Once Upon A Tide is a beautifully renovated mid-terrace Victorian cottage, situated in the town centre – a stone’s throw from the gorgeous Amble Marina.
This stylish retreat sleeps up to six guests in three bedrooms with two bathrooms. With a spacious open-plan kitchen and living area, Once Upon A Tide is a practical and sociable house, ideal for friends and family to gather together, kitted out with all the luxury comforts you could want for your seaside holiday.
Excellent restaurants, boutique shops, cosy cafes and an award winning ice cream parlour are just a few minutes’ walk from your doorstep. Stunning Amble harbour, beach and pier are a short stroll away too. The house benefits from a pretty, enclosed patio garden to the rear to enjoy the fresh, sea air in privacy, has off-street parking for one car and welcomes up to one small to medium-sized dog.

Once Upon A Tide in Amble has been beautifully renovated with luxury and comfort in mind. With three bedrooms, one bathroom and one shower room, an open plan living room and dining kitchen, and an additional sun room, this cottage is ideal for families and friends holidaying together. As the location is so central within Amble town, everything is on your doorstep. The cottage is situated on one of the oldest streets of the town so whilst it’s centrally located, it’s fairly quiet inside due to the thick stone exterior. The beaches, dunes, pier and working Amble Harbour can be reached in a few minutes on foot. Nearby you’ll find Warkworth village, just a mile and a half northwards up the estuary. Here you’ll find Warkworth castle and a 5 mile stretch of golden sandy beach, as well as a handful of dog-friendly pubs and quaint independent gift shops.
There is free Wi-Fi broadband access available throughout the cottage and one well behaved dog is very welcome.
There is designated parking for one car behind the cottage, so guests initially enter through the pretty patio garden and in to the Sun Room via the back door. The front door of the cottage opens out onto High Street in the town centre, with all amenities very close by. In the front entrance hall, there is shoe storage, a shelf unit and hanging hooks provided.
Ground Floor Shower Room
At the end of the entrance hallway is the shower room containing a corner shower, toilet, wash basin with a mirror above and a heated towel rail.
Open-Plan Lounge and Kitchen
Again off the entrance hallway, the lounge at Once Upon A Tide has a real wow-factor. The gorgeous stonework has been exposed and framed in modern, ambient ceiling lighting. There is an impressively large stone inglenook with a real wood burning stove (logs provided October-April). The lounge also contains a three-seater sofa, two-seater sofa, a comfortable armchair and side tables. There is a wall-mounted Smart TV with a Netflix account provided for guest use and board games and books provided. The south-facing sash window has modern wood shutters, tastefully retaining the charm of the property.
The lounge and dining kitchen is open-plan and all mains lighting has a dimmer switch fitted in this room, making this a cosy hosting space for guests to gather together.
Dining Kitchen Area
A peninsula prep area and breakfast bar subtly divides the kitchen and living space, and contains a small sink – ideal for chilling a bottle of bubbly! Two bar stools are provided at the breakfast bar, with gorgeous pendant lighting above. There is a large dining table with seating for six guests in the kitchen too.
The kitchen is spacious and very well-equipped. There is a dual-fuel range cooker with gas hob and electric oven, set in a pretty inglenook with overhead lighting. Conveniently tucked around the corner from the main living area, there is an integrated fridge/ freezer, integrated dishwasher, full size sink, microwave, toaster, kettle and Nespresso coffee machine.
Located at the back of the cottage and accessed from the kitchen, the Sun Room provides additional lounge space for guests to relax and look out the large north-facing window to the pretty patio. There is a two-seater sofa and an occasional table. The main access door to the patio is through the Sun Room.
From the Sun Room, the Utility Room contains the laundry facilities; a washing machine, clothes airer, iron and ironing board. There is shoe storage and hanging hooks provided, as there is another external door to the patio from the Utility Room, so this is great place to enter with muddy boots and wet coats!
Stairs lead from the entrance hall up to the first floor, where you’ll find all three bedrooms and the family bathroom.
The family bathroom has been beautifully decorated with wood panelling and soft, coastal tones. There is a slipper bath with hand-held shower attachment, separate large walk in shower, toilet, wash basin with mirror above, heated towel rail and a shelf storage unit.
The largest bedroom is situated at the back of the house and offers stunning views from the north-facing window of Warkworth Castle in the distance. The River Coquet can be spotted meandering from Amble to Warkworth Village at high tide too.
This bedroom contains a kingsize bed (5 ft wide), bedside tables with lamps, chest of drawers with a mirror and a lamp, feature hanging rail and a chair. Luxury bed linen, fluffy towels and a hairdryer are provided.
This room has twin single beds (3ft wide), bedside tables with lamps, a feature hanging rail, drawer storage and a wall mounted mirror, shelf and pouffe stool seat. This room is at the front of the house and has a large, south-facing sash window with wooden shutters. Luxury bed linen, fluffy towels and a hair dryer provided.
In the third bedroom of Once Upon A Tide, the beds can either be set as twin single beds (3 ft wide), or can be converted into a super-kingsize double (6 ft wide) on request. (Please select your preferred bed configuration when booking). The room also contains two bedside tables with drawer storage and lamps, and a wall-mounted hanging rail. Again, luxury wooden shutters are fitted at the south-facing sash window. Luxury bed linen, fluffy towels and a hair dryer provided.
The patio garden at Once Upon A Tide contains an outdoor two-seater sofa, four lounge chairs and a coffee table. As it is north-facing, the garden benefits from the sun in the afternoon and on into the evening in the summer months – ideal for enjoying the fresh, sea air in privacy. There is an outdoor cold water tap near the side door to the utility room, handy for rinsing off muddy boots, sandy feet and seaweedy dogs!
There is one parking space for guests at Once Upon A Tide in the residential parking bays behind the cottage. Additional cars may be briefly parked in the carpark while guests unload their luggage, but must then be promptly moved to a nearby public, residential street.

