Map & Local Area

Puffin View House is proudly situated on the Links Road just yards away from the sea front in thriving Amble. This family holiday cottage in Amble is only 10 minutes easy walk to the Amble marina but seconds away from the seafront walk, Puffin View House is in a perfect spot for enjoying the best of this thriving fishing town without having to get in the car. Everything in Amble can be reached easily on foot from Puffin View House, such as the harbour, main street and the great restaurants on the quayside. Puffin View House is the perfect family holiday cottage by the seaside.

The coastline and harbour are very interesting in Amble as you can watch the fishing boats come and go. The little shore is at the southern end of Amble with a little beach before you reach the promenade and the pier. The views of Coquet Island from the pier are beautiful, as they are from the house too! A mile south is Hauxley Nature Reserve which has a whole host of different wildlife coming to life all year round which you can easily walk to.

One mile north you will find the medieval village of Warkworth with its impressive castle at the top of the village. Warkworth is very easy to reach on foot, following the walk along the Coquet estuary from the harbour until you reach the castle. In Warkworth you’ll find a great selection of village pubs (no less than 4 to choose from!) and a 5-mile golden sandy beach accessible from the north end of the village.

Amble is an excellent place to be based to enjoy the excellent choice of eateries and the beautiful coastal landscape on your doorstep, as well as visiting a host of other popular places in Northumberland such as Rothbury country village and the nearby Simonside Hills and Ingram Valley, the traditional coastal villages of EmbletonCraster and Bamburgh, to the central market town of Alnwick. Everywhere in Northumberland is easy to reach from this holiday cottage in Amble.

Tips from a local

Go on a Puffin Cruise to Coquet Island, sailing from Amble dock. The island is home to over 40,000 nesting sea birds such as Puffins, Roseate Terns, Sandwich Terns, Arctic Terns, Kittiwakes and Eider Ducks which all nest in the summer months. A grey seal colony also stays at the island all year round and can be seen on the east side of the island. The waters around the island are really clear and sometimes you can see dolphins. Dave Grey’s boat trips are the best and have been operating for the longest.

Tips from a local

You can’t miss out on a Spurelli’s ice cream when staying in Amble, and luckily it’s just a short walk across the headland and the harbour from Puffin View House. Spurellis didn’t get their multiple awards for nothing – our favourites are Double Strawberry, Cherryvilla and Salted Caramel.

If you don’t have a sweet tooth, they also serve Illy coffee and are also fully licenced, so you can swap the ice cream for a different treat instead.

Tips from a local

Go surfing! There is a great, little surf community in Amble, with Northside Surf School offering private and group lessons all year round. Jon is a qualified surf instructor and lifeguard, and is great fun for a family day out. Whether you’re looking for a bit of a laugh in a group session, or to improve your skills in a one-to-one lesson, Jon is highly recommended, and can even take you to the ‘private beach’ on the other side of the harbour! All equipment and wet suits are provided – so what are you waiting for?!

Tips from a local

Dine at Jasper’s Bistro, a small, romantic hidden gem just off the main street of Amble. Jasper’s specialises in seafood and steak dishes, and has been ranked competitively at number 1 out of 778 places to eat in Northumberland on Trip Advisor! The food is excellent, and the staff go above and beyond to ensure you enjoy your whole evening or lunch time meal. Show your Coquet Cottages key ring to receive a complimentary glass of Prosecco with your evening meal, or free round of selected soft drinks with lunch! Just be sure to book to avoid disappointment.

Tips from a local

Cycle to Cresswell from Amble – it’s about an 8.5 mile route and the same again back. You follow the dunes heading south out of Amble, through Low Hauxley and the views are just beautiful. When we do this route, we finish at The Drift Café behind the dunes at Cresswell, for a hot coffee and something sweet, then we head back to Amble.

You can hire bikes for adults and children Pedal Power who are in Amble too, in case you couldn’t fit yours in the car!
