This luxury apartment near the beach is spread over 2 floors, sleeping 6 guests in 3 bedrooms and is pet-free. The modern kitchen, bathrooms and facilities combined with relaxed coastal interiors make this the perfect base for your luxury stay in Northumberland. It benefits from charming estuary views, a south-facing balcony with access down to the lane leading to the beach,  and has an on-street resident parking permit and free Wi-Fi as standard.

Overview

The Alnmouth Penthouse sleeps up to 6 guests in 3 bedrooms. The first floor consists of an open plan living room/ kitchen/ dining area, family bathroom, twins/ super king bedroom, and a snug room. On the second floor you will find a double bedroom with en-suite shower room, and king size bedroom with full en-suite bathroom.

This coastal apartment has a south-facing, furnished balcony terrace. The Alnmouth Penthouse is  pet-free and has free Wi-Fi as standard. Due to the number of stairs inside the property, and the steps outside leading down from the balcony, the apartment is not suitable for young children under 5 years old.

 

Entrance

The pretty and spacious entrance porch is shared with the ground floor apartment. Access to The Alnmouth Penthouse is through the left door and anything on the left hand side of the porch area is for guest use. Similarly, the items on the right belong to the neighbouring property and are not for Penthouse guest use. Once inside the apartment, you’ll find coat hanging hooks and a handy console table, with stairs leading up to the main areas of the property. Further storage space is provided for shoes, coats and luggage in the first floor hallway cupboard, next to the kitchen.

First Floor

Snug

Just off from the first flight of stairs is the snug room. There is a Smart TV, two sofas and double doors opening onto the balcony to create a relaxed indoor/outdoor feel. There are also board games and books provided.

Utility Cupboard

Next to the snug you will find a cupboard with washer/dryer, iron and ironing board, airer and vacuum.

Kitchen/ lounge/dining area

Leading up a few more steps from the snug room, the spacious open plan kitchen, dining area and lounge allows ample natural light to flood in, with large windows offering gorgeous views of the estuary and historic village. This main reception room has real wood flooring throughout.

Kitchen

The modern kitchen contains a breakfast bar with seating for 4 guests, wooden worktops, Belfast sink, integrated fridge/ freezer, dishwasher, electric fan oven, 5 ring gas hob, microwave, kettle, 4 piece toaster and a Wilfa Coffee Maker. The kitchen area is very well lit with under-bench lighting, ceiling spotlights and ambient pendants over the island/breakfast bar.

Dining Area

The dining table fits perfectly in the bay window area, with seating for 6 guests and views of the estuary and pretty, historic street below.

Lounge

The living area has comfortable, fixed seating for up to 6 guests on two sofas and an arm chair, a wall-mounted Smart TV with Netflix account provided and a beautiful Victorian style feature fireplace (decorative only). Wall lights and stylish lamps provide a cosy ambience and ample range of lighting options. There is a portable Bose bluetooth speaker provided in the lounge too.

Family bathroom

The family bathroom has a shower over the bath with a large shower head attachment. There is a WC, wash basin, large mirror with built in lighting above and a heated towel rail.

Bedroom 3 – Twins/super-king bedroom

The first floor bedroom can be set as twin single beds (3 ft wide) or can be converted to a super king size bed (6 ft wide) upon request when booking. If no option is selected, the room will be set with twin single beds as default. The tall windows are south and south-west facing, looking over the boats in the estuary, and down the lane leading straight to the beach steps. The room contains a large chest of drawers and hanging space is provided by vintage style wall hooks.

Second Floor

Main Bedroom with en-suite bathroom

The main bedroom is very spacious and offers stunning views over the estuary and countryside in the distance. Two armchairs and a small side table are situated in the bay window area, creating the perfect spot to relax and enjoy your morning coffee.  There is a king size bed (5 ft wide), chest of drawers and a large walk in wardrobe. The room also benefits from a Roberts bluetooth speaker and radio.

The en suite bathroom has a full size bath and separate shower, with rainfall shower head. Please note there is a step in to the shower cubicle, about 6 inches high. The bathroom also contains a WC, wash basin with a large mirror and light above, heated towel rail, velux window and handy storage shelves. Luxury complimentary Bramley toiletries are provided.

Bedroom 2

The 2nd bedroom contains a double bed (4ft 6″ wide), rattan side tables, chest of drawers and a stylish wrought iron hanging rail. This bedroom benefits from a large south facing window looking out down the lane leading to the beach.

In this en-suite there is a large shower, with a small step up and a bi-folding door. You will find a WC, wash basin, large mirror, heated towel rail and a small window looking out onto the sand flats and the boats moored in the estuary.

Outdoor Balcony

Accessed from the snug room on the 1st floor, the pretty balcony contains an 8 seater set of Bramble Crest rattan garden furniture, some pretty potted plants and a pergola with an optional cover. There are steps down from the balcony to a small yard area (shared access with the ground floor apartment), leading out to the lane which leads straight to the beach steps. In addition, the yard area contains a cold water tap which is perfect for washing the sand off your feet or belongings before heading back up to the steps to the balcony. Please ensure the access from the yard to the neighbouring terrace is clear at all times.

Parking

A residents permit for 1 car is provided. The permit allows you to park anywhere on Argyle Street in one of the allocated bays.  Please be aware that the permit does not guarantee a parking space directly outside the property as bays are not allocated to individual properties. Additional public parking can be found on Riverside Road (either alongside the dunes or towards Alnmouth Playground) or on the main street of the village or towards the Golf Course.

