This beautifully restored first floor apartment is the epitome of ‘hidden gem’ and overlooks the heart of Warkworth village, with a varied selection of gift shops, art gallery, French patisserie and a choice of 4 pubs at your fingertips, not to mention the 5 mile stretch of golden sandy beach just 15 minutes walk away too.

Oozing charm and style, The Pelican Loft has a sociable open plan living space with two bedrooms and two bathrooms, making it’s perfect for couples holidaying together or a small family. Named after the famous ‘Percy the Pelican’ who lived in Warkworth village on the banks of the river Coquet in the 70’s, The Pelican Loft is spacious and very comfortable, welcoming 2 small dogs or 1 large dog to stay.

Hidden in a central spot within Warkworth Village, The location of the Pelican Loft is ideal to explore interesting areas of the village as well as walking or driving north or south along the coast. Meander south to Amble and the discover the charming working harbour and the best fish and chips around, or ramble north to Alnmouth to explore the expanse of golden sand, arty shops and good pubs.

The Pelican Loft sleeps 4 guests in 2 bedrooms with a shower room and a family bathroom. The main bedroom has a super king size bed and an en suite shower room and the second bedroom has a king size bed. The family bathroom is beautifully tiled with plenty of storage.

The living space is beautifully open plan and is very spacious. The kitchen is modern yet classic, with bar-stool seating for relaxed dining or the dining table to seat 4 with feature lighting above. The lounge space is cosy with 2 sofas centred towards a large electric fireplace and wall-mounted TV.

The Pelican Loft welcomes 2 small dogs (terrier size) or 1 large dog (no bigger than a Labrador). Children and infants are welcome but there is no travel cot, highchair or stair gate available. Whilst there is no designated parking for The Pelican Loft, all parking in Warkworth is free, so you can choose to park in the centre of the village or down on the riverbank.


The entrance to The Pelican Loft is within a courtyard of other apartments, just behind the centre of Warkworth. You enter into a small entrance hallway, with the wide staircase with feature walls taking you to the first floor. There is storage at the front door for coats, boots and other walking equipment.

As you reach the top landing, there is a pleasant landing space with console table and place to store keys etc.

Open Plan Living Space


The beautifully designed kitchen features all the latest appliances, such as a large fridge/freezer, electric fan oven, ceramic hob, microwave, toaster, kettle, Nespresso coffee machine, dishwasher and washer/dryer. The kitchen has white quartz work surfaces and a breakfast bar with 2 comfy bar stools for relaxed dining as an alternative to the dining table.

Dining Space

The dining table has seating for 4 and has feature hand-blown glass lighting above.


The lounge coordinates perfectly with the kitchen, with feature built-in ornamental shelving either side of the fire place with contemporary inset electric fire. There are 2 velvet sofas, each 2-seaters and the large Smart TV is wall-mounted with full access to Netflix.

Main Bedroom with en suite

The main bedroom contains a super king size bed (6ft wide), hanging rail and dressing table area. The window looks out to the centre of the village. Luxury linens provided and all bedding is non-feather. The en suite contains a shower, illuminated mirror, wash basin and WC. Complimentary toiletries and fluffy towels provided.

Second Bedroom

This equally gorgeous room contains a king size bed, wardrobe and dressing table area. Luxury linens provided and bedding is non-feather.

Family Bathroom

This bright and beautifully tiled bathroom contains a rainfall shower head over a full size bath, large illuminated mirror, excellent storage, wash basin, WC and large heated towel rail. Complimentary toiletries are provided as well as fluffy towels.

Outside and Parking

The Pelican Loft is located within a small, pretty courtyard of 5 apartments. Whilst there is no designated space, the riverbank is less than 100 yards away where there is a perfect spot to take a bottle of wine overlooking the river Coquet.
There is no designated parking for The Pelican Loft, but all parking in Warkworth village is free. You can drive down the narrow lane to unload your bags and park either on the riverbank or on the main street.

You’ll receive a comprehensive guide book for your phone or tablet upon booking, which not only provides all the information you need to stay at The Pelican Loft but also guides to all the local facilities, restaurants, shopping, attractions, the best beaches, walks, activities, exploring Northumberland, offers and much more.

One baby welcome. No travel cot or highchair is available but you are welcome to bring your own. Please be aware that space in both bedrooms is limited for a cot.  No stair gates are provided but there is a door between the stairs and landing. We do not allow the use of portable stair gates.

Two small (small terrier size) or 1 large (max. Labrador size) well-behaved dogs are welcome at The Pelican Loft for a small charge of £20 per dog. Booking Conditions apply and Dog-Sitting is available.