1 well-behaved small to medium-sized dog (no bigger than a Labrador) is welcome at Once Upon A Tide for a charge of £20. Dogs must be fully house-trained and over 1 year old.
3 bedrooms; 1 king size room, 1 twin room, and 1 bedroom that can be set as either twin singles or a superking bed on request, all on the first floor.
All bedding and pillows are non-feather, suitable for those with allergies.
There is a shower room on the ground floor accessed from the entrance hallway, containing a corner shower, toilet, wash basin, heated towel rail and mirror. The family bathroom is on the first floor and has a slipper bath with shower attachment and a separate walk-in shower, toilet, wash basin, mirror and heated towel rail. Towels and complimentary toiletries are provided.
The enclosed patio garden is furnished with lounge seating for 6 and an outdoor coffee table. There is access to the residential parking area at the back of the property from the patio garden too. From the house, the garden is accessed from the sun room and the handy utility/ boot room.
There is no BBQ provided at Once Upon A Tide but you would be welcome to bring your own for use on the paved or gravelled areas only.

There is one parking space for Once Upon A Tide guests in the residents’ parking bays at the back of the property. Additional on-street parking can be found nearby.
Please Note: Once Upon A Tide is on High Street in Amble, just off the A1068 road. There is a pub, The Wellwood Arms directly opposite the cottage with outdoor seating at the front. Once Upon A Tide is stone-built and has double glazing in all windows, so traffic noise is not very noticeable inside the property, but can be heard slightly from the front rooms of the cottage. Similarly, you may hear people coming and going from the pub/ restaurant, again from the front rooms of the cottage, particularly on a Friday and Saturday evening in the summer months. We don’t anticipate that this will disturb you on holiday, but please do bear this in mind when booking this property.
Map & Local Area
Once Upon A Tide is located in the very heart of Amble Fishing Town, with all amenities right on your doorstep. The very popular Wellwood Arms pub is directly opposite the cottage, perfect for nipping over for an evening drink in the beer garden or a hearty pub meal in the cosy bar or restaurant in the winter months. All shops and amenities on the main street are just 2 minutes’ walk away, with Amble marina, harbour, pier, beach, and excellent seafood restaurants on the quayside all accessible within 10 minutes on foot.
The coastline and harbour are very interesting in Amble as you can watch the fishing boats come and go. The little shore is at the southern end of Amble with a little beach before you reach the promenade and the pier. The views of Coquet Island from the pier are beautiful. A mile south is Hauxley Nature Reserve which has a whole host of different wildlife to spot all year round. Both Hauxley Beach and Druridge Bay can be reached on foot if you’re up for a coastal hike along the beach and dunes from Amble.
One mile north you will find the medieval village of Warkworth with its impressive castle at the top of the village. Warkworth is very easy to reach on foot, following the walk along the Coquet estuary from the harbour until you reach the castle. In Warkworth you’ll find a great selection of village pubs (no less than 4 to choose from!) and a 5-mile golden sandy beach accessible from the north end of the village.
Amble is an excellent place to be based to enjoy a great range of restaurants and cafes, and its wonderful to have the beautiful coastal landscape on your doorstep. It’s very easy to reach from Amble a host of other popular places in Northumberland such as Rothbury country village and the nearby Simonside Hills and Ingram Valley, the traditional coastal villages of Embleton, Craster and Bamburgh, to the central market town of Alnwick with the world-class Alnwick Garden and Castle to experience. Everywhere in Northumberland is easy to reach from Once Upon A Tide in Amble.

Tips from a local
Head to Druridge Bay Country Park, which is only 10 minutes from Amble by car. Or, if you fancied a coastal walk, you can head along the dunes from Amble to Druridge Bay beach.
With a 100 acre lake surrounded by pretty woodland, and a gorgeous beach stretching 7 miles, Druridge Bay is ideal for a day out enjoying some of Northumberland’s fantastic scenery. Plus, there’s even several nature reserves to explore behind the dunes!
Tips from a local
Meet the residents of Coquet Island with a Puffin Cruise, starting from Amble dock. Coquet Island is home to over 40,000 nesting sea birds during the summer months and there’s so much to see – look out for Puffins, Roseate Terns, Kittiwakes, Eider Ducks and more! If you’re lucky, you might spot a grey seal on the east side of the island.

For a romantic meal, book a table at Jasper’s Bistro – a small hidden gem located in Amble’s town centre which has been ranked as one of the best places to eat in Northumberland on TripAdvisor.
The menu comprises of a number of seafood and steak dishes, all of which are delicious. We recommend booking Jasper’s in advance, as it is a popular restaurant and gets booked out fast.