A grand village home on popular Argyle Street has been converted into a gorgeous apartment just a few steps from the golden sandy beach. Both homely and well-situated, this really is the ideal holiday escape in any season.

We regret that no dogs are permitted at The Alnmouth Penthouse, with the exception of assistant dogs.

Care of the Property
Our ‘Coquet’ cottages are much-loved privately-owned holiday homes into which our owners have lavished much care and investment to create beautiful and comfortable places for their guests to enjoy. We therefore require a cautionary Good Housekeeping Deposit to protect our owners’ property, so that if damage/breakages occur or exceptional cleaning over and above the usual changeover clean is required, up to the value of the deposit, the owner can be readily recompensed.

You have the option of paying either a £200 refundable Good Housekeeping Deposit or a smaller non-refundable £34 Deposit Waiver, which covers you to the value of £200.  Please choose which option you prefer when booking.  Click HERE for more information.

3 bedrooms: 1st floor bedroom has 2 twin single beds (3 ft wide) which can be converted into a superking bed (6 ft wide) on request, the 2nd floor bedrooms consist of a double bed (4 ft 6″ wide) with en-suite shower room, and main bedroom with a kingsize bed (5 ft wide) and en-suite bathroom, with full-size bath and separate shower.

About Alnmouth

Accessibility
Accommodation on 1st and 2nd floor with no lift available. There are a few extra steps between the snug room and the other rooms on the 1st floor. All showers have a 6 inch step in. The property is suitable for children aged 5 years and above, but not for toddlers or infants due to the number of steps throughout the apartment.

Map & Local Area

The Alnmouth Penthouse is situated in the very centre of the village, just metres from the impressive golden sand beach and dunes, and a stone’s throw to the main street with all amenities on your doorstep. Alnmouth is an exceptionally pretty coastal village with a great range of places to eat and drink, and a few quaint and quirky shops.

Alnwick is just 10 minutes north, where there are numerous fine restaurants, the world-famous book store ‘Barter Books’, Alnwick Castle (featured in the very famous Harry Potter films) and the world class attraction of Alnwick Garden and Treehouse.

The delightful village of Warkworth is just 4 miles south of Alnmouth, where there is a good range of pubs, cafes, lovely quirky shops and art galleries. The magnificent Medieval castle is fascinating to explore and there are lovely riverside walks, where the River Coquet encircles the village before meandering out to sea.

Another mile south of Warkworth, along the estuary you’ll find Amble. This lively little fishing town offers some fantastic seafood eateries right on the harbour front, nice bars, and beautiful walks around the pier and marina.

Tips from a local

The view point overlooking Alnmouth Golf Course, beach and coastline is a bit of a hidden gem!

Head up the main street and turn right before you reach the roundabout, and you’ll have the gorgeous old monastery on your left. Just before the junction in the road heading to the beach carpark, there is a little footpath leading up a hill and into the trees. Follow the path for breath-taking views of the Northumberland coastline. Keep an eye out for the old fire beacons and World War 2 Pillbox and bunker too!

Tips from a local

Head along to The Old School Gallery, just over the roundabout on the outskirts of the village, and view the stunning exhibitions of local artists, have a browse around the gift shop, and relax with a brew and slice of cake in the cosy tea room.

They have a lovely suntrap courtyard, great for enjoying a coffee and a slice of cake after a walk on the beach.

Take a picnic hamper, flask of tea, bucket and spade down the lane and have a day out at Alnmouth Beach.

With access steps down to the beach just metres from The Alnmouth Penthouse, the opportunity for a traditional, seaside afternoon is too good to miss!

Visit Scott’s Deli 

A delightful and refreshing addition to this gorgeous little village is the deli which serves an exciting mix of premium products as well as their fresh selection of cheeses, baked goods, deli sandwiches and much more. Any gin lovers should stop by here to admire the great selection of gins they have on offer, especially local ones too.

It is well recommended you stop by the deli during your stay in Alnmouth or anywhere close by, to pick up some tasty treats to take back to your holiday home.

Tips from a local

Perfect for a rainy day… Head up to Barter Books in Alnwick (about 3 1/2 miles from Alnmouth) which is an old Victorian train station converted into the most fabulous bookstore. Every book you can imagine is here, even some very valuable first additions on display. They have a lovely café converted from the old waiting rooms in the station if you wanted a nibble and something hot to drink. As the name suggests, you can bring old books into Barter Books and exchange them for credits so you can buy something new (or old!) to take home. Pick a good book and get settled in front of one of their many open fires. Snoozing welcome!

We asked the owners of The Alnmouth Penthouse what drew them to the property:

We’ve always found Northumberland a truly special place to holiday and when the opportunity to purchase our own holiday home came along, we fell in love with The Penthouse and its location at first sight.

We never tire of heading down the lane onto the miles of beautiful beach and returning for relaxing lunches on the balcony in summer, but Alnmouth really is a perfect spot whatever the season. The sweeping Northumbrian skies and stunning light as the nights draw in are definitely hard to beat.

The area has so much to offer beyond the coast from riverside walks, national parks, country houses and gardens to theatre, music, museums and galleries a short train journey away in Newcastle.

Wherever we’ve spent the day, we love coming back to curl up with a glass of wine and a book, or to watch the boats and ever changing landscape of the estuary.
