Lilac Cottage is very comfortable and was ideal for our needs. Clean, tidy, warm, and welcoming. We would be very happy to revisit! The location was perfect for our plans, the property looked very attractive on your website, and it catered for all our needs.  The beds were very comfortable, the log burner was great, and both the kitchen and bathroom were of a high standard. It was nice that the owner was sufficiently interested to get in touch and ensure we were happy.

Tips from a local

Walk to Alnmouth beach from the cottage, as it only takes around 20 minutes on foot. Alnmouth beach is a stunning stretch of several miles of golden sandy beach. Dogs are welcome on the whole beach all year round, and you can pop into the one of the pubs for a hearty pub lunch after a brisk walk – we recommend The Sun Inn and The Red Lion because your dog can join you too!

Tips from a local

Head over the road to The Old School Gallery in Alnmouth and view the interesting exhibitions of local artists, have a browse around the gift shop, and relax with a brew and slice of cake in the cosy tea room. You can walk from the cottage, or drive which will take about 3-4 minutes.

In the summer, the gallery boasts street food available in their pretty courtyard for you to enjoy in the sun, from artisan pizzas to vegetarian delights.

Tips from a local

Have a drive up the coastal route, to reach the villages of Embleton, Craster, Beadnell, Seahouses and Bamburgh. Embleton beach is beautiful and Howick Hall and Gardens near Craster is stunning – a bit of a hidden gem here in Northumberland.

Tips from a local

The Whittling House, Alnmouth -Newly opened is a delightful restaurant serving good food using Northumberland produce. It’s conveniently located on the main street of Alnmouth. The Whittling House is open every day for breakfast, lunch and dinner. We’d definitely recommend you book a table ahead of time to ensure your place.

Tips from a local

Head up to Barter Books in Alnwick (about 3 1/2 miles from the cottage) which is an old Victorian train station converted into the most fabulous bookstore. Every book you can imagine is here, even some very valuable first additions on display. They have a lovely café converted from the old waiting rooms in the station if you wanted a nibble and something hot to drink. As the name suggests, you can bring old books into Barter Books and exchange them for credits so you can buy something new (or old!) to take home. Pick a good book and get settled in front of one of their many open fires. Dogs and snoozing welcome!

Lynsey Hirst

Owner of Lilac Cottage

We asked Lynsey what she loves about the area:

“We fell in love with the picturesque village of Lesbury which has a great location being so close to all the fantastic amenities of Alnwick, close to Warkworth and Amble, and in walking distance of our favourite beach at Alnmouth.

We spend our time walking on the beach with our dog Polly often followed by a coffee from the wonderful Scott’s deli.

We love the amazing seafood restaurants in Amble and Craster. In the summer we enjoy lobster and chips on the beach and in winter we love lighting the fire for a cozy night in.”
