Map & Local Area

Victoria Cottage is tucked away in a quiet area of the beautiful medieval village of Warkworth. The walk to the beach is very pretty along the riverbank and will take about 15 minutes on foot. The nearest pub is The Sun Inn, which has a great steakhouse restaurant and quirky  dog-friendly pub, 300 yards from the cottage.

Walking to the fishing port of Amble is highly recommended from Victoria Cottage, as it’s just a mile down the estuary. Here you will find the Harbour Market on a Sunday, as well as a fantastic selection of delicious seafood restaurants and bistro’s, and the award-winning Spurelli ice cream parlour serving ‘illy’ coffee too.

Druridge Bay, Alnmouth, Alnwick, Beadnell, Embleton, Seahouses and Bamburgh is very easy to get to if you follow the well-signposted Coastal Route, as well as Craster on the coast too. Alternatively discover Rothbury and Kielder Forest inland, famous for the Dark Skies – nothing like you have seen at home!

Tips from a local

Visit Bertram’s in Warkworth. This cosy, welcoming and dog-friendly Bistro Cafe in the centre of the village is perfect for a hot chocolate by the fire through the winter months, or for a glass of wine out in the sun-trap patio garden. The menu is fantastic with all dishes made on site, or sourced locally.

Tips from a local

Take a walk along the estuary to Amble Fishing Town. Just 1 1/4 miles from Warkworth, Amble offers stunning coastal scenery around the marina, harbour and pier. A browse around the pods in the Harbour Village are a great way to spend an afternoon, visiting local artists and independent shops, with a stop off at The Fish Shack for a bite to eat in the authentic dining hut.

Tips from a local

Visit Warkworth Castle. The impressive medieval ruin in the centre of the village dates back to the 1100’s, and is now looked after by English Heritage. The history of the castle and village is fascinating, and with its spiral staircases, towers and lawned grounds to explore, the castle provides an excellent afternoon out for all the family, just a 2 minute walk from the cottage.

Owners of Victoria Cottage

A Little Word from the Owners…

“My parents moved into Victoria Cottage in 1965 and they loved the village life of Warkworth. My father loved fishing and sailing which was the main reason why they chose to live next to the river. My mother enjoyed the beautiful countryside and in particular dog walking on the beach.

The cottage, built in 1905, was substantially extended and refurbished in 2009. In the process we discovered the original inglenook fireplace and made it a feature of the living room.

It’s located in a lovely peaceful setting overlooking the River Coquet whilst at the rear Warkworth Castle keeps a watchful eye over the property.

Our children and grandchildren all have wonderful memories of the cottage and its surroundings. After 50 years we’re still drawn to the quaint historical village of Warkworth and the wonderful Northumberland coast and countryside.”
