The apartment is right next to the coastal cycle path (which is very family-friendly) which runs all the way to pretty Alnmouth to the North and down to Cresswell and Druridge Bay to the south. Spacious for 4 guests but uber-luxurious for just a couple, Swansdown has 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and welcomes a small dog too. Swansdown has been awarded 5 stars and a prestigious GOLD award by Visit England.
There are 4 free passes provided (2 adults and 4 children) to guests for the nearby Amble Links Health and Leisure Club, which is within walking distance and has a 20m indoor heated pool, sauna and fitness suite (see further details below).
Swansdown is located on the first floor, benefiting from the panoramic views, but it is also suitable for guests who have limited mobility. The whole apartment is on one level with lift access to the front door too.
Swansdown is a luxurious apartment at Amble harbour sleeping 4 guests in 2 bedrooms with 2 bathrooms. Situated right in the heart of the popular fishing port of Amble, Swansdown is very spacious – perfect for couples as well as a small family. Swansdown is also suitable for guests with limited mobility too, as there is a level access from the car park area, a lift to the apartment door, extra wide doorways and is completely level throughout, and although there is no provision for a wheelchair in the bathrooms, there is a walk-in shower. 1 small dog is very welcome here.
As well as Swansdown appealing to any guests who like being active on holiday, it is a haven for birdwatchers too. There is a spotting scope on the balcony for looking out to Coquet Island and across the sands of the harbour to Warkworth dunes, there are an abundance of different seabirds to watch.
The Coquet Yacht Club is just down the road too and open to the public. You can take boat trips with Puffin Cruises around Coquet Island, and The Shorebase trust have canoes and kayaks, offering lessons for beginners and the more experienced lovers of watersports, including yachting and windsurfing.
The front door leads to the stairs and the lift. Swansdown is on the first floor. The entrance into Swansdown apartment is completely level from the lift.
Open Plan Living
The whole of the living space is open plan to benefit from the amazing views out of the expansive glass sliding doors. The balcony is sheltered from the wind yet still captures the beautiful sunsets over the harbour.
Smart TV with full access to Netflix, DVD player and Bluetooth speaker. There’s a library of books and a huge telescope for gazing at the stars. There’s also a fully stocked picnic basket for 2 if you wanted to take lunch down to the little shore or to Druridge Bay for the day.
The kitchen has a breakfast bar with 3 stools as well as a dining table seating up to 6 guests. The dining table is well positioned next to the balcony to make the most of the amazing views.
The kitchen is extremely well equipped with an electric oven and ceramic hob, microwave, dishwasher, washer/dryer, large fridge/freezer, kettle, toaster, Nespresso pod machine (please supply your own pods), slow cooker and plenty of baking equipment.
Master Bedroom with En-suite Shower Room
The master bedroom has a king size bed (5ft wide), a wall-mounted Smart TV with Freeview, Bluetooth radio and an en suite shower room with a walk in shower, wash hand basin, WC and heated towel rail. Luxury bed linen and plenty of towels are included. Complimentary bathrobes and slippers and toiletries from ‘Temple Spa’ are provided. Hairdryer.
A unique feature of this bedroom is the floor to ceiling windows on either side of the bed, so you can open your eyes in the morning to stunning coastal views, without even having to move!
The twin bed room is also spacious with a huge window letting in plenty of natural light looking out to the town-side of the apartment. Both beds are single size (3ft wide). Luxury bed linen, towels and complimentary bathrobes and slippers are provided. Wall-mounted Smart TV with Freeview and Bluetooth radio.
The second bathroom, for the use of guests staying in the twin bedroom, is incredibly spacious. The bath is large and has a shower over. There is a WC, basin and heated towel rail. Towels and complimentary toiletries from ‘Temple Spa’ are provided for adult guests.
The west-facing balcony makes the most of the incredible sunsets we have here in Northumberland, with a silhouette of Warkworth Castle and reflections on the Coquet Estuary, it often looks as if the estuary is on fire. Swansdown faces onto the harbour away from the sea wind, so is sheltered and less breezy.

Outside and Parking
Swansdown is located in a lovely new development of luxury apartments in the heart of Amble Harbour. Everything is right on your doorstep, the eclectic range of little boutique-style shops, restaurants, Fish Shack, Harbour Village and Spurelli’s award-winning Ice Cream parlour – all within a short and easy walk from Swansdown.
There is a private parking bay for 1 car for Swansdown in the Coble Quay car park which is sheltered, with level access into the front door of the building. Further shared guest parking is also available within a few yards. There’s a storage lockup located on the ground floor of the apartment block which is available for the secure storage of sporting equipment, please enquire with us if this is required.
There are walks just yards from your door through the Marina to the picnic area and grassy Amble Braid or along the harbour-side, as well as the Cycle Path being just yards from the apartment, going all the way down to Cresswell and Druridge Bay and northwards up to Alnmouth. It’s lovely to watch the fishing boats return with their catch daily and the yachts sailing in and out of the harbour.
Private Beach Hut
Swansdown guests have the exclusive use of a private beach hut called ‘Bucket and Spade’. The beach hut has full electricity and even a USB port, and is located on the edge of the ‘Little Shore’, which is the small beach in Amble. It takes around 10-12 minutes to walk there from the apartment and there are chairs stored inside and a kettle available for use (although there’s no running water). Regrettably, dogs are not allow allowed in the beach huts or on the Little Shore, which is ran by the Harbour Commission. A thermos flask is kept in the apartment to take to the beach hut.

