Map & Local Area

The Drift House at Beadnell is just 250 yards from the huge and sandy Beadnell Bay and the only west-facing harbour on the east coast of the UK. Beadnell is well-known for it’s watersports and enthusiasts, with many brave people jumping off the Beadnell pier in their wet suits at all times of the year!

In Beadnell you have 2 pubs; The Craster Arms and Beadnell Towers, with the former being the livelier of the 2. Both serve great food in a warm and cosy setting. In addition to the 2 pubs you will find The Salt Water Cafe just opposite the gorgeous St. Ebba’s Church. This new, artisan-style cafe serves gorgeous breakfasts, fresh lunches and home-cooked evening meals when the cafe turns into a licenced bistro.

Head north to Seahouses less than 3 miles away up the coast and you’ll find a buzzing seaside town with plenty of shops, cafes, and a traditional ‘bucket and spade’ feel to the town which overlooks the working harbour. Catch the boat over to The Farne Islands with Billy Shiel’s boat trips and admire the stunning views of the coast from the sea. When the sun starts to set, it’s incredibly romantic.

Bamburgh is just 10 mins’ away in the car and Alnwick can be reached in 15 minutes. Beadnell is a wonderful village to spend a memorable holiday with so much to do on your doorstep yet the rest of Northumberland at your fingertips to discover.

Tips from a local

Sample the delicious, fresh local seafood at the stylish Salt Water Cafe.

Located centrally in Beadnell, opposite the village church, Salt Water Cafe offers a stunning menu and uses Seafood from Beadnell Bay itself, and nearby Seahouses Harbour. They serve food all day from 8.30am and on into the evening, and also offer a fantastic afternoon tea, with the added luxury of prosecco and cocktails on offer too!

Tips from a local

Did you know Beadnell has the only West-facing harbour on the East Coast?

This rare spot on the Northumberland Coastline means you can enjoy the sunset from the harbour, looking back over the land. What a stunning way to end an evening stroll along Beadnell Bay sands.

Tips from a local

Visit Holy Island, just a short drive up the A1.

Lindisfarne Castle is looked after by National Trust, and The Lindisfarne Priory belongs to English Heritage, so remember to bring your cards with you if you are Membership Holders.

The Lindisfarne Brewery and gift shop is lovely where you’ll find tasty goodies to bring home with you for friends and family – and for yourself!

Please be extra careful and check the tide times for the causeway, and don’t underestimate how fast the tide comes in!  It’s a regular occurrence for people to be stranded and have to be rescued by the Coastguard because they ignored the tide timetable and thought they could get through when the tide was coming in – cars flooded with seawater are completely written off!

Tips from a local

The Craster Arms is open all day everyday and is dog friendly! For the winter months real log fires are on offer for you and for summer weather in Northumberland a large outdoor seating area is the place to be! Do not miss out! In addition to the great cosy seating areas is a selection of pub food for lunch and dinner. And not forgetting Sunday lunches and a large selection of beverages!

Tips from a local

The Farne Islands lie two to three miles off the Northumberland coast midway between the fishing village of Seahouses and the Castle of Bamburgh. There are between 15 and 20 islands depending on the state of the tide. From April until the end of July, these islands are dominated by one of the most exciting seabird colonies in the United Kingdom with unrivalled views of 23 species, including tens of thousands pairs of puffins, the sight is a joy to behold. The islands are also the permanent home for a large colony of Atlantic or Grey Seals and one of the top grey seal pupping sites in England. We would recommend taking a boat tour out to the Farne Islands with Billy Shiel’s boat trips. This is ‘a must’ when you come to Northumberland, especially with Beadnell being located so close to Seahouses. Make sure you book in advance as they are incredibly popular, especially after being featured on the much-loved TV series ‘Tales from Northumberland’ with Robson Green.