‘Feels like down’ hypo-allergenic, non-feather pillows and duvets.

Family bathroom contains a shower over the bath with rainfall shower head, illuminated mirror, large heated towel rail, wash basin, WC and storage. The en-suite shower room features a shower cubicle with rainfall shower head, wash basin, WC and illuminated mirror. Luxury toiletries are provided by Temple Spa.

Large Smart TV in the lounge with full access to Netflix.  Bang & Olufsen Bluetooth speaker. Free Wi-Fi throughout.

Fridge, freezer, electric fan oven and ceramic hob, microwave, dishwasher, washer/dryer, 4 slice toaster, kettle and Nespresso coffee machine with initial supply of pods. Iron, ironing board and vacuum. Hairdryers, books, Bluetooth speaker and a great selection of board games. Central heating via new electric wall-radiators is provided throughout the property. Electric fire provided for ambience but can omit heat.

There are a full set of stairs leading straight from the front door to the first floor. Once at the top of the stairs, the accommodation is level throughout.

There is no private allocated parking for The Pelican Loft. However you may unload/load your car on the main street of the village or in the narrow access lane and then find a parking space close by.  There are no parking charges in Warkworth and finding a space nearby is generally easy.

A BBQ is not provided as it’s not permitted to use a portable BBQ in the shared courtyard.

The Pelican Loft is perfectly situated in the very heart of medieval Warkworth village, with all of the amenities of the village just a stroll away – restaurants, pubs, shops, riverbank and castle. It’s also an easy walk to the vast and golden sanded Warkworth beach.

You can walk to Amble, a friendly fishing port just 1.5 miles from the cottage. The walk takes you along the Coquet estuary and through the interesting harbour, where you will find the Harbour Village, an interesting collection of little gift shops, The Fish Shack, Old Boathouse restaurant, The Fat Mermaid, Radcliffe’s and The Quayside Chippy, as well as renowned ice cream parlour, Spurellis. You’re completely spoilt for choice with everything on your doorstep.

The ‘arty’ seaside village of Alnmouth is just 3 miles north, with famous Alnwick, with its world-class Alnwick Garden and Treehouse, perfectly preserved castle, which was ‘Hogwart’s School’ in the Harry Potter films, just 7 miles north.

Beautiful property in the heart of our favourite village. Tasteful décor and very comfortable a lovely property to spend some time in. Location perfect for local shops and pubs. It was great that it had 2 king-sized beds as we visit as 2 couples. We regularly visit Northumberland and the luxury and comfort of the accommodation far exceeded those we have stayed at with other companies.

Tips from a local

Let them eat cake!

You simply cannot visit Warkworth without visiting Bertram’s café for breakfast or coffee and cake (or both if you’ve earned it!). Their breakfast menu features everything from a full English to homemade granola and summer berries, and their cakes are the best in the county by far.
Even better, they have outdoor seating for the summer in their private courtyard, 2 wood-burning stoves for the winter and dogs are welcome all year round. They do take-out too!

BBQ on the Beach!

None of our beaches get very busy in Northumberland, and Warkworth beach is only 15 minutes walk from The Pelican Loft or around 3 minutes drive to the car park behind the dunes.
Take a picnic and a BBQ and head towards the Amble-end of the beach where there is a flat, sheltered spot of sand.

There is a secret path in Warkworth village that runs from the Millennium Green gardens by the bridge all the way up to the castle. This path runs between all the houses on the main street and the houses on the riverbank, so you’ll spot some interesting gardens and burgage plots. It’s like stepping back in time!

We asked Stephanie what made her fall in love with The Pelican Loft

“I’ve been coming to Warkworth since I was a toddler, with my Grandad having lived in the small cottage next door to The Pelican Loft, Hotspur Cottage, which was our original connection to the village.

Whilst my Mum carried out the changeovers in the school holidays, I used to play up and down Brewery Lane, and I always used to wonder what was in ‘the window above the arch’. Fast forward 20+ years later and I can sit at the breakfast bar and people watch out that very same window, as tourists make their way to and from the riverbank.

The Pelican Loft was completed in April 2021 and looks very different to how it did in August 2020. The only thing left in place is the wood floor in the lounge, everything else was stripped out and replaced. It was challenging furnishing and equipping a property during the lockdown, as no shops were open so being able to browse for gorgeous things that make a house a home wasn’t possible. However, pulling it together on evenings and weekends was very rewarding, and I crave spending time up there myself every week when I pop in.

I really do think it’s a ‘hidden gem’ within the village, and such a great place for friends to gather for a much needed catch up. The beach, pubs, riverbank, shops and more are right on your doorstep, it’s perfectly positioned to enjoy it all.