Free Membership of Amble Health and Leisure Club
Swansdown guests have the additional facility of free unlimited use of the Amble Health & Leisure Club for two guests. Situated less than half a mile from Coble Quay, along the seafront, this multi-million pound leisure complex, with a state-of -the-art fitness suite and a fabulous 20m heated indoor swimming pool with dedicated children’s area. There are also sauna and steam-room facilities. The fitness-suite boasts the very best equipment and is the only one of its kind in north Northumberland. All of the cardiovascular machines have their own built-in individual television, enabling the user to personalise their workout experience. The team of professional fitness instructors are available to support users with high quality advice and assistance. Additional guests can pay the club a day rate of less than £5.

Regrettably, no dogs are permitted in the beach hut or on the beach. Please note: We regret the Beach Hut will not be available for use after 18th July 2020.

Harbourside location within bustling fishing port with many great restaurants, bistro’s, a deli and shops on the doorstep. Within easy driving distance of all the coastal villages and inland to the National Park and country houses including Cragside.
Fabulous view of the yacht marina, the Coquet Estuary and the sea, with views of Warkworth castle and village and far reaching views of Warkworth beach and up the coast as far as Alnmouth.
Welcome Hamper including luxury Temple Spa toiletries and bespoke area and property guide, as well as a picnic hamper for use during your stay. Complimentary bathrobes and slippers for use during your holiday. Locked storage for bikes, canoe’s etc. and full access for 2 adults and 4 children to the Amble Links Health Club.
The balcony off the lounge is as wide as the sliding doors and has a table with chairs. It overlooks the marina and is west facing providing a gorgeous view particularly at sunset. It’s also sheltered from the direct sea wind.
Dedicated parking bay for 1 car in the Coble Quay car park directly underneath the apartment. Additional guest parking is nearby.
The apartment is on the first floor, with a lift from the ground floor. The whole apartment is completely level and the doors are wide enough for a wheelchair. The en suite shower room has a walk-in shower.
Whilst the exterior windows are cleaned weekly, the owners cannot take responsibility for any salt spray from the sea which may interrupt the view.
The apartment is level throughout with extra wide doors, walk-in shower and a lift from the ground floor. However, the apartment cannot be deemed completely suitable for wheelchair users. Please call us if you have any specific questions.
No smoking is permitted in or on the balcony of Swansdown.
Map & Local Area
Swansdown is perfectly positioned to capture the ever-changing colourful coastal landscape off the coast of Amble. The apartment is gorgeous in all seasons; in the summer the town has a Mediterranean vibe with fresh fish bistros along the harbour front and promenade walks out to sea with views of Coquet Island, and in the winter the landscape is at it’s most dramatic, perfect for getting wrapped up for a walk along the coastline.
From the door of the apartment main entrance, you can take a stroll along the promenade to the harbour front, where you will find a quirky market on a Sunday and also The Fish Shack, a daytime bistro. Also just yards from Swansdown you can find Spurelli’s award-winning ice cream parlour, also the award-winning Old Boathouse bistro, and the Harbour Village; a cluster of small retail outlets selling local art, produce and various gifts.
The rock pools are great to explore which are next to the beach along from the harbour, as is the little bay and the pier going right out to the lighthouse where you have beautiful views of Coquet Island. The whole of the Northumberland heritage coastline is easy to discover from Amble, with its necklace of pretty coastal villages threaded up the coastline to Holy Island and Budle Bay.

Tips from a local
We all scream for ice cream!
You can’t miss out on a Spurelli’s ice cream when staying in Amble, and luckily it’s just around the corner from Swansdown. They didn’t get their multiple awards for nothing – our favourites are Double Strawberry, Cherryvilla and Salted Caramel.
If you don’t have a sweet tooth, they serve Illy coffee and are also fully licenced, so you can swap the ice cream for a different treat instead.
Tips from a local
Meander down to the Little Shore and see where it takes you…
The little shore is at the south end of Amble, and whilst dogs aren’t permitted on the beach between April and September, you can walk further down the coast to eventually reach Druridge Bay and Cresswell.
It’s a lovely walk down the back of the dunes and along the coastline – get the camera at the ready!
If you take a walk in the morning and fancy a bite to eat, head to The Drift Cafe at Cresswell beach. It’s a 9 mile walk/bike ride from Amble but it’s worth it for the views and everything at the Drift Cafe is homemade.

For a top notch meal in a warm and welcoming atmosphere, be sure to visit Jasper’s Cafe and Bistro, just 3 minutes’ walk from the apartment across the town square. The food is exquisite (Jasper’s reached number 1 on Trip Advisor out of 778 eateries in Northumberland!) and the staff go out of their way to ensure you enjoy your whole dining experience. Remember to take your Coquet Cottages key fob with you to claim a free bottle of Prosecco for the table during the evening, and a free round from selected non-alcoholic drinks through lunch time!
