We have fallen in love with Warkworth, this is our third visit and have already booked our fourth visit in September. All Coquet Cottages are wonderful. We loved Magdalene House, so light and welcoming. Thank you for the hampers, a lovely touch. We’ve had four days of sunshine. Perfect. Had our evening meals at The Masons Arms, very nice but be aware of very big portions – not a bad complaint to have. The house was very clean and had everything we could ever want. Thank you for a lovely short break. Just wish we could of stayed longer.

Tips from a local
Get on the beach with a disposable BBQ and have a picnic BBQ on the beach! Warkworth beach is never crowded, so you will have it mostly to yourselves! The best part to have a BBQ is the furthest south end of the beach, where it’s nice and flat but sheltered from any strong winds. Go to The Amble Butcher on Amble High Street for the best sausages!
Tips from a local
Have a walk along to Amble along the beautiful Coquet Estuary – it should take around 20 minutes on foot and it follows the Coquet Estuary with its abundance of wildlife. Cut through the boatyard to get to the harbour front and watch the trawlers come in. The harbour market on Sunday is interesting and you may even get some bargins! If you visit in the cooler months, be sure to where your thermals and be well-wrapped up. That North Sea air is refreshing yet bitter!

Planning a pre-Christmas break to get you in the spirit? Tie your holiday in with the Warkworth Christmas Shopping evening. It generally happens on the last Friday in November, where most of the shops open in the village for late shopping and mince pies and bubbly. The church host’s tombola’s, raffles and other fun games and the Memorial Hall opens for local retailers to showcase their Christmas stock. The pubs have the best atmosphere on this night, as it is a big community evening to all get in the spirit of Christmas and you can get a head start on your Christmas shopping! If you are planning to eat out in the village that night, make sure you get booked up in advance.

The best ice-cream in the area has to be Spurreli’s! Located on Coquet Street in Amble is this boutique ice-cream parlour which produces artisan ice cream and sorbet using milk and cream from Marley Cote walls farm in Hexham. There is also a range of vegan, dairy, gluten free ice cream, sundaes, and cakes. The flavours are amazing and unique! Both indoor and outdoor seating is available. Do not miss out!

Probably the most atmospheric pub in Warkworth, The Masons Arms, serving good pub food in a nice setting right in the centre of the village. They serve hearty food each day and Sunday lunch, you can even take your dog with you too. They occasionally have live music on during the year, so keep an eye out on their website. They have a huge beer garden that’s all been recently refurbished with a pizza hut and more, which is a sun trap too.
Julie and Mark Ringland
We asked the owners of Magdalene House, Julie and Mark, what they love most about the house:
“We designed the house to feel like a home from home, as something a bit different from the other traditional cottages. The huge bay window in the lounge lets in lots of natural light, which really compliments the colours in the room. At Christmas we carry the same colour theme through the house, so it looks absolutely magical.
Each room is so spacious, especially the bedrooms. We liked that all guests will feel like they have their own space here, and no one draws the ‘short straw’ with the bedrooms!
We have added lots of extra little touches in the house, such as a ‘Forgotten Something Box’, which contains essentials from a toothbrush to batteries – just in case you left something at home. We want our guests to feel that everything is catered for in Magdalene House, so when they walk through the door they can instantly relax.”
