Nursery Cottage in Alnwick is a Grade II listed cottage and has been lovingly restored from a former gardener’s cottage to Alnwick Castle on the site of the old Clive Nurseries. Situated within the bounds of the town itself, the cottage is in a quiet residential area. With the benefit of a private, secluded front garden and patio area and stunning views of Alnwick Castle with the Moors beyond from the floor-to-ceiling master bedroom window, this little cottage is a real gem.
The easy stroll into the heart of Alnwick town, with a wide range of restaurants, pubs and shops, is around 10-15 minutes. Alnwick is also home to Alnwick Castle and the world-class Alnwick Garden, with its fabulous Treehouse – creatively housing a unique restaurant. With a central location, it provides easy access to all the ‘must-see’ attractions in Northumberland, including Bamburgh, The Farne Islands, Holy Island, the medieval and picturesque village of Warkworth, and Alnmouth, with its famous ‘Balamory style’ seaside houses. Nursery Cottage is in the heart of great walking and cycling country too.

Nursery Cottage has been awarded 4 Stars by VisitEngland, as well as a prestigious GOLD AWARD for excellence. It sleeps up to 3 plus a cot and highchair can be provided upon request. Nursery cottage welcomes 2 dogs for a small charge of £20 each.
A cosy lounge with a large original Georgian sash window looking out to the pretty garden and not overlooked. 43″ HD Smart TV (not shown in photo below) with full access to Netflix, DVD player, Hi-fi with iPod dock. Free Wi-fi and PlayStation 2 games console with a small selection of games. There is a feature fireplace with attractive electric fire, a selection of books, DVD’s and games.
The spacious kitchen has a dining table and chairs for up to 4 people and is well equipped with all the usual appliances, including electric fan oven, gas hob, microwave, Nespresso coffee machin, integrated large fridge/freezer, washing machine and slimline dishwasher. There is a glazed door leading directly to the pretty patio outside.

Once the former Nursery for the Alnwick Garden, this gorgeous old cottage has been beautifully restored as a boutique hideaway in medieval Alnwick. Soft colours with a wealth of home comforts make this cottage the perfect base for a relaxing holiday in Northumberland.

Two dogs welcome for a small charge of £20 per holiday. Dog sitting services available. Booking conditions apply. Dogs must be at least 1yr old, are not permitted on the furniture or beds or to be left unattended in the cottage.
The pretty little garden is fenced with a white picket fence and lawned, with a furnished patio.
There’s private parking for one car in front of the garage (garage not in use). The garage is an easy 50-60 yard walk from the cottage. Additional free parking is just 50 yards away from the private space.

Accommodation on 2 floors; ground floor has the dining kitchen and lounge and on the first floor there are the 2 bedrooms and bathroom. There’s a bath and separate walk-in shower. There’s one stone step up to the front door. The staircase is normal, with 3 steps up to the master room and another 4 steps up to the single room and bathroom.
Please be Aware
Unlimited Wi-fi is provided however it cannot be guaranteed as it is provided by a third party, so it may go down at times or the speed not be as fast as you may be used to at home, which is outside of the cottage owner’s control. If it’s essential for you we recommend you bring your own mobile device.
The garage is not designed to be able to park your car in as the refuse bins and other gardening tools are kept in there. If you can fit your car in there then you are more than welcome to use it, as long as the owner’s belongings are not damaged and the owner accepts no responsibility for any damage to your car.

There is no BBQ provided at Nursery Cottage. Due to the surroundings and setting, it is not suitable to bring your own.
Bikes can be stored securely in the locked garage. The stand-alone garage is located around 50 yards from the property, where you park your car.
Care of the Property
Our ‘Coquet’ cottages are much-loved privately-owned holiday homes into which our owners have lavished much care and investment to create beautiful places for their guests to enjoy. We therefore require a cautionary Good Housekeeping Deposit to protect our owners’ property, so that if damage/breakages occur or exceptional cleaning over and above the usual changeover clean is required up to the value of the deposit, the owner can be recompensed.
You have the option of paying either a £150 refundable Good Housekeeping Deposit or a smaller non-refundable £12 Deposit Waiver, which covers you to the value of £150. Please choose which option you prefer when booking. Click HERE for more information.

