach at Warkworth is over 5 miles long and is just a few minutes’ walk from the centre of the village (or drive and park free of charge).

Head over the road to The Old School Gallery and view the interesting exhibitions of local artists, have a browse around the gift shop, and relax with a brew and slice of cake in the cosy tea room.

In the summer, the gallery boasts street food available in their pretty courtyard for you to enjoy in the sun.

Have a chilled day on Alnmouth Beach. Take a picnic hamper, flask of tea, bucket and spade and kite and enjoy a traditional seaside afternoon on the stunning Northumberland coastline.

Scott’s of Alnmouth is a really up-market deli in the centre of the village which sells some gorgeous tasty nibbles, perfect for a picnic. Be sure to stop buy and pick up some treats before heading down to the beach.

Tips from a local

Head up to Barter Books in Alnwick (about 3 1/2 miles from the cottage) which is an old Victorian train station converted into the most fabulous bookstore. Every book you can imagine is here, even some very valuable first additions on display. They have a lovely café converted from the old waiting rooms in the station if you wanted a nibble and something hot to drink.

As the name suggests, you can bring old books into Barter Books and exchange them for credits so you can buy something new (or old!) to take home. Pick a good book and get settled in front of one of their many open fires. Dogs and snoozing welcome!

The Whittling House, Alnmouth -Newly opened is a delightful restaurant serving good food using Northumberland produce. It’s conveniently located on the main street of Alnmouth.

The Whittling House is open every day for breakfast, lunch and dinner. We’d definitely recommend you book a table ahead of time to ensure your place.

Tips from a local

A fun day out for the whole family – A visit to Alnwick Castle is an absolute must, especially if you have any Harry Potter fans coming with you! The castle was used when filming scenes in The Great Hall and for many of the external shots. There is a fun tour around the grounds and you can even join in for a broomstick flying lesson too!

The history of the castle is fascinating, and with members of the Percy family still residing in the castle, the rooms open to the public are beautifully preserved.

A Little Note from the Owners…

“We bought Lavender House after falling in love with the area and we wanted to a holiday home to visit that wasn’t too far from home. It seemed such a shame to not share this with others and then our holiday let was born.

We’re dog owners so we wanted somewhere that had an outside area that was secure enough for our dogs so we could relax when sitting outside. It’s handy to have the beach down the road too, where you can head to in a morning then grab a coffee or lunch on the way home.

We wanted somewhere that we can arrive to, relax and switch off in luxury, with everything at your fingertips. Alnmouth is perfect for that as you don’t need to get in the car all weekend if you don’t want to!

We hope you enjoy your holiday at Lavender House as much as we enjoy spending time here. Alnmouth has stolen a bit of our hearts and we dare you not to fall in love with it too.”