Nursery Cottage is tucked away in a private, more residential area of Alnwick, away from the hustle and bustle yet just a very easy 10 minute walk into the centre. It is elevated above the town to give you picture-postcard views of Alnwick Castle and the moors beyond.
The Castle, Gardens and Treehouse can all be reached on foot as well as all the cafe’s, pubs, shops and restaurants in Alnwick – including Barter Books!
The coast is just 4 miles away where you can find the pretty, seaside village of Alnmouth. The National Park is just half an hour away in the car too as well as Cragside and the market town of Rothbury. Alnwick is a very central place to be based in Northumberland as everywhere is so accessible from this buzzing historic town.

Tips from a local
If the weather is a somewhat inclement, head up to Barter Books, an old Victorian train station converted into the most fabulous bookstore, about 15 minutes’ easy walk from the cottage. Every book you can imagine is here, even some very valuable first additions on display. They have a lovely café converted from the old waiting rooms in the station if you wanted a nibble and something hot to drink.
As the name suggests, you can bring old books into Barter Books and exchange them for credits so you can buy something new (or old!) to take home. Pick a good book and get settled in front of one of their many open fires. Dogs and snoozing welcome!
Tips from a local
Treat yourself to an Afternoon Tea at The Cookie Jar in Alnwick. Dine within the stunning, historic building of the former Convent of Mercy, in the cosy and stylish bistro. There is a full menu option, but the Afternoon Tea in particular is divine and very reasonably priced too! The Cookie Jar has a real luxurious feel throughout, and the staff are very friendly and welcoming.
Tips from a local
Explore Thrunton Woods by trying one of their exhilarating walks to experience some of the best loved views of Northumberland from the top of lofty crags, through miles of maturing forest and open moorland.
The two most popular trails are Crag Top Walk and Castle Hill Walk. You can park your car in the designated car park at Thrunton Woods and take a picnic on a fine day. Thrunton Woods is just 20 minutes drive west from Alnwick.
Tips from a local
Treat yourselves to Sunday lunch at The Market Tavern Steakhouse in Alnwick on Fenkle Street, around 10 minutes easy walk from the cottage.
The restaurant itself is good on any day, but their Sunday lunches are a favourite with the locals. The atmosphere is cosy and romantic and they serve until 8pm on Sunday.

Head to the coast and enjoy a day at Alnmouth, just 10 minutes’ drive from Alnwick.
This gorgeous, historic village is full of character, with beautiful buildings and of course a breath-taking view over the dunes, sandy beach and out to sea from the bottom of the main street.
There are some lovely, friendly spots for a bite to eat (The Red Lion Pub and Restaurant, The Hope and Anchor Bar and Restaurant, and The Village Tea Rooms Cafe to name a few favourites!) and in the summer you can purchase some fab local produce from Scott’s of Alnmouth deli and dine alfresco on the shore.

We asked Stephanie what made her fall in love with Nursery Cottage:
“The walk up to the cottage is very pretty and you really get a feel for the history of the building. The little garden at the front is so peaceful and gets the sun in a morning – perfect to side outside with a book and a cup of coffee.
Waking up to the amazing view of Alnwick Castle is just priceless, it still impresses me every time I see it. The best is very early in a morning when the sun is just rising, when the mist still covers the moors beyond the castle. It really does look magical!
I love how close the cottage is to the centre of Alnwick without it being too busy. Alnwick is very central to the whole of the county too, so it’s really easy to get to the beach at Alnmouth, but my personal favourite beach is at Warkworth.
Nursery Cottage is very cosy and comfortable, and is my escape from the hectic pace of every day life!
